I wore Frye boots back in the 70's, loved them then and still do, the fit and comfort is great and I love the style, am already looking at another style to purchase.

I have been looking for a durable stylish pair of short boots for a while and am so glad I found these. The color goes with so many outfits. I am typically an 8.5 in regular shoes and a 9 in boots, so I ordered the 9 in these and they fit perfectly. I would highly recommend these.

This is my 3rd pair of engineers. They do take a little to break in so be patient. I have wore mine in the rain & snow have not had any issues. I find them to be true to size. I have 12 pairs of Frye boots & I can say I do prefer the American made line they offer. Give these a try you won't regret.

These boots are so comfortable, I am normally a size 7.5 but ordered a size 8 and so glad I did. I have flat feet, so no arch and these boots slipped right on, no painful break in period. They also shipped them very quickly!

Lovely boot, unfortunately they did not fit. i wish they made them with a zipper on the side. I'm sure my feet would have space inside, it's just impossible to get them in :-( I will try a bigger size, but I have a feeling it will be too loose, once my feet are in. Such a bummer.

Lots of Love for this boot! Looks large and clunky in the picture but they are not at all. Loving the height and style of these!

I looked at every review I could find before I bought the Engineer 12R boot. Usually with shoes I am an 8 or 8 1/2 and I almost always size up to a 9 for boots. For the Melissa Button Back Zip (wide calf) I ordered a 9 and they fit perfect, because of the narrow toe box. For the Engineer I took the plunge and ordered an 8 1/2 and I am glad I did. The toe is not as narrow as other boots and they fit perfect! I have a rather high arch, so I did need to undo the buckles on the boots before I could slide my foot in. After wearing these around my house for a day or so, taking them off and putting them back on I no longer need to undo the buckles. These boots are a very thick and substantial leather, but they are not hard to break in. Frye leather is of such a quality that a break in may be a bit uncomfortable, but it will not be painful. Because I am a very active person I have a rather wide calf. At first I was worried that this would be a problem, but with a 33 inch inseam the top of the boot doesn't get close to the muscular "problem" parts of my legs. The bottoms of these boots also feel very thick. The rubber looks like it will keep me from slipping around on ice and snow in Minnesota winters. These are not my first pair of Frye boots and they will not be my last. The boots and leather are just wonderful, the customer service is amazing, and no matter what pair of boots you pick they will look good with almost everything you own. These Engineer 12R boots may be my new favorite. They look great with everything, even leggings.

I was worried because I cannot get my tall Paige boots on easily but as soon as I took these out of the box they slid right on. Comfy and not heavy.

Bought these a few months ago and I pretty much wear them everyday. They are extremely durable and go well with most outfits. Once you break them in, they are quite comfortable, even for walking long distances

My husband got me these last winter and I absolutely adore my boots. I wear them all the time and they still look brand new. Only qualm I have is that my arch is very high which makes the boots a little hard to put on. Otherwise I am sold on these.

For years now I have been a big fan of Frye boots. This was my first time ordering on line. I am very pleased with my purchase and look forward to ordering again. With minimal care Frye boots last years and years and are well worth every penny.

These may me the most comfortable pair of boots that I have ever owned. I am a size 7, but I decided to go a half size larger, 7.5. Footbed is a little narrow and with no zipper assistance to ease your foot in the boot, half sizes are a gift of heaven. I tend to over use and over wear all of my shoes, I am thankful that these are so well made.

I have a few Fryes and this has to be the most substantial pair I now own. Great support and extremely comfortable. The leather seems a bit thicker than my pair of Campus. I normally wear a 5.5 and ordered it in that size. If you want a boot to wear with thick socks, I'd go 1/2 a size up. I initially read all of the reviews about this being the, be all and end all of all boots and I'd have to say, they were all right about that! I also love the fact that they are made here in the U.S. If you want a pair of Fryes that will wow you, this is it!

