This is my 4th pair of Frye boots. I just can't find another make that is comparable in quality. I have had great wear out of mine, but my daughter thinks their soles wear out quickly for the price. I am not hard on shoes so I can't agree with her. I wasn't sure which black to order so I called. It was explained to me that Black Soft Vintage is one solid color where as the Black Vintage is a bit worn looking and the Black rub off, even more so. I went with Black Soft Vintage. I had passed on these last year at Nordstroms and always regretted it. I only allowed myself one pair and the Jane cuff were it (another beauty). I had sleepless nights since (only partially kidding) so I went for them before they get sold out. I am a true 7 1/2 and that is what I ordered. I had no problem getting my foot in. They were a tad big with knee high stockings so I put socks on and they fit perfectly. Very comfortable. Any smaller, they would squeeze my toes. I have one foot slightly wider than the other, therefore I need to always take that into account. I do have to say that I did order these last year in tan and I wasn't as impressed with the quality . The leather was a bit cardboard like. (therefore went with the Jane cuff in tan instead). The leather on the soft black vintage is beautiful. I also found that the 7 1/2 in tan were so much smaller. I couldn't get my foot in whereas in the black, my foot goes right in. Perhaps there is a discrepancy between colors and size. Not sure. I love these and happy I decided to finally splurge. Frye boots are a bit addicting.

Being 5 feet tall/size 6 and also a runner, finding boots that fit over my calves can be a bit of a challenge. These boots were very snug when I first put them on- almost thought I would not be able to get it over my right calf. I wore them 3 days in a row to see if they would stretch out at all and they definitely did. They fit perfectly over skinny jeans, maybe still a bit snug over cords, but are otherwise fine. I got the chocolate vintage leather which is amazing in person- they are quite unlike anything else. I would say do not be afraid of the calf size if you have muscular calves- just were them a few times for the best results.

I loved these boots on screen but in real life they're so much better! The smell, the feel of the leather, the craftsmanship are all perfect but then again that's just Frye. I have the Jane stitch in redwood and I love them now as much as I did when I got them 4 years ago. Here are a few things I've found with these boots now that I have them in hand: 1. The black soft vintage looks really vintagy and actually borderline black/gray. I love it. Though if you're looking for something a little dressier, this color may not be it. I think the black vintage is a truer black from what I've heard. 2. No matter the boot or brand, I always have issues fitting my thick calves into boots. Most boots I can't even get half way up my calf. These are a 15" circumference (not all 15" are equal I've learned) but they actually fit over my bare leg! I was floored. The reason I will only buy Fryes now is because the cobbler can stretch them out because the quality of the leather can hold up to it. I had this done to my Jane stitches and you would never know it and I can fit jeans into them now. I'm wearing the Melissa buttons today with just stockings and it looks like they were made for my leg. I'll get them stretched anyway so I can wear them with jeans. 3. They need breaking in. It's not too bad (today is the first day I'm wearing them) but they're rubbing against the back of my heels a bit (toward the top). 4. They are very true to size. The toe box for me is just enough to wiggle my toes but if you have wide feet you may run into some issues (that the cobbler may be able to help you with). If you want to wear thicker socks you may want to go a half size up. If you're not sure, get them anyway because Zappos has the best customer service ever. You can return them and get a different size. In summary, if you're on the fence about these, don't be. The boots are everything you ever wanted in a pair of boots and more and will last you forever. My Jane Stitches look brand new and I abuse them and wear them daily. In 4 years, I've replaced the sole 1 time but the leather and inside of the boots is perfect. I highly recommend these boots and Frye in general.

These are great boots, comfortable right out of the box, and true to size. The natural color is beautiful and I don't see myself on every corner, unique and stylish. The shaft is on the narrow side--still not slim enough for me with my skinny legs, but not gaping either. Great with a leg warmer peeking out the top.

Wonderful boots, excellent craftsmanship, and a two year warranty. After wearing them for two years of pretty tough wear, I had a problem with the right boot, contacted Frye and they replaced them for free. It's rare to find that kind of customer service today!

I hardly need to add to the tons of rave reviews about the style of the Melissa Button Boots, but I do want to describe the color I chose: the chocolate vintage. It is very different. It is a medium brown without and red tones. It is extremely distressed does have traces of some shine. It is as though the boots had originally been a high gloss boot that you had worn every day out in the desert for about 10 years. The effect is hard to describe and more understated than you might expect: they invite you to look twice and check them out. This leather makes a tremendous impact without (in my opinion) looking tacky. If you like distressed, worn in boots the chocolate vintage may really call out to you. (Frye has so many different leathers that look similar on the screen but very different in real life, especially in black. It is very helpful to me when people write which particular leather they are describing.) I found the boots true to size and very comfortable. I run daily and so have muscular calves and have no trouble wearing them over my skinny jeans.

