These shoes work wonderfully for me, even though they are very expensive in my opinion. My feet are extremely difficult to fit. Almost no shoes work for me. I need a very roomy toe box and a heel that doesn't slip. I have purchased a few pairs of these over the past 5 years or so. The only problem I've had is that sooner or later the strap will break off. I've had my current pair for a few years though. I wear these shoes with pants or jeans, not with a skirt. I am a 9-9.5 (wide) shoe size, and I take a 40 in these.

I now own two pair of Matai shoes (in black, and metallic with black). I wear 37, or a US Size 6, and usually wear a C or D width because I my feet are wide across the toes. The Matai is perfect for me on days when I need to wear flats because my arthritic knees cannot take higher heels. Many flats do not have enough arch support and my feet become sore and fatigued. Naot's footbed provides perfect arch support for my feet and still have long enough straps in the Mary Jane styles to stay latched across my high instep. In addition, the wide toe bed does not compress my foot. I usually need to choose clogs because of heel spurs, but the Matai's heel coverage is low enough that the shoes do not press on the bone spurs. I have been wearing Naot shoes for well over 15 years and have only had one pair that needed to be returned because of a poor fit. An additional bonus with the Matai shoe is that the footbed is removable and replaceable. I have had several pair of Naot shoes for which I have purchased new footbeds to essentially double the life of the shoes. Yes, Naots are expensive, but I am still wearing some shoes that are well over 10 years old making them a great bargain in my opinion.

The hands-down most comfortable shoes that have ever been invented! I have bunions that prevent me from wearing regular flats. These Naot Matais are so spiffy and comfortable I can't even believe it. I replaced the insert in the right shoe with a lower (flatter) insert for a while so that my bad bunion would not hurt when I first wore the shoes -- and it worked! I had zero trouble getting used to these shoes, wore them right away all day, comfortably. They are really wonderful! Well worth the price!

Undeniably comfortable and cute. However, after less than a year, not even wearing the shoes very often, a slit appeared on the outside suede edge. Instead of sending them back, I super glued the slit. Mistake!. I wore the shoes today for the first time in several months and the slit ripped even longer. For a shoe of this price, I expect much better quality. Also, the velcro strap will no longer hold firmly. I have to tighten it often. I would not recommend buying this shoe unless you have no concern about spending big bucks then having the shoe wear out quickly. If you need arch support, you will need to buy inserts.

An extremely comfortable, supportive shoe with soft leather and nice contours. My foot is narrow in the heel and medium in the toe box area. I normally wear a size 7, but my foot swam in the 38's, so I returned those and ordered a size 37, which fits like a glove. The "fits true to size" didn't hold true for me, but otherwise I have nothing but the highest praise for these. I love their versatility - they look great with pants (especially jeans) and skirts.

I LOVE THIS THESE SHOES! I have difficulty getting shoes due to multiple medical issues. These are expensive and worth every penny! I am a solid size 8 and ordered a size smaller due to Naots recommendation. I had to return them for my regular size. I also like the way they look, can be dressed up or down. I purchased the black and black suede. Can wear without socks right out of the box! Fantastic! Zappos was super with my exchange as they are with everything!

These are, hands down, the best shoes I've ever owned. They are well made and extremely comfortable. I bought mine a year ago and wear them all the time. I use them to walk to work every day (2 1/2 miles) and love that I don't need to change shoes when I get to the office.

Would have loved to have this shoe, as it is super comfy on my super sensitive feet, but had to return two pairs of the same shoe. I usually wear an 8.5 so the 39 (8) fit just fine as it runs about a half size big. The first pair was defective and the second had been previously worn and was mismatched to the other unworn shoe. Very disappointed and very unlike Zappos. Paying this amount of money for shoes, you expect perfect, brand new shoes. I guess I will be looking for my Matai elsewhere, but for what it is worth, it is one fantastic shoe!

These are very cute shoes, but sadly not for a narrow/low volume foot. I wear a size 10 N and tried the size 40, but they were too short. The 41 was the perfect length, but my foot was swimming in them even with socks. Unfortunately, I will continue looking for a comfy, flat shoe that can accommodate my bony, narrow feet.

I love these shoes, I own 5 pair! They are the only shoes I wear now. These shoes are roomy enough for my meaty feet. I never stuffed my feet into an uncomfortable shoe, so my options are few. These fit my wide feet and I was able to order a 41 instead of a 42. Shoes generally don't fit me. These do!

