Apparently "shirred" is a flattering thing for my particular body shape, which I liken to a slightly lumpy sausage link at this particular point in time. Not an overstuffed sausage, just slightly lumpy and fluffy, to be polite about it. Oh, and I was unsure as to how to pronounce "shirred" and looked it up. I like to know what fashion terms mean even though I am usually in a t-shirt and jeans. So this "shirred" paneled skirt. My what a contraption. Shirring AND paneling. Well the thing is, it's very comfortable and -- get this -- it goes ON, which was "selling point number 1" for me. I mean I could actually get into it. Bingo! Balloons and party favors. And then it is also super comfortable to wear! My sausage-y-ness felt GOOD about itself, and, dare I say, I don't even look so sausage-y IN this skirt. I think there is some sorcery at work here, the good kind, in this "shirring" thing. Paneling, too. Maybe it's a clever optical illusion, but whatever it is I swear I look like I'm about 6 feet tall. Well, ok, I am. But I look decidedly less sausage-y in this thing, as I keep repeating because I am a tad senile. I can't say you will like this shirred paneled skirt or that it will de-sausage you too. But it has done that for me and I now have two of these shirred paneled things. You would think that bunching fabric up would make you look even lumpier? Weird. It seems to have the opposite effect on me. Maybe that is how it works: maybe the lumps of the fabric actually serve to distract the eye from the lumps in the person. Oh I have a million theories about all this as you can imagine, and only so many hours in the day.

This company knows its business. Saw a young friend (33) with this skirt in black. Hesitated due to the age thing (68) but she convinced me to try it and she was right. Skirt is age defying. Good for all of us girls with grandmother faces. Fits, flatters and makes one feel great. Again I say...order more than one.

Interesting...I bought the exact item, same size, in White and in Moonbeam. When laid flat, One in about 4" wider than the other, and one is 6" longer. Both are labeled the same size and Zappos did not make any error. So much for their quality control. As far as size??? it's anyones guess.

LOVE this skirt but, as other shave noted, the sizing is WAAAAAAAY off. I have three colors in medium and I just bought my fourth medium which is MUCH smaller. I bought THREE more mediums and they are all different sizes, off by inches! LOVE the skirt HATE the sizing!

I have discovered a wide variation in the actual measurements of these skirts, which may explain why some wearers are recommending a size smaller. I usually wear a size 6. I am happy with the meadow green, size small, that I bought recently. It is 31 inches in length which is good with my height of 5'7''. The waist is generous -- 17 inches across the front (so 34 inches around total). But that's OK, because I can tighten the drawstring and wear it up near the waist, or loosen and let it and let it drop a bit to make the skirt longer. The skirt will be great on a trip this summer to a warm climate. I think it will pack well and wrinkles won't show. I like it a lot. So I ordered two more skirts in different colors -- white and anchor navy -- both in EXTRA small because I was worried if the fabric would stretch. Well, the EXTRA small anchor navy skirt that arrived yesterday actually has a significantly larger waist than the small meadow green. The extra small anchor navy measures 18 and a half inches across the front at the waist (or 37 inches around total). The length is 29 inches. All the skirts widen and inch or so at about hip length, so the extra small anchor navy is looser at the hips than the small meadow green. The white skirt in extra small fit about how I would expect an extra small to fit me -- too snug around the hips for my taste. Plus the white is too see though for me. The waist is 16 inches across the front and the length is 29 inches. The white will go back because it's too narrow. The anchor navy will join the return trip because it's too baggy and I don't like the shorter length. I am not sure what to make of this wide spectrum of dimensions in the product, but there seems to be a degree of randomness in what's inside the packaging. The only consistency is that the extra small is two inches shorter in length than the small.

Well, I love this brand... and I cannot tell you how many people stop me on the street to compliment me, or ask me about my XCVI skirt, pants, etc. However, I am beyond frustrated with the sizing variations. I typically wear between a size small and a size medium. However, I have smalls that are baggy, and I have mediums that are so tight, I can barely squeeze into them. They really need to do a better job with quality control. I'm at the point where I don't know what size to order.

These skirts are crazy sized. White Medium was like tiny toddler size. Medium in the grey fit perfectly as an 8-10, but black Medium was too small (not as small as the toddler white) and the khaki LARGE fit exactly like the Black Medium. Zappos - you should charge this manufacturer for all the shipping back and forth. I'm going to try ordering XL in the Black and Khaki because I LOVE this skirt when it actually fits me and could wear it every day.

This is better than I expected, and I like it for what it is. I'll see how it holds up, bec. some folks say it doesn't, but it looks fine out of the package. The color I got (the sort of khaki-tan-taupe color) is nice: it's fairly dark, which I like, and has quite a lot of olive green in it, but it is a taupe color too. The fabric has some stretch in it, plus the ruching makes it give, so it is super comfortable when you sit, walk etc. It is form fitting and thus, in a way, pretty darn elegant and dare I say "sexy" (I'm a fit 59 so kind of past the trying to look sexy thing but you get the point...) for a super casual summer skirt in hot weather-which is what I bought it for. I think you could dress this up with the right top and shoes and cool necklace and look terrific, or, do what I plan to do and wear it with a looser maybe boxy tee or shirt tied at the waist and comfortable walking sandals or FitFlops. I'm going to see how it holds up when washed, and if it does, I'll buy another color. Would also work for California winter with clogs, or boots and a sweater. Happy. It does fit the body snuggly, but the ruching forgives and makes you look pretty darn "perfect". :) The waist is a tie waist only, and I sort of wish it had a tiny bit of elastic in it, along with the tie, but it is not a problem and definitely not a deal breaker at all. I think this skirt would work best on those with slim or athletic straight builds, or larger gals with curves who are proportional. I'm not sure how it would look if you didn't-regardless of size- have that proportion of wider hips and round butt, then narrowing down in the thighs. The nice thing about it for me is that hourglass look from behind and front. Kind of gives you that elegant long pencil skirt look, but instead of confining you , you are as comfy (almost) as in your sweats! I'm 5 ft 5.5 inches, weigh 125, athletic build, and took a small. The XS fit but I felt it wasn't as flattering in the hips as the fabric stretched out more and the ruching wasn't as visible.

