I bought one of these for myself, and another color for my wife. The fit was a bit snug, due to the elastic in the band, but it adjusts with velcro in the back, so I was able to make it comfortable. You aren't going to set any fashion trends with this hat (my fellow travelers initially made fun of me at first), but after a few days in the desert sun (we were traveling in the Middle East) the comments changed to "That's just the kind of hat I need. I wish I had one." I wore it every day, and put it in the washer when I got back. If there are more trips to sunny climes, the hat goes with me.

I love this hat. It's light weight and I can either wear the sides pulled back for partial coverage or in the front for full coverage. The sides are easy to remove to wear the cap alone. I walk a lot and like to keep the sun off my head, face and neck. The brim is extended enough to provide good eye shade.

I work as a gardener and was looking for a hat that would not blow off in the wind, would not get knocked off by branches, and would not fall off when I leaned forward. Most importantly, I needed sun protection for my head and neck. This one fits all those needs, and is light weight and well ventilated. The black underside of the bill minimizes glare, and there is a sweatband. Plus it's SPF 30, adding to the sun protection I need.

I purchased this cap to keep the sun off my head. Not only does it keep the sun off my head but it keeps the sun off my neck. The material the cap is made from is awesome. It is cool to your head and lightweight. As always thank you, Zappos, for the fast shipping and great customer service.

Just got back from a 5-day backpacking trip in the sunny central Sierra Nevada with this hat, and it worked great! I loved not having to pile sunscreen on my neck and ears - just a dollop on my nose and cheeks and I was ready to go. The hat seemed to help keep mosquitoes away too. I chose this particular hat because it looks slightly better than others in this category, and I wasn't disappointed - although we both looked a bit crazy in our sun hats, I did indeed look (a bit) more stylish on the trail than my hiking partner.

This hat is fantastic. I live in the Bahamas and do a lot of boating. I bought four (one for everyone in the family). It is comfortable and adjustable. The coverage is great and the brim isn't too long so you can see clearly. It stays on in the wind so I can use it when the boat in under way. I'm ordering a couple more just in case.

My husband does a lot of landscape work and as a result has a lot of sun damage on his skin. I finally got him this hat and he's really happy with it. Great product! Machine washable and it looks like it will stand up to the kind of beating he will no doubt give it.

Love Outdoor Research products...part of hat was lost so the hat was "unusable" according to my husband. This was my husband's favorite hat so we ended up finding it here and gave it to him for Father's Day. He was so happy to get his favorite hat back.

Bought this for a 2 week trip to the Virgin Islands this past spring and for kayak trips under the summer sun. Haven't used it yet for kayak trips but I expect it to perform as well as it did hiking in the hot sun of the Caribbean. Often I used just the hat with the sun shade in my pocket. The sun shade packs down super small so I had no problem bringing it along even if I wasn't sure I would use it. On really sunny days I attached it quick and easy-like to the hat and protected my ears and neck from the pounding sun. The hat is nice and breathable and even somewhat stylish!

I used this sun hat for marathon. My face is safe from sun burn (I put a lot of sun block on, too). This is the most excellent hat ever! It covers the back of my neck area. It also covers the side of your face. The string in the front is adjustable which is my favorite feature plus is good for running as it will not fall off. I have the white color which does not trap the heat. All in all the hat has everything that I need to save me from my marathon. I truly recommend this to buy!

I am a self-professed gear freak. I own every commercially available brand of high-end outdoor gear, (except Mammut, and I'm still shopping for the perfect Mammut piece), and I have a lot of great kit. And I use it all. But I can say unequivocally, that this OR hat is the most versatile piece of gear I own. Rain or shine, hot or cold, with or without the Pharaoh neck attachment, it is literally the only piece of gear I own, that I use every single day. And I have done this for 5 years without the slightest problem. This is more than just a hat. It is protection for the part of my body that is exposed more than any other - my face. It works.

I recently spent considerable money on cosmetic procedures to remove sun spots and even out skin tone. I was looking for a hat that covered ears, cheeks and neck and did not blow off on breezy days. The toggle in front holds it in place and still allows for good peripheral vision. It comes in different sizes, yes!, I needed a large to be comfortable and I can put my pony tail through the back! I will use it for gardening, dog walking and any activity outside. Thank you Zappos for your great selection and service.

