Just an "almost" for me. Didn't fit my big calves! These were still about a half size big in the foot, even with sizing down a half size, but they wouldn't close up over my short stubby legs with big calves. I'm typically a 7-1/2 with 18" calves (ordered the UK5). I really thought these might fit, and while I could zip them up and buckle them, there was still a 1/2 "gap" at the tongue (which is not attached on the left side) at the top two buckles. It's too bad, because they did look pretty cool had I been able to buckle/zip them correctly.

I have a very high instep, a high arch, and higher than average width. US Size 8 (9.25" long). Ankle 9". Calf 14". Heel to bend of knee 16". These boots are super comfy. They felt like slippers with stiff soles. It makes them pleasant feeling, but also not very durable. They are fashion boots, very thin, not structural or functional. This is hard to tell from the picture which indicates that they can stand on their own. They absolutely can't. Try standing your pants up on their own - same results. I was looking for an everyday, multi-functional boot that fit really well and to meet all my needs as I travel abroad. I was surprised at how well they fit my feet, but still didn't fit the bill. 1) Another user mentioned they are a gray color. Since I only saw one review point this out, I thought it was a nice dark charcoal gray, which would have been cool, like the picture. It is NOT dark gray. It is light gray, almost pale blue/green. I would call these boots 30 other colors before I called them black, so I feel mislead; they look black in the photos. 2) They are too big. I have well-defined calves, so I thought all the reviews that said these boots were actually big enough would be a good thing. That was a mistake. Take the 17.5" circumference calf into account. Unless you're very large, these won't work since the material is so supple. They kind of fall down and just don't look right. If they were stiff, I think they would look okay, but, especially in gray, they just look bleh, not nearly as sexy as the picture. 3) I thought I would be able to compensate for the larger calf by using the buckles (I wanted them to make a custom fit, after all). But unless your calf is actually 17.5" (16-19") I would say just skip them. Some people mentioned creating new holes, which I thought I would do, but upon inspection of the boot I realized this wouldn't look right. The tongue is very large and an important part of the boot (very cool), but it is sewn to the outer side of the main shaft. This point is fixed. If you were to try bringing it in for a 14" calf, the shaft would fold over on itself (it looked really bad when I mocked it up). So I considered cutting it down, but the shaft extends onto the instep and there is no good way to taper it down, or trim it down asymetrically (it would be really obvious) or symetrically (it is sewn down on one side). So even if I wanted to have the buckles shortened, recreating the sweet decorative tips, the shaft would look bad tightened. Other details about the boot that were much less important than the above, but I'll mention for your benefit in case you want gray boots and have a larger calf: A) The pull tab for taking them off is totally unnecessary since there are zippers AND buckles AND the material is soft, and doesn't tuck in. These are the easiest on/off boots I've ever tried. B) The purple plaid material on the inside calf area kind of shows on the top and side edges (use a sharpie to black out the white part of the pattern on the edges so it doesn't stand out so much). 3) These will scuff up super fast, and won't take polish (especially because of color), so prepare for a weathered look, fast. 4) Buckles mean you jingle when you walk :) 5) The buckle design is awesome looking, Doc Marten style. 6) Insole is pretty firm/flat, not cushiony compared to how soft the boot leather is. 7) Shaft didn't go to my knee like I expected - maybe they measure outside height instead of inside? Deal breaker: So many people said that they looked great in these boots, and the boots themselves looked like exactly what I wanted, but because of the too-large calf that wasn't adjustable after all, they just looked like fancy rain boots (wide opening at the top) and weren't at all what I needed, even though the feet felt great. Boots should be made with different shaft sizes, just like shoes have different sizes! Now just I hope to find a good custom boot maker in my travels before I wear out my paratrooper boots, or maybe Dr. Martens 1B60 W will work out.

I love Dr Martens shoes. They fit well and last forever it seems. These boots are a great look and are adjustable for larger calves. There are others that I have hard time fitting and I really don't think my calves are huge, not a large person just most boots just enough too tight to be comfortable. They just at times be a pain with the tongue being loose in there so they can be adjustable I have them on last hole on buckle and still loose in ankle area but worth the money and fit and feel great.

I love the style of these boots. Even tho' I wear a 10 USA and ordered the UK 8 I find these to be a tad roomy so I've added insoles to make them a bit more snug. I'm not crazy about the buckles flapping but love the edgy style. The leather is soft and no break in time required. They are not a shiny kinda black but more dull which I find to be OK. I hope they hold up well...

These are great Doc Martins, been wearing their shows since I was a kid. I love the boots but when I put them on I realized I am a tad too old to be wearing them. I could pull them off if they were mid calf height but alas they are almost too my knee and they dont make them any lower. The straps work so you can loosen or tighten the calf as needed.

These are some pretty awesome boots! My only complaint is that the soft leather tongue does this weird bunching up thing at it's base if you stretch your foot/walk around in them for a while. Also I needed to punch some extra holes in the straps to fit them to my calf. However, I fell in between sizes and went with the slightly larger one in the winter, and now that I'm not wearing thick socks all the time, I regret it a little bit.

These boots are my daughter\'s new favorite to wear everyday with everything. I took these to a shoe repair store to move the buckles over (rather than punch extra holes and have extra-long floppy straps) and that worked great! This is a necessity if your legs are slender, as these boots run a little large. Other customers commented on the soft leather, yet I was still surprised by how buttery soft it is! We also added some insoles to make them a little less roomy.

