I've been waiting for this to come back into stock for over two years, in my size and with the correct color combination that I wanted. I originally had to order these directly from the Frye website and ended up with the wrong size (7, which was way too small as the leather will stretch, but not a half size!) and had to pay for shipping back and forth and the tax! I am so happy that Zappos alerted me when they did arrive in stock as even the Frye website is sold out! I ordered a 7½, which is what I normally wear with any shoe. The only time I ever purchase an 8 would be if the shoe is too narrow - which these boots are not, on me. The 7½ fit perfectly. I have heard lots of people say your heel will lift up slightly in the back like a Dansko clog, but I would say that this does not have to be so. My heel does not lift up or rub in the back: it just feels like the shoe fits my foot like a normal shoe or boot would. Sometimes I have a problem with sizing because one foot is larger than the other, but these feel great on both feet! I love the warm chocolate brown color, although I preferred the matte finish as opposed to the more waxed/shined look, since it seems to give off more of a grey/cool hue in person. It is not too snug in the toe or sides either, just a perfect fit! I will not even need to break these in as they feel perfect the way they are now. These are great investment pieces for me! Very cute. Greyish brown color for the storm color. 8.5 fits my 8.5 size foot just perfectly. I do have a slightly narrow, thin (as opposed to thick) foot and with a regular sock my foot does not feel sloppy inside. They are a little 'heavy duty' looking (and I have another pair so similar) so I will return for a different style, but I will get another Frye since these were so comfortable.

I bought these in the dark brown waxed suede and love them. They are my first pair of Frye boots and will definitely not be my last. They were comfortable right away and are incredibly well made. I've been able to wear them with skinny jeans tucked in or boot cut jeans over them. Would look good with skirts, too.

I love these boots! I got them in black, and they look great with jeans and skirts. They fit great and the heel is the perfect height for walking. Unlike my other Frye boots, these needed little to no break in time.

This boot looked great. The toe bed is very stiff. Unsure wether it will soften up, they were not very comfortable. I am returning them. The top of the boot is also wide, needed for pull on. My heel slid up in the right boot only.

These are gorgeous! They're a little narrow, but they will definitely loosen up if you stick with them. The only thing I was disappointed in was the heel is lovely and I want to protect it and not let it get worn down, but the rubbery part that does that has not lasted very long at all. I'm going to take them to my cobbler and have him put something better on so they stay looking great.

I love the look & quality of this boot. I have always wanted a pair of Frye's but haven't found the one that fits my foot. I ordered up 1/2 a size & am waiting for my summer swell to go down before I decide whether to keep. Will also take to the cobbler to see if they can be stretched in the toe box. Great heel height too.

Zappos has superior customer service. I am unfortunately returning these. I'm a size 5.5/6 and I ordered a 6. They were a little roomy in the toe box, but fit everywhere else. They also looked a little more Western than I thought they would. They were comfortable though, and would have been great with skinny jeans.

I second (or third) what others have said about this boot: I wanted to keep it; I kept trying it on and taking it off again. The dark brown leather is very pretty, and the heel height is great. The boot has character but it kept going back in the box because the shaft is so incredibly wide and bulky (even on my wide calves). There was just too much boot on the shaft. A little streamlining would have gone a long way.

These boots are very comfortable, but I don't like the rounded toe on them. I'll be returning them and ordering the Deborah. More money but worth it.

I really wanted to love this boot as it is my 1st "cowboy" boot. The 1st time I wore it my feet were killing me. I thought I should not have worn the for a full day at the office. The 2nd time I wore them my feet started hurting right away & I should have taken them off but wore them for a short time. I had soaked my feet that evening in my foot bath. The 3rd time I went to wear them my feet "screamed" don't do this to us again. I had to return them but will look for another pair of "cowboy boots."

5 years later, and these are still my all time favorite boots. My only complaint is that I wear them so often, they need to be re-soled, so if anyone has recommendations in the MSP area, I’m all ears. I have a very wide foot, and wide calves. Given these boots don’t go far up the calf, they were perfect, but the foot bed and area around the ankle is definitely very narrow. After breaking them in, I was able to wear them with thin socks— while breaking in I could only wear them with knee high hosiery. Even so, I would not hesitate to buy another pair of the Carmen Frye boot.

