If you haven't even purchased a 'real' leather boot before, please read... Fryes are made to last a life time. The Veronica Slouch is no exception. Order your normal size. I usually wear a six so I ordered a six. Put on a short or ankle height sock of medium thickness. I like to use my running socks. Sit down. Unpack your boots. Smell them. If you are like me, say, "Ooooh. Aaaah." a few times. Then put them on. When you first put them on, you WILL think that they are WAY too small. You will struggle and possibly break a sweat getting this boot on your foot. Pull the shaft up straight and stomp your way in. Make sure you have enough lenth in front of your toe...I have about 3/4 of an inch. Walk around long enough to make sure your heel doesn't rub badly. Your boots will break in after a bit of wear...I usually wear mine 24/7 for a few weeks until they feel like old friends. If your leather boots are loose when you get them or fit perfectly out the box, know they are going to stretch and mold to your foot and may or may not be too big or start rubbing as they do. A boot that feels a bit tight to get on in the ankle area and a little stiff on is going to relax into a great fit. Ok, I ordered the Cognac Stone Wash and the distressed dark brown. I have to say they are both amazingly gorgeous boots of two different flavors. I'm keeping the cognac. I'd keep both if my wallet allowed. The cognac is perfectly distressed on the outside...they look like you've inherited them from your John Wayne grandfather, but better. The dark brown is a beautiful full-grain leather with minor reddish-toned variations. They are much dressier and polished. A final note...I have very athletic calves. The regular Veronica slouch might not fit you like you expect if you have legs like me. My naked calves measure about 15 inches around at their widest so the Veronica doesn't do much slouching. I certainly can fit my skinny jeans or leggings in there but there isn't room to spare. I'm hoping down the road to either get the shaft stretched by a cobbler or broken in enough so that I can wear thick socks over my skinny jeans with the boots. If you like the way these look, order them. I know everyone says that, but they are timeless and soft and amazing!

I thought I would add a review here from the perspective of someone who has owned these boots for two years. They are wonderful, amazing, so comfortable. I have walked miles and miles in these, probably every day for the past two winters, more or less. They have held up really well. The only problem for me now is that the leather has relaxed so much in the ankle that now they are very slouchy, and I do not know if anything can be done. I have big calves to begin with, which is why I chose these boots. Now I am at the last hole on the top buckle, and they still slide down within minutes. It is not the calf circumference, it is that the ankle is not supporting the upper part of the boot. This is not a complaint as the boots have served me well, I just do not like the super slouchy look, like puddles of leather around my ankle. This is a recent issue, so I would say that it took a solid two years of heavy wearing for this to happen. I hope this is helpful info. Also, Fryes are consistently half a size large for me (I own four pairs, all 7½, while I am an 8 in all other shoes).

Get these! I love Frye boots. I have 5 pairs of Frye boots. I was looking this year for a great pair of brown boots and tried several brands...since I already had these in black I finally returned (yet again) my other purchases from Zappos this pair. I am so glad I did. They are beautiful. Slip them on with a plastic produce bag if you have a hard time getting them on the first time...after that you won't have a problem. Save yourself the time and just get Frye boots. Thank you Zappos for your great customer service.

I bought these boots a little over a year ago, and I still love them and wear them every chance I get. I'm a 6.5-7, and got the 6.5 upon advice from the Nordstrom associate. They felt pretty snug at first and I could only wear very thin socks, and for the first month I toyed with the idea of exchanging them for the 7's. The snugness was more in the narrowness of the toe bed, but not the length. I'm glad I didn't exchange them though, because they definitely stretched out just like the high quality Frye leather is known to do, and now they fit so perfectly. I can also wear thicker socks now if I want to. The footbed never really felt padded, however, and although I never ever get blisters, my feet can get a bit tired after wearing these all day. I still adore them however, and would purchase them again in a heartbeat.

Great boots by Frye (aren't they always) - I can't wait to have these in my wardrobe for this fall/winter (and many more after that)! I ordered these 3 times to try to find the right color (there were more options than I needed, but that indicated what a great boot these were). The Black Calf Shine Vintage was a stiffer leather, with a vintage gray color. They were cute, but I didn't love the white stitching at the sole. So I tried the Black Vintage Tumbled Full Grain. The leather was softer, the color more "true black" - but the soles were the smoother tread, with the leather heel (I like more traction). Strangely the Black Soft Vintage boots had a rubber sole and heel, that was more comfortable and had more grip. That was the deciding factor - the Soft Vintage leather is much much softer, but I'm sure the Tumbled would feel that way in no time. I saw some reviews that said they hit at an unflattering spot on the calves - I totally disagree. I'm 5'8 and I think it's a nice change from high knee boots, especially with jeans or longer skirts. Love them already!

These boots were a total impulse buy. Never owned a pair of boots (except for wellies) in my life, but all of a sudden decided I needed brown riding boots. These do not disappoint! They are awesome, straight out of the box. No breaking in required. I am usually a 6.5 in everything, but they didn't have my size in stock, so I ordered a 7. Wearing them with thin socks, I have just the right amount of wiggle room for my toes, so I think it was a good thing I sized up. They are not too heavy, which was a fear I had about boots in general. I bet I could walk in these things all day if I had to. I have thick calves, but they fit just fine. They are price-y, but worth every penny! Must give kudos to Zappos for their amazing customer service. I ordered them late Monday night, they were on my doorstep Wednesday!

Love these boots! I ordered them in my regular size and had to return them because they were too tight. I got them a half size larger and they were perfect. These boots are expensive but worth the money (so far). Love the dark brown color. Other boots did not fit my calves (too loose). These were perfect.