These run quite large (I originally got a 9 and exchanged for an 8, which is still spacious for my normally 8 1/2 feet) and very roomy in the calves; you could easily tuck jeans and heavy socks inside. The leather is not the "old school" Dr. Martens stuff (the hard kind that took months to break in, but then lasted forever); these are wearable from day one. I think it's the dye and will fade over time. The leather isn't dark black, it's kind of grey-ish green. Got lots of compliments on the style and found them comfortable in a job where I spend many hours on my feet on a concrete floor. Someone told me they saw identical boots at a department store for quite a bit more than the Zappos price.

I just got my boots this morning. So far so good. The leather is not as high quality as I would have hoped for the price... A pleasant surprise on the inside with the purple plaid lining.. The only down sides are: the leather straps are flimsy, the leather down by the toes where the tongue starts have a tendency to flap open, and they are made in China. I hope they will last for a bit on my bike and not make me wish I hadn't dropped so much $$$ on them... I miss the old Doc Marten Company.. Other than that they fit my big calves and that is a plus:)

These boots are fierce! I've gotten a ton of compliments on these biker-meets-Edward-Scissorhands boots from both women and men. Plus, they work great with pants or shorter skirts (due to the height of the boot - they look better with skirts at least 4" above the knee), in both casual and business casual settings. Although, this may depend on your line of business. (These worked great at a recent tradeshow where I didn't have time to change into more business-like shoes. I was on my feet all day and had to lug a giant booth into my car during a blizzard. Bless these boots!) The rubber sole works well in snow, ice, and slush, and the leather resists cold and water well. The straps are easily adjustable, and the zip-up feature makes taking them on and off very easy. I did not experience the need to break these in at all. My only complaint is that though the footbed is well padded, I would prefer more arch support (I wear arch supports with them). Also, you do need to wear thick socks to avoid having the top of the heel cut into your Achille’s. However, these are the best black boots I've found that I can walk in all day and wear to the office. Try them!

Awesome shoes that require a bit of effort - These shoes look AMAZING. I have two small gripes with them though. First of all, they are a little tall for my 5'3" frame – they go up to my knees. However, with a short skirt they look really cute (and hardcore!). I wish they were a little shorter so they were more versatile. They make a shorter version of these, but they were a little shorter than I was looking for. My only other small issue is that they take some time to break in, as will all Dr. Marten's. However this was expected and not a big deal. All in all they are great quality shoes for a great price.

Dr. Martens Phoenix Phina-Tall Boot - Black - WOW these boots are buttery soft & look WAY better in person. I usually wear an 8 in boots but the 7's fit perfect. I have large calves and these fit without any adjustments to the straps. My only gripe is when you unzip them the side flap is not attached, so you have to "put it back into place" before you zip them back up. I'm planning on wearing these with skinny jeans tucked in. Yesterday I wore them with a skirt and it was way cute. As always Zappos has the BEST service!

Hot looking, but mediocre fit. I usually wear a 7.5 in US women's. I bought the UK 5 based on reviews. No problem fitting my calves. It fits fine in the toe, too, but the boot is super (almost painfully) tight across instep, but my narrow heels are only slightly slipping in the heels with a thin sock. I'm hoping the top stretches with wear so I can see if a thicker sock helps keep my heels from slipping. Maybe they are tight because I have high arches? They will need to stretch in order for them to feel comfortable. Right now, I doubt I could wear these all day comfortably.

Love the look of these boots! I'm normally a size 10, so I selected the size 8 men. Way too big in the foot, perfect in the calves! Super disappointed, but since Zappos offers free shipping and returns (thanks Z!) I've just ordered the size 7. I will let you know how they fit!

Absolutely no ankle support. Absolutely no arch support. Runs TRUE TO SIZE, not small as other reviewers claim. Found the quality if the leather to be inferior for the price. A big disappointment for Docs.

Unlike most Doc Martens, these don't take much breaking in. The leather is very soft, and moves pretty freely straight out of the box. They get character, but also lose structure with wear. I've had mine for about three and a half months, and wear them almost every day, and they don't quite stay up anymore. Due to the lack of laces the side panels have a tendency to slip around/fall down after a while. If you don't have larger calves and ankles these will be very big. I have a small frame but fairly muscular calves, and these are much too large for me. I usually wear them with skinny jeans, and there's lots of extra room (I use it to hold my passport, purse items). The only thing I would recommend to make these more comfortable is some of the 1/2 sized arch support insoles. With those in I can wear these for 12 hours, walking, hiking, road trips, bus, bars, work and my feet always feel great.

Hmmm...I got these yesterday. Definitely do not order up; they were 2 sizes too big. I wear 9-1/2 and ordered the 8UK (10US). Plus, leather is way too soft for me, no support in foot at all. Toe is good though, not soft. Sent back to exchange for other style. Well made, though. Not as tall as I would have liked as they slouch a little because of soft leather. No arch support at all.

Once you wear these in a bit, the disconnected pieces of the main shaft start shifting and stop staying up. Even after some serious gluing these boots are looking pretty sloppy. The fit is also too wide for me now that they're worn in. I would not suggest them, esp at such a high price point.

What's going on with the sizing? I bought my normal shoe size and these were too small in several places. My toes were smashed together because the boots are too narrow and it feels like there isn't any arch support. The color is definitely gray and not black. I was just disappointed in every way by these boots. I returned these and bought Demonia boots.