I bought this booth 3 years ago. It still looks the same. I am 5'2, I would like some heels. This boot just have enough height. It is really comfortable.

After returning the first pair and exchanging for a 1/2 size smaller, I love my new boots! In addition to the first pair feeling slightly large (even though it was my usual size and the size I wear in the Frye Campus boots), I was disappointed to see that the glue used on the sides of the boot to hold the harness to the boot was already coming off and the harness was no longer adhered to the boot...for the price, they should be perfect when they come out of the box! (I noticed that another reviewer mentioned the same issue, so it wasn't just mine apparently.) That said, I got my new pair yesterday and haven't wanted to take them off since. They look great with jeans tucked in, and they do fit under my normal bootcut jeans without the top of the boot showing underneath. All in all, I'm very happy with the new pair and with Zappos for the experience of buying and easily exchanging!

After an exhausting search for replacement boots for my beloved harness mid-calf boots of an unknown brand that I had for 8 years, I finally found these. I was hesitant about the price but knowing the quality of Frye I went with the purchase. I got 8.5 in Sand. Also have large calves (16 in) which make boot shopping hard, already returned 4 pairs this season. Although hard to get on/off, these fit perfectly and feel great once on. True to size, hits below the largest part of the calf. I'm told the on/off will get easier with time. May use the plastic bag trick and/or boot hooks/boot jack in the future. Very happy with the purchase. I also have very high arches which is why they are so hard to get on/off but I felt supported once on.

Not much more I can add on how great these are. If packing light, they're the only pair of shoes I need: just as cute with a dress or throw on with skinnies and a tee. I'll touch on sizing since I didn't see much on that when I ordered... I typically wear 7-8. My other Fryes are 7 and they took a little bit to wear in but fit great now. I got a 7.5 in these because I wanted to wear thicker socks. That being said, I could have gotten away with a 7+thinner socks. Love these.

I'm normally a 6.5 / 7 and I ordered these in 7 - they fit fine and feel comfortable. I haven't worn them for a long period of time yet - the main reason I wanted to write a review is because I am 5'2" and a bit on the curvy side (140 lb), and I have a really hard time finding boots that work with my legs. so far, cowboy boots (ariat) and wedge booties are the only winners - UNTIL I opened this glorious Frye box. They hit me at a great place on my calves, the heel gives a little lift, and they are super versatile. I didn't expect them to look quite so "western" but its a nice update from what I have been wearing for the past 5 years. The leather is thick and sturdy... and they fit nicely over my (muscular) calves AND skinny jeans. I got them in "smoke" and am not completely in love with the color but i think it will grow on me. It has a little more brown in it than I had hoped - there are some gray undertones though. I was torn between smoke and the vintage gray color, but I will stick with what I have. I do feel like it is a color that will go equally well with black, brown, jewel tones, etc. Super expensive but worth it so far - also - super fast FREE shipping. I ordered yesterday, received today. I love these boots. I have other Frye Boots and these are just as nice as the others. Superior quality!

I love these boots!!! I get compliments every time I wear them. They were a little tight the first couple of times I wore them but the leather has stretched out and now these are my go to boots for everything. I have a wide foot which took the boot a little longer to stretch out.

These are the best boots that I have ever owned. I love them. Like actual, real love. The other reviews are not wrong. The shaft is wide, but I have wide calves and I love the look of a little extra room when I wear these with leggings or jeans tucked in. If you are going to wear your jeans untucked, the shaft might be too wide for you. I personally like the short length with pants tucked - they make your legs look longer. They are a great mix of rugged and feminine (the heel is high enough so they do not look too engineer-styley, which is not my favorite look) to provide a nice addition to any outfit. Seriously, any outfit. I sometimes have to tell myself to not wear them again because I have worn them all week. I have owned these for about two years and they have only gotten better. I will probably want to be buried in these boots. Is that weird? I do not even care. You should probably just buy these boots already.

These boots arrived so quickly once I ordered them - the next day in fact! I have worn them several times now and find them to be comfortable even with extended wear. Very happy with this purchase!

These Fryes are everything I had hoped they would be. Cute, really cute! Very comfortable from the moment I put them on. The color (dark brown) appears a bit lighter on the website than they are in person. I was worried about the size (I am between 7.5 and 8) but they are perfect with a single pair of thicker socks in a size 8. This is probably my first of many pairs of Fryes!
