DMs are always cool.....
I ordered a pair with a wing-tipped design a few years ago, which I always wore, but am thrilled to have the classic oxfords again -- they go with everything! I only wish they came in half sizes. I am a 7.5 but, from experience with DMs, went with an 8 as I'd rather have the shoe be a little big, than mutilate my foot with a 7 waiting for it to stretch and break in. I think something is lost in the quality and it takes away from the authenticity of the shoe. Still, I love how they look and they are totally comfortable, if not a tad big. Definitely recommend them - they are the go-to shoe with jeans, slacks, or skirts.

Good lookin shoe -
I liked the shoe very much in appearance and the size felt good overall. The only problem I have is trying to break in the back of the shoe where the leather comes in contact with the back of the heel or the Achilles tendon. Very painful. Other than that I am very satisfied with the shoe.

Looks great; fits good-
This is my second pair of Doc Martens. They look great and shine to a high luster. I had the contrasting stitching dyed black so they can be worn with a suit. It is taking a bit of time to break them in compared to the last pair.

Classic Shoe -
Classic look for a casual shoe. Love the Air sole but the upper around the heel is unforgiving. They will break in with time as I have owned a number of pairs of Docs. Nice to see they still offer the quality original shoes.

Nnice shoe -
My only regret is that the toe seems to curl up a bit. I need one of those things you put in the toe when not wearing to maintain shape. Top notch service delivered in two days. 2nd pair of Doc's I've ordered from Zappos.

Nice shoes -
Great lookin' shoe, real comfortable, too. Recomend you go order a 1/2 size larger than normal and buy the inserts. -You'll never buy another shoe. Docs are the best!!!

Way too big
I have had this problem with Doc Martens before. When they size the length of the shoe, they size rest of the shoe proportionally. The human foot just does not work this way. I wear a US size 13. In this size the shoe is simply too big around. I have to tighten the laces all the way and even then it is LOOSE.

I bought a pair of 1461's about 3 years ago, and I admit the first couple of weeks were pretty rough, they cut the back of my feet, I was ready to give up on them, people said give them a chance to loosen up and I did, they have been my favorite pair of shoes ever since them, they have been with me through everything, from my last day of highschool, through all the parties, concerts. I even took them with me on my trip to england, I brought my sneaks and my 1461's, I initially slid on my addidas sneaks for, sight seeing but after a while my feet hurt, that night I put on my docs and my feet felt fine again. I am in my sophmore year of college with the same pair of docs and I still wear them all the time. They kind of stink for have had many sockless evenings. But until they are falling off my feat from wear and tear they are not going anywhere.

Unbelievably durable.
My 1461s have been on my feet for most of the past 2.75 years. -Traveled with me through Eastern Europe, Canada, Iceland, the Left Coast ... and never a painful arch or sore toe. My constant companion through multiple body-piercings, drinking spectaculars, and rock concerts, my 1461 are unbelievably durable and obviously well-made.
Buy a pair. You won't need any more shoes. Trust me.

Inner sole broke down in front.
The sole inside the shoe under the toes broke down rather deep into some apparent void, leaving a sharp and very uncomfortable edge, about 5 mm away from the wall. They could not be used after that happened. I had used the shoes for about 2 years. They were far from worn down in any other respect at that time. Before this happened the shoes were great, though.

I love the (OUCH) way they look.
I love these shoes. A classic. But the backs of my heels are raw. I can't believe I saw another review that said the same thing. I haven't tried to soften the back edge where it cuts into my foot for fear of ruining them. Anybody have ideas?....that have worked?

I have worn Dr. Martens since I was in Junior High school in 1994. My pair that I purchased in the early 2000's (1461) finally gave up the ghost earlier this year, so I broke down and bought a new pair. Sad thing is they are definitely different. #1 the soles are hard as hell! No leather padding like before, but a hard "cowboy boot like sole" for the inside of the shoe. It's unbearably hard & it doesn't soften. I called DM about it & they said that's how they are now. Because of that alone I would not buy these shoes again nor recommend them to anyone. I then went & bought DM 5093's & they are fantastic. China pair are now better, in my opinion.

