Not fit for military. I am in the military and got these boots about 3 months ago. They seemed to have all the features I was looking for, but I was a little hesitant because of the price. I must say they are very comfortable and easy to put on and take off, but the durability is not, by any means up to par with the likes of Danner and Red Wing boots. The outsole started peeling off within a month of wearing these. I spend most of my time on a ship and was not happy with this purchase. Save your money and invest in a better product.

I purchased this when it was on sale here at Zappos and I am glad I did. These where purchased to be my winter boot for work as I need some thing that looks nice and will be warm. They fit nicely and are warm although it has not gotten cold yet to really try them out.

Got these for my husband. I ordered a 1/2 size larger because of the other customer reviews. He loves them; they fit great and are non slip on just about every type of wet floor.

First time buying with Zappos and I would recommend them to everyone. I ordered my regular size and received them the following day. The boots ran a little small for me. I called and they sent out the next size at no charge. The boots fit great and feel great. Great job Zappos!

An overall impressive boot, you feel like you have a good pair of shoes on. Snug at first, but break in with wear. Very warm.

The boots are well constructed, not heavy, easy to get in\/out of. They are also true to size. If you wear a 9 1\/2 then order that size.

Great boots. I'm on my second pair. They last a long time, stay warm for the winter and cool for the summer. I am an officer in Colorado and have traded in my Danners for these boots. Easy on zipper works well and my feet are very comfortable. I can last on my feet all day on the pavement. I highly reccomend these boots.

I have poor circulation in my feet, this is first pair of patrol boots that have kept me warm all tour. Heavy and very tough to break-in at first.

They seem pretty durable and I expect they will last. So far I've put just over 2 months on them and they are holding up pretty nicely. My only concern is with the tread; because of its fat-spike design, not much tread touches the ground and this increases wear on the parts that do and the design does help with traction in snow and mud, though. Wear is still moderate and I think it will last me at least this year. Something to think about though if you do a lot of concrete walking (this is my only reason for 4/5 instead of 5/5). No qualms with the zipper. It's definitely HD enough. It took me a little bit to find the right "spot" to where I could easily utilize the zipper for taking them on and off. Now that I have, I love these boots. They're warm but not hot. Haven't used in wet weather yet. Great buy.

I am in law enforcement and my husband is in security. We both wear these boots. I'm on my 3rd pair in 6 years and wear them every day. I require a shoe that is supportive, which these boots provide both in the arch and the ankle. The Goretex makes the boots waterproof without sacrificing breathability. And trust me, I've tested it... I have noticed some comments regarding the zipper and being unable to get a foot in without unlacing the boot. My husband and I have never found this to be the case. I re-lace my boots every few days to ensure tightness during movement, but it's not necessary. I can always get my feet in and out using the zipper and have never had a problem with it sticking. I hope if you make this purchase you are as pleased as I have been. The only thing that could make these better is a Vibram outsole. Even so, the tread holds up decently.

I have had three pair of these now and I have no plans to change. They work great with my regular duty uniform and take a good shine, but I work graves, so I really don't care about the shine much! Neither do the drunks I am taking to jail! They also work great with my BDUs. The waterproofing make them perfect for the rain days, and they perform well in foot pursuits!

I ordered these boots and had to send them back because they did not have the composite toe. While other versions of the GX-8 is sold as a composite toe, this version is not. Just reviewing to make sure someone does not make the same mistake I did.

Not for wide feet if your feet swell. Size is true. Not very insulated for Chicago winters. If your feet sweat consider other options. This boot isn't a true winter/cold weather boot. Outside of that it's a great everyday boot for temps above 40 to 70 degrees.

Read and heed the negative reviews! The side zipper is essentially useless, as you will not be able to get your foot in or out without unlacing the boot. The gusset behind the zipper is much to small. Additionally, the first pair I tried had a defect in the gusset that made it near impossible to zip or unzip. It appears to me that Bates is running on reputation, and has let quality slip. Better design and quality control are needed.

Very durable, comfortable, and reasonably-priced boot. Quick to break in. The zipper makes the boot easier to get on and off, but you'll still want to use the laces as well because the padding inside will likely get torn over time otherwise. Also, I don't think the zipper has the strength to overcome lace tension without damage. I need high arch support, and these don't quite qualify by themselves. Fixable with inserts. Only complaint is that the heel box seems atypically deep, which can cause rubbing if I don't wear thick socks and lace tightly.

I bought these boots for my husband. He has no interest in shopping for clothes, and I got tired of seeing him going to work on a snowy day wearing business shoes. It seems these boots are marketed to police officers, and other professionals who spend a great deal of time outside, but they look just fine with my husband's suit, and he can change into his shoes when he gets into the office. The boots are excellent quality. He says they are comfortable and they have decent traction.

Felt a bit tight when my husband first tried them on, which is why I rated them as "feeling narrower than marked". But...after just a few minutes walking in them, they felt so comfortable he knew he'd keep them instantly. DH uses orthotics, so can't comment on arch support. Used primarily for snowshoeing. They're typical GTX near-100% waterproof, lightweight (despite 'heavy,clunky' appearance). DH takes 12Xwide and size was right on. Side zip makes boot feel extra secure, too.

Great boot. I work in the Auto Repair business & they have kept my feet warm & dry this winter. They are a higher boot than I normally wear but I wanted to keep the snow out. They are light & like the side zippers. Still have to untie the top, but makes them easy to put on & take off. I wear a 14 wide & can never find my size in stores. Plan on using Zappos again.