Here is my review after wearing these boots for one month Design: I got the brown antique soft full grain boots and they looked just like the picture. Deep brown with a slight reddish tone. The side buttons and the top dips create a great silhouette from the front and back. I love the little bit of slouch at the ankle. While they are a western boot, they can be dressed up easily, and I wear them to my business casual (emphasis on the casual) workplace. Wear and Tear: I was disappointed that my boots have 2 spots where the stitching would probably come out a bit if I fiddled with it. I didn't notice this until I had worn them for a few days. It is a minor problem, but I was expecting perfect stitching for the price of the boot. I've gotten a few scuffs on the inside/front of each boot from the hard sole of the other boot grazing it, but it doesn't look out of place because of the other natural aberrations in the antiqued leather. The only traction is on the heel, but I haven't had any slips. The inner sole in one boot had an annoying bump near the ball of my foot at first, but that went away after a couple wears. Apart from that there was no real break-in period. No blisters! These boots are very comfortable and very warm! Sizing: In other shoes I am a 6 1/2; wide, or a regular 7. I ordered a 6 1/2; to start and tried on the boot with a sneaker sock. My foot made it in with a little effort (standing up, and with the help of the side tabs), but I didn't have any wiggle room. A friend of mine has had these boots for 2 years and said that my heel should be able to move up just a little with each step. I reordered the boot in a size 7 and they fit perfectly! There is a little extra room in the toe of the foot , but it does not look or feel strange. The boots fit nicely over my average-sized calves with leggings, tights, or skinny jeans.

I looked everywhere for these boots and no one had my size except Zappos. Everyone, and I mean everyone asks me about my cool new boots. I am over 50 and worried that they would look to youthful, not so although I do feel a little younger whenever I wear them. They go with everything. Thanks Zappos!

These are beautiful boots! They're not as stiff as I expected compared to the ones I had in the late 1960's. I have had foot-morph over the years, and sometimes I wear a 9 and other times a 9.5. Since Zappos has such a fabulous return policy, I ordered both sizes and decided on the 9. They were a tad tight in the toes, so I wore them around with thicker socks for 2 days, and now it is perfection! I normally don't spend this kind of money on shoes/boots, but they were just what I was looking for, and hopefully they will last me many years.

I love these boots! I am a true 7-1/2, and that size fits me perfectly (not too tight, some space, but not too loose) with a good sock, which is how I like to wear boots to avoid blisters. So far, I have bought Chocolate Vintage Leather, which is quite beat-up looking, but I love it, and Fawn Vintage Leather, which is a soft smooth brown/green leather, absolutely gorgeous. I am 5'5" and have skinny legs, and the shaft is perfect over skinny leans and leggings. The boots are comfortable right out of the box but get better every time I wear them. I am 59 and I don't feel like an idiot wearing these boots. The only problem is that I want at least 3 other colors. Highly addictive! An easy solution to the slippery bottom issue noted by others is to have a shoemaker add a rubber sole, which also preserves the life of the boots. It costs about $30, but I do that with all of my high end boots and shoes and it is cost effective. I have 30 year old shoes and boots that still don't need new soles.

I just received my boots in the dark brown brush off leather. Let me say, they are amazing. I am a very picky person who finds fault in almost everything. Not these. They were beautiful and it is the type of brown that will go with everything! Also, I have one foot a 6 and the other 6 1/2, and normally I get a 6 1/2 in most boots. I got the 6 and they fit great! It really is true that these boots run a 1/2 size small! Get them, you will not regret it, trust me!

These just came and already am I in love with them. I was a little skeptical because the "Jane" Frye boots literally swallowed my legs (I have small calves), but these are perfect! Definitely order a size down...even if you don't think you need to. I'm a size 8 in every pair of shoes on the planet but took a leap of faith and ordered a 7.5 in these and they fit perfectly. Plus, leather stretches. That said, they are almost impossible to get on at first. But worth it once you cram your foot in. Don't give up! They are so cute and the high quality is apparent. Buy these -- they will last you a lifetime!

Let me just say I heard angels singing when I opened the box. The smell of the leather and the awesomeness of the boot had me from hello! I am a size 6 1/2, and that's what I ordered. They fit perfectly. They are frickin' gorgeous and so comfortable. I almost slept in them. Totally getting another color. Thank you Zappos for partnering up with Frye and always providing outstanding customer service!

