If you are looking to replace the ones that you fell in love with in 1995 - don't. These look similar, but are made in China, not England where they used to be made. They are cheap, flimsy and the leather upper is very thin, I almost thought it was not leather at all. I know it is leather, but you could actually convince me that it isn't, it's that cheap looking and feeling. Also the tongue, where the buckles are threaded, is narrower and it puckers - it's not as nice and flat and wide as it used to be, with the good heavy leather. While they are comfortable, for now, I can tell the inside has cheap lining and not the good leather it used to be, either. I am returning these, the price is a lot to pay. Steer clear.

This is the first pair of Doc I've purchase since around 1996. As we all know, Dr. M has shifted production from England to various countries in Southeast and East Asia since that time. There seem to be mixed reviews about the quality given that change. My two cents about the quality is this: Upon initial inspection and a few wears, these look and feel no different from the made in England Docs of my youth. Plain and simple, I can't tell a difference. Everything is as it should be. Will they hold up as well, I can't say. But they feel and look like they will. From a style perspective, these are classic clunky 90s shoes, exactly like you remember them from your babydoll dress and ripped tights outfit in 1995. They look cuter on the foot than they do in the picture, for those of you that didn't wear these the first time around. From a comfort and fit perspective: I normally wear a 9.5, but often buy a 10 to accomodate thick socks, and just because my feet are a tiny bit wide (but wide enough to necessitate a wide width shoe), so the extra room is helpful. I sized down in these and got the UK 7/US 9. They fit perfectly. If you're between sizes, I would say to size down. Comfort wise, well, they are Docs, so they have a break in period. Not a big deal to me, but to those with more sensitive feet, be forewarned. Even not yet broken in, I find these amazingly comfortable. The air cushioned sole really does make a difference. I wore them for the first time to IKEA this weekend, and for the first time ever, made it out of there without aching feet, so, enough said. My only complaint about these is that the buckles are RIDICULOUSLY difficult to adjust. Like, I literally spent 10 minutes on that. I also felt like I was on the verge of breaking the buckles the entire time. Fortunately, once the buckles are adjusted, you can slip your foot in without undoing them (a shoehorn would be helpful here), so it's ok. If I had to unbuckle these every time I put these on, I wouldn't keep them. Fortunately that is not the case. Overall, very happy with these. I'll enjoy reliving my 90s adolescence through these several times per week.

I had a pair of DM Mary Janes when I was in my 20's and I absolutely loved it for the last 10 years. I wore it to death until I had kids. Then I moved and can't find them anywhere!!! I was absolutely devastated! I remember wearing them with tights and skirts with sweaters during winter. I wore them with colorful socks and jeans on the weekend. I wore them with white socks and long dresses. I wore them everywhere!!!!!!! Now that I'm in my 40's.....I contemplated on getting a pair for the longest time. I didn't know if it would be appropriate for a Mom of two and a Mom with teens! But I thought....you know what? Who cares. I love them. I want them. I am going to get them. I never care what anyone thinks anyway. Now I am mad at myself for not getting them sooner!!! I normally wear a size 8.5 wide and I went with size 8 US and they fit perfectly! I wore them at work and they're soooo comfortable since day 1. I didn't even have to break them in. They are a little hot for summer so I would only wear it during the cooler and cold season. You should be able to wear whatever you want, however you want, no matter how old you are.

I love docs and have owned at least one pair since 1994. Having said that, this is my first pair not made in England. SO FAR they seem comfortable and reasonably well made. Unlike other buyers, I didn’t struggle with the buckles and the tongues don’t dig into my ankles. The leather is stiff so I do expect there to be a break-in period but we’ll see. I’m a women’s US 10 and ordered a women’s US 9 and the fit is perfect. If I remember I’ll post an update after a few wearings.

I wore Docs in the 90s and kept my first pairs for about 10 years. I was excited to return to them as a great option for comfort and style at (in my opinion) a reasonable price point for everyday shoes. They are incredibly comfortable once broken in. They look great with jeans and with dresses/skirts. I am a professor and find them work appropriate and capable of handling everything Boston weather throws at them- snow, rains, cobble stone streets. I wear an 8.5 or sz 39 and the U.K. size 6 felt just right. I wear them with thin wool socks or tights.