I am hard to fit on shoes--I tried on a pair of docs in a store and the fit nicely. These very cool stylish shoes look neat--however, the leather is so stiff that the top of my heel (where the shoe rubs) really sore!!!--As they say when the supermodels complain about their high heels—that’s what Tylenol is for!

Sorry, Dr. Martens!
I don't know what's wrong with these shoes I bought, but they are extremely tight around the left front area of the left foot. I bought the same size I usually do in these sorts of shoes. Previous experience suggested I buy a slightly smaller size because I would get blisters with larger shoes always rubbing against my heel/ankle. I probably should have exchanged these shoes, but it is too late now! I have many pairs of Docs in various styles, and I must say these are the most uncomfortable ones I've ever owned.

Good-looking shoe, horrible for heels!
This is a very nice-looking shoe and is comfortable from the mid-shoe to the toe. However, the heel rubs against the back of the shoe, and there is no padding to buffer that. I wore the shoe for just a few hours, and my heels hurt so badly, that I had to go home. I buy Doc Martens because they're so comfortable, but I just can't wear these.

not for the wide of foot -
These shoes look great and would be very comfortable; however, I am typically an E and these shoes are killing me. They are very narrow. I am hoping the break in period will do me right. Wide-footers be warned!!!

US size 12 shoes too small for my size US 11 1/2 feet.
I've had 3 pairs of these shoes in size 12 over the last 10 years and never had problems with the fit. I ususally have a little room in these, but this new pair (made in China, no longer in the U.K.) were way too snug. They were a little too short and much too narrow to be comfortable even when unlaced.
I also ordered another style of Docs in the same size and they felt at least a size too big. I guess I'll be buying at brick & mortar shoe stores in the future.
To Zappos credit, they did upgrade me to overnight shipping for free! The ordering process was painless and the service was spectacular, but the shoes are going back.

I didn't actually get the opportunity to enjoy this shoe. Although I ordered the same size of shoe that I already own in a brown version, the black version was too big for me and had to be returned. Due to the fact that this style is not sold in half sizes, I was unable to exchange it, but rather got a refund.

My friend bought these shoes and said I just had to get a pair. Well I did, and Wow do they hurt the back of my heel! If I knew how to soften them up they would probably be my favorite shoes. But alas, I have scars from the one time I wore them and walked around campus! Ouch!

I was looking for a sneaker that I could wear to my Adult Irish Dance Class as well as my Kukuwa Dance class. I found the Nike Musique IV to be perfect for both classes. The sneaker is light weight and gives good support. I have no problem pointing my toes and dancing my heart out in this sneaker. :)Thanks Zappos!

I bought my first pair of 1461s in 1990 and they lasted about six years. My first pair of 8-hole Doc boots held up for almost 15 years. These "vintage" Made In The UK 1461s? 10 months. For starters, the black polish doesn't hold. I can get a pro shine every 10 days and the leather creases will still turn brown. This NEVER used to happen. Cheaper leather? Heavy chemical treatment? Who knows? They also took about a month to break in, which I found odd. But more surprising was the fact that after less than a year of normal, day-to-day wear, the inner edge of the left shoe had a complete blow-out. The sole split (almost a total blow-out along the side, from front to back)), the leather separated... what a load of bollocks. UK-made or not, these are much lower quality than the Docs from the '90s. I'm hoping I just got a bad pair, but I won't be taking this gamble again at $160 a pop. Very, very disappointing.

Bad fit -
Well, I've had Doc's since the 80s. This was my first pair made in Asia and its been a year and they still are nothing like any of the other Doc's I've owned. I'm just about to toss them in the trash. The quality is not the same as it used to be. The shoes are stiff, the soles are terrible. Basically they look like middle age oxfords now. Too bad.

Going to the Beach? Buy some sandals.
The shoe doesn't stay on! There is no Ankle support. I tried to fix it with insoles but didn't help. It's like wearing sandals!