I bought this in the hope that I would be able to wear it instead of putting sunscreen on my face and neck, and I was not disappointed, which is good -- I have been burned (literally) in the past with other hats. It's also somewhat more compact and arguably packable than my other sun hats -- the visor is curved, and I've been packing it next to other soft things so it can stay curved rather than trying to squash it flat (though maybe flattening would be fine?), but the rest of the hat is soft and the visor is much smaller than the brims on wide-brim sunhats, which makes it easier to manage. It's not especially stylish I guess -- maybe if one took off the head towel thing, but it looks like it would take more than 10 seconds to take it off or put it back on, so I haven't been experimenting with that. It can be a bit warm, but that can be an advantage. No trouble in moderate wind so far. Adjustable fit (via velcro) is handy -- I have a big head, XL is working for me without adjustment but nice to know I can loosen it further if needed.

I'd been looking for a replacement for the Rhat Hat I used to have. this one doesn't have the aluminum foil sun reflector, but it's pretty good!

I am a safety official (corner worker/flagger) for motorsports. I bought this hat because I stand in the sun all day. It works excellent for keeping the sun off your neck (front & back), ears and cheek area. Its light-weight, easy to wash, and looks good. I have worn it in the sun for about 50 hours so far with no problems. I recommend this product.

A hat for people with big heads! Fairly comfortable, but you'll look awkward with the skirt on. I prefer it just as a ball cap, but the mesh panels don't provide too much sun protection (although they are very breathable). The bill isn't too shape-able, but it gives a little (which helps if hats tend to dig into your temples, like me). Very light. Overall another outstanding piece of gear from Outdoor Research.

It is the best beach running or walking hat ever with the neck cape being able to be worn several ways, or not at all. It is easy to install or de-install the cape and this hat looks very cool in a funtional way. So many people want to know where I got it. It is, also my favorie golf hat, with and without using the neck protecting sun cape. Can't say enough about this hat. I am ordering another .

I wore this hat for my 100 miler in Plain, WA. The temperatures got up to 100 -running a 100 milers on dusty trails in some times direct sun, is tough. This hat was a lifesaver.

I bought this hat to replace the Nike Runner hat I'd washed and accidentally shrunk in the clothes drier. I wear the Sun Runner hat for trail runs, half-marathan training, backpacking, and spring backcountry ski touring. I've realized I only need one hat with all the features this cap comes with.

I have owned two of these hats. After the first one wore down, I immediately bought another. The hat is cool in the summer and surprising warm in the winter down to about 25F. If I am outside, I wear the hat. I use it for running, climbing, skiing, hiking...you name it. The hat is extremely light and folds up nicely, which is a plus if you are climbing. I travel extensively and found that it makes the perfect traveling companion on flights, because I can fold it up and put it in my carry-on or even back pocket. The only problem I have had with the hat is durability. Both of the hats separated where the bill meets the hat. Although, I think the damage is more a function of me folding the bill into the hat when storing it.

I wear this hat when I'm running. I'm bald/shaven and this hat is very comfortable. I'd not worn hats before and always had to take my shirt off to wipe sweat from my eyes. This cap prevents sweat from rolling in my eyes and in colder weather helps keep my head insulated. I throw it in the laundry with my running gear in normal wash cycles and it does great.

Another piece of OR gear I tried for the first time this summer when climbing Mt Rainier. For someone who can't hike in most hats because his head gets way too warm this is perfect. Carrying 75+ lbs up from Paradise to Camp Muir this hat (and attachable neck covering) kept me cool and the same pasty white complexion I prefer. In the higher altitudes it fit perfectly under my helmet giving me sun protection while remaining breathable. When sun reflecting off snow is not a concern remove the neck covering and you have a very breathable hat good for all sorts of activities from walking around town to hiking Mailbox Peak. This hat is part of my essentials kit every time I head out to the mountains.

I trekked across Costa Rica with this hat and it protected my neck and (bald) head really well. The only complaint is that the bill is shorter than most conventional caps. As a consequence, I did get some burn on the tip of my nose.