I'm a 9.5/10 in shoes. Size 9 fit me perfect. I adore these shoes. You can never go wrong with Mary Janes. I primary bought these for work. I work in a business casual environment. I can’t do regular flats, I need something to arch support, and these are awesome in support. I had a pair of these years ago but were lost in transit when I flew across the country, thus I bought a brand spankin' new pair. :)

My teenage daughter has been faithfully (and quite painfully) breaking these in so that she can wear them on an upcoming trip. Yesterday the buckle snapped in half. The shoes are less than three months old. No idea whether this is repairable but if not, her months of blisters and pain will be in vain. We don't want to start over with a brand new pair.

Great style, should break in beautifully. My older sister had these shoes in the 90s and I have always loved this style. I wanted something to wear in colder weather for work (university administration) that was professional but stylish and fun. I think these will be perfect. Having said that, I 100% believe that it will take at least a week of wearing to break in (I've had them only 4 days). I wore them for a day with two pairs of socks (thin dress socks under big hiking boot socks) and with XL bandaids over my Achilles tendon (only place the shoe rubs). I have been wearing them around the house today with just ankle socks and they are less stiff, but still have a few more days to go! The top back edge of the shoe turns in a little, which is the problem spot, but everyone I have talked to who wear DMs say "be patient, it softens and you'll love the shoe." I tend to have higher tops of my feet, but the "tongue" and top straps don't rub, surprisingly! Toe bed is big enough to wiggle my toes, but not in a clownish way. I prefer good arch support (for instance, Toms kills my feet) and I think these will be fine (but you can always insert orthotics, which I may do as they wear down) I foresee the black leather getting scuffed pretty easily, but I think it will age nicely and I'll take the effort to oil the leather. Size: I kept the UK 6M (8US women's). The 6M works very well for me and, although I was going to say I sometimes wear 7.5US and sometimes 8US...I just checked and all but two of my pairs of shoes are 8 (Bobs and Clark's Wallabees are the exception and, yes, they are tight and I don't wear them often, especially after getting pregnant - oy - in fact, I bought another type of Clark's in size 8 and they're my go-to now). In case you're wondering, the shoe brands I comfortably wear size 8 in are: Clark's (EU 39), Lands End (EU 38.5), Earth Origins, BOC, Croft and Borrow, Dansko (EU 39), Keen (EU 38.5), Adidas, Reiker (EU 39), Birkenstocks (39). Also, for reference, I do have a pair of steel-toed DM boots that are UK 5 (US women's 7) that fit just fine (*shrug*). I know some people have different sizes in different brands, so I hope that helps someone!

The shoes came in the mail and when I went to try them on, there were actual TOE PRINTS on the inside of the footbed and the soles showed clear wear - clearly they were used and then returned. Very poor quality control on the products being sent out by Zappos. When I called to let them know, the person on the phone merely said "sorry".

This is my 2nd pair of these. I had a pair for about six years prior. They do last a while. I realized that I’d been wearing them all wrong, which is why they didn’t feel all the way comfortable. The buckles used to squeeze my high insteps the last time I wore them in. Tights or lighter weight socks are always the way to go with these. They now feel EXACTLY like my 1460 boots, complete with the bouncy footbed.

Me and Dr. Martens are like Charlie Brown practicing football with Lucy. Their stupefying refusal to make half sizes after so many years is their choice, clearly, so I & my 8.5s should just STOP falling in love with and buying their shoes! And yet I continue to hope that maybe, since their sizing is so erratic, someday I’ll fit into a model that’s a little small for a UK 6 or big for a UK5. THIS DELIGHTFUL AND WHIMSICAL MARY JANE IS, UNFORTUNATELY, NOT THAT PAIR. I’d thought that since they’ve updated this model over the years, making the design a bit narrower and lighter, I might stand a chance ordering a 6. But as soon as I pulled them out of the box, I knew they were 1/2 size too big. And I’m a purist when it comes to fit—I don’t want to wear my shoes with an insole and 2 pairs of socks! So, these are going back and I’ve ordered the 5s even though I know full well they’ll be 1/2 size too small and I’ll end up returning again. Moral of story: These run 1/2 size large and half-sizes beware, Dr. Martens doesn’t care about you!

