This is my first time writing a review for any product, but I felt I should do so for this one because of the fit. I own several pairs of Frye boots, mules and sandals, and these are the first ones that ever felt tight/small in my size. I am always a size 6, but wish I had ordered a 6 1/2 in this boot because my toes feel very cramped (I do have a wide foot) in this boot. I even had them stretched, but to no avail. It's not just a matter of width, either, it is also the length that is shorter than usual. I should have switched the 6 for 6 1/2. Take my advice if your foot is any wider than a B width and order (at least) a half size larger.

I'll second what most people said in their comments; the Frye Billy Short boots are true to size. I purchased the gray and the color goes with everything: brown, black, beige and colored jeans. I also own a pair of the Frye Carson Shorties in tan. I wanted to provide a comparison between the Billy Short and the Carson Shortie in case anyone is making a decision between the two styles. The Carson Shortie heel is a tad higher, about 1/4 inch (the description says the Carson Shortie heel is 1/2 inch higher than the Frye Billy Short, but holding my pairs together for comparison that is not the case). The Carson Shortie seems dressier to me while the Billy Short provides a more rugged western look. To me the most important comparison is the boot shaft. Though the difference in shaft height between the two styles is almost imperceptible when they are held together in comparison, the Frye Billy Short, because of the deeper "V" cut and the slightly stiffer leather, keeps its "round" and seems to work better with tighter jean bottoms when you want the jeans "over" the boots. The Frye Carson Shortie has a softer and more supple shaft and for me needs a full boot cut jean over them. I also like the way the shaft stands on the Frye Billy Short for bare legs or with a skirt. Since the Frye Carson Short leather is a bit more supple, the shaft has a little more play or "gaping" when walking. All that said, I love both styles and highly recommend both. I only wear Frye and Lucchese western boots; made in the USA and quality can't be beat!

Wah! It's a beautiful shoe but I can't even get the front of my foot inside it. This even after I ordered half a size up. Boo. They're going back.

I am a size 6.5 and that's what I bought. At first I was worried they were too small, but they kinda mold to your feet. Their still a little scrunched on the toes, but ultimately I think they will be perfect. They are gorgeous. I couldn't be happier with the look. My only other piece of advice is don't wear them on an airplane if your feet have a tendency to swell!

Okay, I waited a long time for these black boots to come in my size 8. I own Billy short boots in another color as well as over a dozen pairs of Frye boots. These boots are the most difficult boot to get on; it took help from a shoe hook and a lot of time. Then to get them off...needless, to say another person. Why did I keep them, you ask? Because once they are on, they feel fine and look great as expected. My only hope is that they will stretch with time. I didn't return them as I had already worn them as well. Maybe I got a weird pair, but be forewarned, get the boot, get the look, it's fantastic, but allow a solid 5 minutes extra for dressing if your boot is like mine! Sign me...a crazy fan for Frye boots. By the way: the reason I like these instead of Carson shorties (which I own in black and blue) is that the Billy short stands up and is slightly more pointy, so it goes with different looks like skirts. The Carson is very soft and is just a different style of boot and leather...more dressy, I guess. Billy is rugged and slightly edgy!

I've read all the reviews. Twice. Here's my 2 cents: order up. I'm a size 9 shoe. I have the Fyre Veronica Shortie in a 9.5 and it is a great fit. Ordered the Billy short in a 9.5 and couldn't get my foot in the boot. Returned it. Called Fyre 800 number and the nice woman told me in the Billy to order a full size larger than my regular size. I did and boots arrived today. Slipped the size 10s right on and I am in love with my boots again! Once you've got the correct size these boots are fantastic! Thanks, Frye Co. and thanks Zappos!

Not the easiest boot to get on right out of the gate, but so well worth it. Size up on Billy Short. I'm sometimes a 9.5 in a Frye, and sometimes a 10. I ordered the 10. Massage the boot a bit before you put it on for the first time. Work the leather with your hands a little to warm it up and make it supple. Then point your foot and work the front into the boot. If you use the pull straps (that's what they're there for) to work your foot in, you should have no problem. It may take a few minutes. Remember, you've kind of got to be a cowgirl to get this boot on. And if you do have trouble, here's an old cowgirl trick I'll share with you: Get a plastic baggie. Not a ziplock, but a gallon bag you'd need a twist tie for. Poke a small hole in the bottom of the bag and then put your foot into it. Put your foot with the bag around it into the boot. This will give you enough slip to work your foot into the boot pretty easily. When it's in, pull the bag out (this is where the hole comes in handy so it breaks away and your foot doesn't get stuck in the bag). It may shred, but pull out all the pieces. You may need to do this the first few times until the boot stretches to your foot. And it will stretch. These are fabulous boots and I really love them. Well made, adorable, great with skirts & dresses. Perfect with straight or skinny jeans.