I have literally been searching for the perfect pair of black boots that would be stylish, comfortable, well-made and versatile for over 1 1/2 yrs. I have ordered and returned numerous pairs of boots to Zappos (thank you Zappos for making the exchange process quick & painless) I received these boots 2 days after I placed my order and I am ecstatic with my purchase! They fit perfectly and looks amazing! They even make my feet look narrow. I wear a size 7 1/2 but ordered a 7 since my daughter convinced me that Frye boots run 1/2 size too big and she was right. These boots feel like I have had them for a month without having to "break them in" and get the temporary blisters I have read about. I am 5' 4" and 124 lbs and have high arches and average sized width. It is extremely difficult for me to find boots that are complimentary since I also have 13 1/2" calves. The description of these boots says it is 15" circumference which was of a concern to me but I ordered them any way after watching the video because it appeared as though the woman modeling them had very skinny calves too and am glad I did. Due to the style, stiffer leather and shape of these boots it doesn't make my legs look twigs in a boot. My only complaint is that they are EXCEEDINGLY SLIPPERY and it is too bad Frye is not making all of their footwear skid-proof especially when one considers the amount of money spent on their boots. However; I am totally sold on this boots and will purchase them in other colors too (I got them in the Black Brush off and it is a solid black indeed-just what I wanted). Take my advise and treat yourself to a pair of Fryes and it'll be one of the best decisions you'll ever make-after all, you are worth it!

These are my favorite boots ever! I love the look and the color (grey antique soft grain). The color is like a muddy grey and green color. They can replace your black and brown boots. I get compliments every time I wear them. It's a classic clean boot. I'm planning to purchase the shorter version soon. The first time I wore them they weren't so comfortable, after the first day they became my favorite.

My new boots arrived today, and I love them! They fit true to size, and the Saddle Vintage color is beautiful. Word of warning though...they arrived with a white waxy film all over them. A call to the Frye Boot Co. revealed that this is called "bloom" and is the leather releasing the oils. It can be buffed off with a soft dry washcloth. These boots are pricey, but I know I'll wear them for a long, long time.

I absolutely love these boots! They really do fit true to size, and at first I felt that they were a little roomy, but in no time the shoes molded to my feet and they fit me perfectly. The leather is very soft and feels sturdy. It is thick and very well made. The color is the most beautiful rich color, I honestly get compliments every time I wear them. They are extremely comfortable and after only a few wears, they were broken in. I honestly did not want to take them off they were so comfortable. I would highly recommend them! They will forever be classic boots that will not go out of style like so many trends do. They will stand the test of time! I have read other reviews and they are not hard to pull off and on (they do have pull tabs if you need to use them), the soles of the shoes are slick, but wearing them once or twice took care of that and they are not slippery like some people have stated. There really is nothing negative or bad that I can say about these boots. They are worth every penny! I actually bought a second pair in black and I could not be happier. One last thing is that my good friend has the exact same pair that she got almost a year ago and hers look almost identical to mine, meaning that the color has not faded, the leather has stayed just as beautiful and soft, and the boots can keep up with life. There is no need to be careful with them or protect them as they were made for wearing!

I absolutely love these boots. I have fairly small legs/calves, so finding the perfect boot to fit can be a challenge. Now, I have to be honest, they are not the easiest boots to take off. The fit is snug. Well worth every penny spent!

These are beautiful, classic, timeless boots. The color is very versatile and goes great with any color. I have never had a problem with boots fitting around my calf, but I found these to be a bit snug - especially when wearing them with jeans tucked in. So when I took the boots to my local shoe repair to have rubber soles put on the bottom (a must-do to preserve these boots), I also had them stretch the openings. The stretching was just enough to make these fit perfectly. I was so relieved that this fix worked! So be warned, they might be a bit snug in the calf, even for those of you who don't usually notice that. Oh, and I'm a true 10.5, but the size 10 fits perfectly. I find this to be the case with Frye boots - they are sized a 1/2 size down.