I have had trouble with my feet for years but not with this shoe! So incredible that I got it in a second color! Most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever owned! No tired feet at the end of the day! Get tons of complements, even from strangers, every time I wear them!

These are my go-to shoes...I wear them everyday. They are comfortable and stylish with little or no "break-in" issues. This is my 4th pair since I discovered them in 2011. Love my Naots!!

I love these shoes for travel -- easy on and off at security and the adjustable strap is handy when your feet are swollen after a 10 hour flight. For sightseeing, they are a good alternative to athletic shoes because they're cushiony and supportive on cobblestones and terrazzo but presentable enough for lunch in a nicer restaurant. They aren't billed as waterproof but I've worn them through some pretty heavy downpours and my feet have stayed dry. Oh, yes -- the most important thing. No blisters. Ever.

So much depends on your foot shape. I am writing as someone who has had the Matai for a few years (maybe 4) - along with another model. With narrow heels and a low volume foot - widish in front, the shoe is too loose for active walking. I have to wear socks - even then, my foot slides around. That strap keeps them on but does not keep them snug or prevent my feet from slipping from side to side. I do not know that ordering a size shorter would work. The point is that if you are just strolling a short distance - no major issues - but for long traipses - as on vacations - this seems perfect initially but may not be supportive because of the slippage. For some reasons the bottoms of my toes were sore after long wearings, which is the first time that ever happened. Also, the suede edge strip did separate early on and has had to be glued. I wish that this shoe was offered with a combination type last for those with the skinny heel/ ample ball of foot shape.

I love these shoes. Unfortunately, when I took them out of the box, there were scratches on them. I wouldn't mind too much, but these are for my daughter's wedding and I wanted them to be perfect.

Lots of reviews for these shoes already and they are fantastic...just wanted to add my comment about sizing. I wear a 39 in the mary jane styles such as Kirei but definitely a 38 in this. My sense is that when it comes to shoes that clearly go with pants -- the loafers and oxfords, boots, etc. -- that Naot does run larger. Which is fine, it just took a little while to figure that out.

I purchased the Naot Matai shoes just 2 short weeks before a vacation to London. These shoes were comfortable immediately! I wore them a couple of times before vacation - but they really didn't need breaking in. I wore them 5 of 9 days in London and never had a problem. After extended walking a couple of days, they had the space in the toe bed for my tired puffy toes! Definitely my go-to shoes for travel - nice with jeans & dress pants.

Comfortable right out of the box. I wear an 8 1/2 or a 9, and the 39 is perfect. Surprisingly lightweight. Definitely not high fashion, but I won't be embarrassed to wear them in Italy - the toe swirl and diagonal strap keep them out of old lady territory, I think!

These shoes are awesome and so comfortable. They are my favorite Naot shoes so far. I wear a size 10.5 and a 42 in some Naot styles does not fit (too short). I find that this style and the Sea fit me the best. This style is the most comfy and I can wear it to work or for casual. I have walked miles in them with no problem at all. My first pair of Naots was the Nau Mai's, which are very nice but a bit tighter and shorter than the Matai in a size 42.

These shoes were comfortable right out of the box. At this price, they should be. They are also very attractive. I broke my foot last year, and no more heels for me. These make me feel fashionable as well as comfy.

I have two pairs of these in size 38, black. I usually wear a wide width, these are marked medium, and they fit me perfectly. This is why I keep coming back to Naots as my favorite brand of shoes. The stitching as pulled away in the front between the leather and the suede as if the stitching didn't quite catch the suede properly. This shoe has only been worn a few times, so that is disappointing. I had this happen with another style of Naot also. This is the only reason I am giving it an overall score of 4 stars.

First let me start off by saying that I have foot issues common with age and have a very hard time finding cute comfortable flat shoes. That being said... I hit the jackpot with this style. They are very comfortable out of the box, provide excellent arch support for my high arches with removable insole in case you need to insert an orthotic, plenty of room in the toe box, adjustable strap and can be worn with or without socks. After ordering several colors, instead of settling on the usual black, I decided on the Peacock which is a very deep, dark, pretty neutral, purplish shade. It is different and fun. Yes, they are expensive but my feet are happy!

Another Zappos customer recommend I try Naot shoes for my 90-year-old mother, who has, for a couple of years, been unhappy with more than one pair of expensive, doctor-prescribed, custom-made, ugly, orthopedic shoes. I ordered the Matai (and the Rahina) and Mom is beaming! A truly exceptional experience (with, of course, Zappos unbeatable service). Flawless shoes!
