I own the XA Pro 3D Ultra, low and mid. These GTX's are the best pair to boot. No pun intended. Fit like a glove right out of the box. I like these laces a lot more than the quick ones. My grandmother wore combat boots to bed. Now, she wears these.

Best hiking shoes ever! Did Annapurna base camp with it. Really comfy. The shoe feels as if you are walking in cushion.

Since this was my first pair of Salomon boots, I was not completely sure what to expect. I had heard rave reviews from everyone I talked to about these boots. I must say they have lived up to the hype so far. These boots needed very little break in time, and they now feel like boots I've been wearing for years. I did have a slight pain in my right foot the first time I wore them, but after hiking for a few miles the pain ceased, and I have not had the problem again. I cannot comment on the durability as I have only had them for a month or so, but so far they are a great pair of boots that I would recommend to anyone looking for a good, lightweight backpacking boot.

These are not a hiking boots, but amazing backpacking shoes. The weight X support factor is superb. The size was good for my wide feet, too. There was not enough sole for heavy loads but they are great for the most brutal day use. In six months I have put 100 hours on mine, mostly over lava caps on steep rugged trails in Northern California, and the construction has endured beautifully. The few time I trekked through mud and snow they stayed dry inside. These should be perfect for winter use. I was a little concerned that they could be hot in the summer in California, as they are fairly well insulated and sealed tightly, but that never became and issue. These are super shoes.

These are true trail-running boots. They are super light, waterproof, and provide excellent ankle and arch support. I am 55 and I run in the mountains over rocky, root tangled trails. These are amazing pieces of equipment. I am not a rich guy and these are worth every penny. Salomon and Zappos an unbeatable combination.

Zappos is very easy to do business with. They have a very easy return policy. Customer service was excellent (the 2 times I used them in the past). Also, I am an active ultra marathoner and these are the most stable and comfortable trail shoes I have ever owned. They are obviously pricey but until someone makes a less expensive Gortex trail shoe of this level quality I will be purchasing them again, and of course I will purchase them from Zappos.

I'm a backpacking guide all over California's national parks and have been hiking since I was seven, I've worn almost every type and make of boot. I bought this boot last year. I took the boot straight out of the box and did The John Muir Trail (JMT). The first mile, my heel started to ache a little. After that mile the boot was broken in, with no heel pain or blisters. After 218 miles straight and 16 days in the boot, I'll never wear another boot! From pouring rain to snow, this boot handled everything I put it through and more. When wet, the boot dries fast and easy, doing it's job by wicking away moisture. I've used Keen, Merrell, Asolo (worst boot I've owned), North Face...etc.,you name it I've had it on my feet! Ankle support, arch support is perfect! I've had these boots on while carrying a 60lb pack to a 5pm day pack and they performed how a well built boot should! Wearing a pair of boots for a couple hours around the house, does not break a boot in! You must take a boot on trail to break it in properly!

I love these shoes. I guess I could call them hiking boots as this is what I purchased them to replace; however, these are so amazingly light that I really feel like I'm wearing running shoes. In fact, during my first hike I felt like a kid who'd just got a new pair of shoes and had an extra spring in his step. I haven't put too many miles on them yet to see any problems. But they seem warm enough for some light snow we've had, and yet they breathe really well that I'm assuming they'll do well on hot summer days as well (that's what I've also read from other reviews). At first glance I was a bit worried about the durability of the shoe fabrics/materials in comparison to tough leather I've had on other hiking boots. However, they seem to be pretty tough so far. The only minor irritant I've noticed is a slight rubbing up high on my ankle where the top of the boot hits my leg. I'm not sure if this is a break-in thing or not. It's not really bad, just something I've noticed a bit. Sizing: I normally where a size 13 shoe, although if I could find more shoes/boots in 12.5 I'd get them. However, the Salomon's seem to run longer (not wide) and I'm wearing a size 12 and it fits like a glove. Overall, great pair of shoes, solid price and excellent service from Zappos.

The boots were very comfortable out of the box and required little break in. I was skeptical about hiking in warm weather with these boots, but had no issues in temperatures up to 75 degrees. The soles are very flexible (adding to comfort), but don't offer much protection from sharp rocks. The toe cap stitching is very weak however. I took the boots hiking in the Nevada and the toe cap began separating on both boots. They did not let sand or dirt in, but dirt became lodged in the toe cap and caused pressure points. Zappos, as usual, was very helpful and over-nighted me a new pair. I still recommend Salomon and think my boots were an isolated incident because 3 other people with me had Salomon (not the same boot) and had no issues.

Great for men and women. I love the fact that these are so light-weight compared to other hiking boots I have worn. They are very comfortable. They keep your feet just the right temperature as they breathe very well. I felt they run about a half size larger than marked.

Very comfortable, but soles separated in less than 4 months of light wear. Tongues do not fit close enough to the ankle allowing rocks to get under during normal walking on dirt trails. Returned to Zappos and got a pair of Lowa Renegade.

Purchased these boots about 2 weeks ago, and I am sad to say they are going back today. I have never owned a pair of boot/shoes that get more uncomfortable as you ware them. Right out of the box, they were great! And I have worn them around the house to try and get used to them, and sadly, the more I ware them, the worse they get. Even after only a couple hours around the house yesterday, I couldn't wait to get them off my feet! They started rubbing on the ball of my left foot causing a blister due to lack of padding, and I could feel all the pulling in the shoe from the zig/zag stitching across the shoe. I also had awful back pain because they weren't very supportive. One bonus...they were extremely light, however I think Salomon sacrificed too much comfort and support to achieve that. Another downfall in this shoe, is the fabric it is made out of. The gray material on the toe of the shoe is so loud! Every time you take a step the fabric is so firm it makes a popping noise. I kept them in hopes that the sounds would fade as I broke them in...but no luck. Every step was followed by a 'pop'. Not the sound I want to hear as I am hiking. For the price, I expected so much more.

I was deployed overseas when I ordered these and they arrived faster than expected from Zappos. The Salomon boots are amazingly light, don't need to be broken in and they feel great on my feet despite the rough terrain of Afghanistan.

The boot is very light weight and almost like wearing a trail runner. I had to purchase a gel heel insert because after a few hikes the bottom of my heels would hurt. The heel seems to be very hard with not much comfort. The gel insert is a pain to deal with but have yet to find the right insole insert combo to make this boot perfect.