I have always, always wanted a pair of red boots. Always. I only buy Frye boots, and only American-made Frye boots at that. I had already the harness 8r, harness americana short, and the Campus. Then I saw the engineer boot in the lovely burnt red color. There were very few left for sale, but I secured a pair in size 9, which is my Frye size. These boots were decidedly too small. I was shocked but exchanged for a 9.5. I am telling you I almost could have gone for a 10, as these boots really do run small. All my other Fryes broke in effortlessly - not so with these. Oh, I almost gave up a number of times, but the red boots called to me, and off we'd go on another dog walk. I got blisters. On both feet. In different places. Repeatedly. I have never worked this hard to break in a boot, but I am here to tell you....it was worth it. We got off to a rough start, my red engineers and I, but we are inseparable now. They are like slippers, though they prefer you think of them as tough little buggers, which they are. When I walk in them, the heel makes a satisfying sound that conveys authority, which I love. When the time came to condition and clean them up, I applied the Frye cream all over the boots. It darkened them to a lovely cherry red, the red they have always wanted to be! Complete strangers will stop me to talk about these boots. I don't know if it's the color or the style, but when I slip them on with my sun dresses and shorts, people notice. Get yourself the harness 12r and the engineer 12r and maybe a Campus and you are set for life!

These boots have molded to my feet and are the only pair of shoes I've worn since I got them. Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but after about two weeks of regular wear to break them in (I swabbed the inside three times with alcohol to loosen the leather) they fit perfectly. I have high arches and they don't pinch or rub anymore. I have wide feed and they hug them without squeezing. They are awesome.

I bought these two weeks ago after agonizing for months over what style of Frye's to get it this time. I already own a pair of the black harness model which I loved, however, I wanted something a bit different . They are everything I hoped they would be. So tough, so versatile, timelessly stylish- they scream quality. I wear them with skirts, dresses, pants and jeans. My only warning is they need to be broken in, it took these past two weeks for them to start loosening up. Also I love that they are Made in the USA, it feels good to support craftsmanship here at home.

I bought these boots as a gift to myself a couple of months ago. I have 3 other pairs of Fryes (harness short, harness americana, campus 14L) and love them, but I wanted a pair in red, and with a rubber sole. These boots definitely run 1/2 small. I had to order up so that the arch support fit my foot properly, and so I had room in the toe box. These boots were a nightmare to break in - took many walks with my dog and suffered some blisters on my heels - but once they broke in, they became my favorite pair. I feel like I can stomp around any terrain in them. I fondly call them my end-of-the-world boots because if I had to grab one pair of boots and live in them, these would be it. I love the burnt red; goes with so much of my stuff, even some pinks. The rubber soles add enough cushioning that my feet never get tired. I love the height of the 12r and think they go better with dresses than the 8r; the extra height adds some femininity to an otherwise tough-looking boot. I only buy made in America Fryes, and these are.

I love these boots! They fit great and look amazing. I ordered 1/2 size larger than I usually wear because a review said they were a little snug. I think I could have gone either size. Good job Zappos!

This is my first pair of Frye boots and I'm really glad I bought them. They're gorgeous in person and they fit perfectly. I saw a couple other reviews about sizing problems with the boot opening but I didn't have any issues. I normally wear an 8 or an 8 1/2 and the 8 fits me perfectly with extra toe room. The Madden boots I bought last year have nothing on these boots. Would definitely recommend!

These look fantastic! I didn't have any problems getting them on or off. I always wear a 6.5, and these were true to size but a little roomy. Plenty of room for a warmer sock in winter. I'm 5'3", and while my calves aren't huge, they are definitely round and solid -- despite this, the boots are pretty flattering over jeans. The first time I wore these I could feel a seam or something in the footbed of one shoe -- a few other reviews mentioned this. It wasn't uncomfortable and now I can't feel it anymore. Overall a great buy!

These boots are gorgeous. The leather is high quality and they are finely made. I have wide, big feet, and after reading reviews about it being difficult to get these babies on the first couple of times I was considering ordering a size up, but I am glad I didn't and just ordered my size. It is a bit of work getting them on the first few times, but the beauty of these boots is that they form to your foot. Just wear some pantyhose or thin socks to give your foot some slippiness and don't be shy about working it down into the boot.

I love these! First pair I ordered had a flaw I guess. One of the boots I just couldn't get on and had almost given up but then I shoved forward and pulled down on the heel which was folding over preventing it from fully getting on the foot. I just couldn't get over the thought of having to do that every time I put on the shoe. I called customer service after I decided to return them and had already printed the return label. I asked about exchanging and the service rep. wasn't really helpful and offered no exchange assistance. The more I thought about it I just felt like I should exchange and see if a new pair would be different. I did the chat message online with a customer service rep and they were very helpful and had a new pair to me the next day and told me just to send the other ones back or they would charge me if it was beyond 14 days. The boots came the next day and are perfect. They fit fine, slip on fine and don't need any kind of break in time. I am very happy with my purchase! I was worried about the brown brush off color maybe looking weird but I really like it.