This is the perfect skirt. The way it’s sewn means that it sort of collapses to your body to create a slim column, but at the same time it’s so comfortable I am happy to spend a long day in it, working, cooking, playing with dog, etc. Note that the sizing is completely wackadoodle. I own this in size M in Anchor Navy and size XS in Black. Bonkers. Took several orders and returns to accomplish this. Total nutwagon-town. It should tell you how much I love this skirt that I put up with the sizing shenanigans. Get!

This is the second time I bought this skirt - it is just wonderful! A must have! Super comfortable, unusual design, doesn’t wrinkle. The sizes really are (as other reviewers say) hit or miss. My original skirt was a M and fits fine (I’m a size 12/14), but I ended up exchanging the new one to an XL which fits like the M (I already have does).

I ordered this skirt in the meadow (pale green) and moonbeam (medium brown). After reading the other comments I ordered an x-small (normally I wear a small). Jackpot! It fit perfectly on my 5'5, 124 pound boyish frame. Still curious, I wanted to know what the Caspian blue color looked like so I ordered it and it was delivered the next day. Now I had a crucial decision to make, which 2 of the three skirts should I keep, because the blue skirt was gorgeous! I could not decide so I kept all 3 skirts. The quality of the fabric and the workmanship was outstanding (sewing is my passion). Thanks Zappos, keep up the good work!

What. Is. The. Deal. With. Sizing? I have two other XCVI skirts in size S, and they're perfect. This one (in white) was so snug, I could hardly pull it up. Others have complained about this issue as well. Guess next time I'll order two different sizes and keep the one that works. But this one goes back.

I love this skirt, I have 6 of them in a variety of colors.My warning is that the sizing is *shockingly* inconsistent. All of my XLs in black were the same, but the XLs in Fennel Pigment and Moonbeam were at least a smaller, despite being the same tag size. I don't know if the company uses different sewers who do not strictly follow size, or if tags that say XL were put on Ls, but it really is a surprising problem, given the overall quality of the company.

So comfortable and flattering I ordered this in two different colors! And they were delivered even quicker than estimated, very happy with my purchases!

I love this skirt. It fits true to size and the shirring makes it very forgiving. I am usually a size small and that was the size I ordered. I purchased two colors, moonbeam and white and i had to wear a slip under the white one.

I feel like I look fantastic in this skirt AND I’m super comfortable AND the skirt exudes an effortless vibe. (And I am someone with all kinds of body images issues and social neuroses...!). I agree that the sizing is a little goofy, but between the merits of the skirt and Zappos’ outstanding shipping and returns, I say it’s worth it to order different sizes and return what doesn’t work. Get!

This is the greatest skirt ever! It is soooo flattering. I'm 5'8", 150 lbs and the medium fits perfectly. It seems like it would not be slimming but it is totally slimming. I bought 2 colors.

Beautiful deep blue, striking perfect fit. I love this skirt, and also have the deep gray soft corduroy.

This is the best all around town skirt. High quality fabric. Great fit. Very hip bohemian style. Perfect to throw on instead of jeans or shorts. It's also great for travel. Doesn't show any wrinkles and very comfortable. I love these so much, I own three of them. One I just shortened to knee length just to give it a different look. Wear with sneakers, boots or moccasins.

As another reviewer mentions, the sizing is off in this skirt. I can usual wear a S or a M skirt. Sadly, the M was sold out in my size, so I ordered the S and hoped for the best. The S was way too tight but fortunately the M was back in stock so I ordered that. I received the M and that too was too tight! I swear it was the same size as the S. I sent that one back and ordered the L. It was HUGE! I really want the skirt to work so I'm considering ordering another M to see if the sizing is better...but man, what a hassle.

I have two other skirts in this style. I ordered the black in exactly the same size as the two I have. It was about 4” longer than they are and hung almost to my ankles. I considered washing it in hopes that it would shrink up, but I abandoned that idea when I noticed that one of the elastic strips down the front was at least an inch longer than the other one. Further confirming my decision to return it is the fact that the material is cotton sheeting. The black picks up any lint it comes into contact with.

Everyone said to choose a size down as the skirt runs large. This is not true if you are a curvy girl. I should have stayed true to size and now I had to do an exchange. So it really just depends upon your body type.

Based on other reviews, I ordered the (XS) and (S). Couldn’t comfortably slide waistband over hips (humbling). Had previously ordered - and kept - the wide leg pants by same maker in (S) and am very happy with those (true sizing). Trying again for M in skirt. Fingers crossed! I’m average bodied, 5’6”, 128 lbs.

Love this style and color. Great for travel. Fabric is totally easy to care for. Runs big, size down. Just buy it!

Skirt runs big, size down for tighter fit or get your normal size for looser fit. I own 4 flavors in this skirt. Love them all and quality it top notch!