I own 3 pairs of Frye boots, and I have to say the Melissa Button style is my favorite. I might sound exaggerating, but this is really the only pair of boots I wear and will repurchase. I am a pretty rational down to earth girl: I care about beauty, comfort level and budget all at the same time. This pair of boots has a classic style. It will make your outfits look so much better when you have one of those lazy days. It will also enhance even more of your perfect dress-up outfits. The boots might look plain at first, but once you put them on they look so much nicer! I caught myself all the time looking into mirrors and reflections when I am wearing this pair of boots. The more you look at them, the more fall in love you will be! The fit/make: The good reviews on this pair of boots will give you high expectations, but remember it is made out of leather and breaking in will take time. I have shoe size 6-6.5. I ordered 6.5 and I have quiet a bit of room for my toes to wiggle around. I would consider my legs normal sized, but one of my friends did call them skinny. I have no trouble getting in and out of the boots. The first few times are hard, but once you break them in it is so easy. Since they are leather, I was expecting a longer break in time too. However, it only took me about a week and 2 minor blisters. The boots might feel heavy on first, but it is leather, with insole cushion and thick outsole bottom. Those combined make the boots durable, flexible, and comfortable to the point that my feet are spoiled! I can walk all day in this pair of boots without any discomfort. My feet hurts now when I am wearing my lower budget boots. Once I wore the cheap pair of boots running errands my feet hurt so bad that I got into "I hate the world mode" (not the best day for my boyfriend). The leather lining keeps my legs and feet warm too, especially to those cold-feet girls, look no further! I have the dark brown color, if I have the money to purchase another pair, I would choose black. I think more of the stable classic style for long-term use. If you are hesitating about the price, trust me this pair of boots worth every single penny you spend! They will last you forever! I am a poor college kid who cares more about budget with comparable comfort level, even if the shoes are cute but I will not buy them if they are uncomfortable. I am abusive to my shoes too, since I am one of those people that consistently rubs the back of the heels and I have to buy a new pair of cheap boots every single year. Think about this calculation: supposedly you like to save money by buying one pair a year, satisfying your need and your shopping/fashion urge as well, in 5 years you have spent more than the price of these boots. All your boots will be worn looking, even worse they could be totally out of style. But one pair of Frye Melissa Button boots in 5 years will be still looking classy, stylistic, polished, and in good condition. It is pretty clear which way is the smart way to spend your money. I am the person that never write reviews. But this pair of boots really has the charm to make me have the urge to write the review. I own my Melissa Button for almost a year now. I know we all have different bodies. If you have this style and you love it, you are a lucky girl. If this pair doesn't fit you well, don't be discouraged. Frye makes good boots with lots of other styles, try others on! (I am working on to break in my Frye Rider Logo boots.) Besides the awesome Zappos return policy will make sure you have the time to find your perfect pair too! Frye is my go-to brand for boots now.

I finally found the perfect boot after a 2 year search for flat, leather riding boots. And it took me 5 months to buy the Melissa Button because the price was so frightening. But this boot is amazing and well worth the "shoe investment". I ordered this originally off of the Nordstrom website in Cognac (because they didn't have that color/size combination on Zappos) in my true size, an 8.5. Three weeks later, it finally arrived, only to be too big. So I returned them and searched the internet for a Melissa Button in Cognac in a size 8 - no such luck. Disappointed, I turned back to Zappos to see what other colors they had in the boot. I ordered the Fawn color on a gamble and I have to say I absolutely love it, even more than the Cognac! My boots arrived just 2 days after I ordered them (and I ordered them on a weekend!). The second I tried them on, my boot search was over and I could finally sleep at night. This boot is very comfortable, stylish and versatile. I wear it with jeans, leggings, shorts, skirts, whatever! I have no trouble getting it on or off, but I do have slim calves and narrow feet. For me, most of the time, boots are too wide in the shaft, but these are just fitted enough. The Fawn color is amazing, kind of a rustic brown that looks great with everything, blacks and browns. I do think they run a half size larger, all of my shoes are 8.5, but in this case the 8 fits perfect. Of course, many thanks to Zappos who has been with me through this boot journey and has accepted all 6 times that I bought and returned boots to them. Zappos service rocks!

I love these boots. I was hesitant to get this color because of other reviews saying they weren't a true black, which may be true if you held up two different black boots next to one another, but they are perfect! They do have a worn-in look, or a wrinkled leather look, but I absolutely love that. Totally worth the money, and they will last a lifetime.

I saw these in cognac at Nordstrom's back in November tried them on and almost walked out with them. But I already have cognac boots. I went home and found them on Zappos and noticed all the other colors they came in. Fell in absolute love with the Fawn. But it was sold out in my size, had to go through hoops to find them in fawn from the Frye company's website. Finally had them ordered only to get a phone call 2 days later saying "out of stock". Two weeks ago I found that there were two left in the fawn/size combination I wanted on Zappos only to find that the site had gotten hacked and was unable to make any purchases. A week later the boot gods finally decided to be kind to me and I snagged a pair. 2.5 months it took for me to get these boots and probably the best shoe decision I've ever made! Thanks Zappos (and Frye)!