These boots are terrific looking: edgy and authentic, but they run really small. I am a true 9 and I couldn't even begin to get my foot down into this boot - it's because it's a slip-on, without any zipper. It makes it really difficult to get your foot angled into it correctly. I just ordered it again in a size up, I know I'm going to love them and wear them, they're great!

Love these boots! I had to go up a full size due to the point and the slim shaft of the boot. Super hot little boot looks great with just about anything from jeans to dresses.

Whoa! Order at least a 1/2 size up for sure. I am not even sure if these are the right length because I can't get my foot in them at all. The look great, though, so I am ordering a 1/2 size up on an exchange. Hope they work out.

These run incredibly small. I ordered a 6.5 and it was at least one whole size too small. They were out of that size, alas. Always a risk to buy boots before trying them on.

I was so looking forward to these boots! I could smell the leather even before I took them from the box. I typically wear a 9.5 in ordinary flats and other casual shoes and a 9.5 sometimes 10 in running shoes. I ordered these in a 9.5. I seriously feel like I am wearing a 10.5. I don't know if it is the nature of a craft boot but I am considering shipping them back for both a 9 and an 8.5. I was so surprised to hear that other reviewers sized a half a size up. I can push my toes all the way up to the front of the boot and reach my entire hand down the shaft of the boot behind my heel!! That's a HUGE 9.5. I hope I can find a size that will work because I can tell they are going to be quite the comfy boot. With that said I always order from Zappos because of the no hassle exchanges and returns.

What’s happening?! This boot fits like no other Frye! I have always and continue to wear a size 9 in Frye boots, but these? Ridiculous! I hate myself for not returning. They sit in my closet unworn. Ugh.

So - my peloton workouts are amazing, but now my calves don't fit in my tall boots - even the wide calf versions! These were my compromise - I can't not wear Frye's! These give me all the same outfit vibes and have such a cool factor. They truly can be dressed up or down, they are crazy comfortable and are legit cowboy boots. ;) I'm in love. Got my regular size - tight to pull on at first, broken in no time at all.

I have a pair of distressed harness boots from a while ago. I admit I was looking spend more money but live Frye brand boots since the 80's. I have thick calves so the short Billy's were the best option. Then I wasn't sure which color. My hubby suggested black ones. And I am glad I did. I LOVE them. I recently purchased a black Levi's trucker jacket. I think these will pair nicely with it.

I have a difficult left foot due to multiple surgeries, so buying shoes is always challenging (Zappos has changed my life in that regard - very grateful!). I have several pairs of Fryes going back many many years, and am pretty reliably a straight up size 6; however, I took the comments of several reviewers into consideration before deciding to go with my usual size on the first try with these boots. Glad I did - they were surprisingly easy to get on, even on the left foot. I could tell immediately that a little shoe grease would soften them up a bit more, and indeed that worked. They are quite comfortable now after minimal break-in and 2 rounds of Danner boot conditioner, and the blackberry color is absolutely gorgeous! The leather sole is slippery but I'm sure that will improve with outdoor wear, and they will be awesome for dancing. Can't wait for the relentless downpours to abate so I can properly introduce these beauties into my world.

I BOUGHT THESE IN A 11M BLACKBERRY AND ARE THEY BEAUTIFUL! I DIDN'T WANT ANOTHER SOLID BLACK BOOT SO THE BLACKBERRY WAS CALLING MY NAME. EASY TO PULL ON A LITTLE HARDER TO GET OFF. THE HEEL IS LOWER THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS BUT THAT'S OK WITH ME. I HAVE A VERY HIGH INSTEP WITH THORN LIGAMENTS IN THE ANKLE AREA AND THESE WERE EASY TO PULL ON. MY TALL BOOTS ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET ON ANYMORE SO THESE ARE A BREEZE. THE PURPLE IS NOT BRIGHT BUT A NICE IRIDESCENT PURPLE. WIDTH OF BOOT IS PERFECT AND SHAPED TO A WOMAN'S FOOT. NOT TO POINTY OF A TOE THEY ACTUALLY MAKE MY 11M LOOK SHORTER. THESE WERE COMFORTABLE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX FOR ME. GREAT QUALITY LEATHER AND THEY SMELL GOOD TOO.

Comfortable walking heel. I normally wear a size 7 but got a 7 1/2 as there is no zipper on these and you need the room to get them on. They are well made, classic, a fashion must-have.

These boots are difficult to get on the first few times but they do stretch! Initially I had to struggle, a shoe horn is a must, but again they will stretch out so I would not recommend going up a size.

Another fantastic Frye boot! Very stylish and a bit to break in, but only gets softer as you go. Just get this boot half a size bigger, since it narrows at the toe. Also, Zappos was great enough to ship overnight without extra cost. Thanks Zappos!

I love these boots. They are fine quality and quite comfortable. I am very glad that I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered half a size up. At first these boots are a bit hard to squeeze into, but once they are on they fit great. I have worn them enough now to have worked them in, and they are easier to get on and off now. I highly recommend them, but definitely order half a size up.