I am so very sad! I ordered these after reading several reviewers' opinions stating that they were a reasonable facsimile of the 1990's version of this shoe though perhaps a little larger/longer. I had such high hopes. These 8065s turned out to be almost impossibly bad. I have my 1990's version of this shoe at hand (and I love them, though they are a bit too short) and the new version fails in every way. The material looks cheap and decidedly unleatherlike. The buckles are nearly impossible to unbuckle and adjust and are set such that no human foot could possibly find its way into the shoe. The insole is weird and removable and unlike any Dr. Martens shoe that I have ever seen. I am so disappointed in these and will turn my money and my efforts into figuring out a way to make my old pair more wearable for my (now 20 years older and slightly larger) feet.

Ok so these are soooo freaking adorable ?. There are just beautiful. The straps are super stiff and really hard to buckle but the shoe it self isn’t . And I’m sure once I’ve worn them a bit the buckle will be easier to use. They are a bit big but nothing I would return them for obvi if u are a half size size down tho :) shipping was so fast !

Beautiful docs but super stiff! These dig into my heels. I’m using coco butter to soften up the leather. I know to only wear docs a few hours to break them in but these are taking longer. Hopefully the coco butter will help.

When I tried these on the first time, I had to unbuckle them completely in order to get them on. Buckling them is difficult because the leather is so stiff. I had to put them on the loosest setting. The tongue was also digging where the top of my foot meets the ankle. That night, I stuffed them tightly with hand towels. I left them that way for two days. Then I wore them to work several days in a row and they were totally comfortable. After one day, I was able to tighten the buckles. I can now get them on without unbuckling them, using a shoehorn and the fit is perfect. No digging at all, either. I thought the break-in period was going to be difficult, but two nights stuffed with towels did the trick. They're adorable and comfortable enough to wear all day. (I always wear them with socks.) I'd be happier if they were made in England, but for the great sale price I paid on Zappos, these cute cherry red Mary Janes are worth the money.

I just acquired a vintage pair of this excellent style. I totally wanted a pair of these in high school in the late 90's, but never could afford them! My shoe size is between 6 1/2 and 7 US. In the 1990's English-made Docs, I always wore a UK5. The pair I just got is the same size, and it's a little too big, while UK4 English-made Docs are definitely too small. In the new Asian-made Docs, of which the pictured shoe is an example, I easily fit into the UK4. So if you're looking to replace your 1990's favorite maryjanes, you should probably go down a size from what you used to wear. Any Dr. Martens shoe is so comfy once broken in, it's worth suffering a bit for a few days!

This is my fourth pair of Docs. I frequently wear a pair of the 1460 MIE boots from the early/mid-nineties that my son outgrew and they are good as new (at 24+ yrs old!) Also have MIE 1461 oxfords from same time period; also still good as new. These MaryJanes are different from my MIE shoes in that they have raw leather edges rather than rolled and sewn (hence the 4-star rating overall); however, they are very good-looking shoes and are extremely comfortable. I bought my regular size (same as my older Docs) and while they feel a bit roomy at the end, I believe that’s mainly because they’re not softened up yet and a smaller size would ultimately be too short. With a pair of medium-weight socks, they fit just about perfect and feel just as good as my older MIE pairs. The buckles weren’t too bad to adjust- a little stiff, but they’ll get easier. I wore them on a shopping trip straight out of the box with no discomfort whatsoever. I am very pleased with my purchase and it has occurred to me as I write this that if these shoes last as long as my other pairs, they will most likely outlive me!

Bought these hoping for a basic pair of everyday black shoes, because I know Docs are meant to last for years. Unfortunately, the leather is so stiff, I can barely wear them for more than an hour at a time without getting blisters. Great looking shoes, but I wish there was a way to break them in without breaking my feet.