Adore these boots! The quality of the leather, and the overall boot, is fantastic. My shoe size is 10, so this is what I ordered. Like most good leather boots, they were tight when I put them on the first time, but fit very comfortably within 2-3 wearings. I've had these boots for about two months and have used them hard. I've traveled with these boots, and any shoe that can get me through two straight days of travel in comfort and style are at the top of my list! I'm very pleased with them.

I've had these boots for almost two years now. They are fabulous. They go with almost anything from mini-skirts to skinny jeans to dresses. I have muscular legs and had some trouble finding tall boots that fit, but feel and look great. My feet are also on the wide side (wide shoes tend to be too big and normal sizes too small)...these fit ok-a little snug but the leather stretches. They are extremely durable and comfortable, the leather soft and flexible. I get compliments on them all the time. I will definitely be adding more frye boots to my collection over the coming years!

The reviews for the Veronica Slouch boots speak for themselves. I was stalking these boots for a long time and finally broke down and bought them! Very comfortable right out of the box! I don't like slouchy boots and these are really not very slouchy, just a bit. Dress them up or down. I have to say, I have noticed many women stalking my boots! Just get them already- so worth the money!

I love these boots! I had to put a plastic bag on my foot to get in the first 1-2 times. It is still a chore to get my foot in, especially with socks on. I normally don't fit into boots because I have a wide calf (especially the middle of my calf) but these actually fit me! They are very comfortable and the leather is so soft.

Love these boots! The leather is supple and they have a great coloration to them! I have no doubt these boots are going to last! I have a hard time finding boots that look good on me since I'm 5'2 and have a short leg. Most boots hit me too high, these don't; however, they would look good on a longer leg as well. I'm considering the black now!

These boots are da bomb! Only thing is, they are much softer than I anticipated, so I worry about the longevity of them. For the price, I would hope I can get several good years out of them. They look great with skinny jeans. I wore them to work the other day and someone told me I looked like biker chick, cool! They smell awesome too! No more stinky closet smell, just yummy leather goodness. My only complaint is that the left inside sole bed is coming up. I'm sending them back for another pair. Get a pair, you will love them, but if you are hard up for cash, pass.

So I finally ordered these boots after wanting them for almost a year. I was hesitant because they were so expensive, but I had been looking around and could not find anything I liked as much. So when I was lucky enough to have some extra money come my way, I decided to splurge. Well they arrived today and they are absolutely gorgeous! Beautiful color, super soft leather and they look great. I ordered my regular size and they are a little snug but I know they will break in. Second, I ordered them on Saturday morning and they arrived at my door on Monday. Amazing! Thank you, Zappos, for another great purchasing experience!

Love these boots. I have tried other Frye boots and they were not as comfortable, however these are awesome. I know they are a bit money but they are beautiful! I found them to be true to size, I wear a 9.5 and that is what I got... I actually have a little room for socks.

I contemplated ordering this boot for weeks. I've, on occasion, run into issues with boots fitting my calves. I bit the bullet and ordered the boots and absolutely love them! In fact, a week after my black ones arrived, I ordered the taupe. I'm usually a 7 or 7.5, I ordered the 7.5, which are simply cozy with a thick sock. There was no break-in period; straight out of the box and onto the pavement for hours of shopping in Chicago. Great investment!

I love these boots. The vintage shine calf has a slightly pebbled grayish look and is extremely versatile. These are a good compromise for those not wanting the distressed look of the Stonewash or the overly shiny black look of the regular black. The smell of the leather is divine and I get lots of compliments on them. Depending on the width of your calf, they may or may not slouch as much however the adjustable buckle on the side helps. Zappos rocks, by the way. Their customer service is excellent! Because of the uniquness of the leather, I exchanged my original purchase a couple times to ensure I got the look I wanted and they were great about it! Fast shipping too. For my shoe purchases, I choose Zappos! :)

The are the best boots. I had them in brown and loved them so much I got the black ones. Very comfortable. There is room to expand the upper part of the boot in case you have bigger calves. The fit is a little snug initially but still comfortable. As with any great boots, they form to your feet the more you wear them. Definitely recommend!

Love this boot. Bought the calf shine vintage which was described as black. It however was not a true black color- it looks like a deep steel grey (at least the pair I received looks that way). I'm happy. I'm not sure I could justify another pair of black books! I am a true size 8 and in this style, I order 7.5 and it fits perfect. Great for slim calves. Very happy with these.

These boots are absolutely gorgeous! I unfortunately had to return them just because I felt like they didn't look right on me, but wow. They are beautiful boots. My returning them had nothing to do with the quality or comfort, just the particular style and how it looked on me. The construction is fantastic, and they are shockingly comfortable when you first try them on. I didn't have a chance to wear them for more than a few minutes inside, but I could tell they would be comfy boots. To my surprise, the calf was actually very forgiving. They arrived buckled on the second notch (with one left to go bigger) and they fit my 15 1/2" calves perfectly with no struggle (and with skinny jeans on). Don't let the calf measurement discourage all of you athletic ladies...I'm in the same boat. I always have a hard time finding boots that will fit over my calves and these are perfect. They did run a tad big in my opinion. I usually wear an 8, and the 8 seemed to be a bit big for me. The footbed was a tad too narrow for my liking, but that's just my preference. It's too bad they didn't look better on me because they are absolutely to die for boots. If you can pull them off, I highly recommend them!

I've never been one to write reviews but had to take the time to say that I absolutely love these boots. I saw them in a local store but when they didn't have my size I went to the Zappos website. These arrived in less than 2 days and are amazing right out of the box. No breaking in required and I'd say true to size. The color is gorgeous and the leather so soft and supple. They are a bit loose in the calves but my calves are narrow. I actually like the slightly loose, casual, slouchy look, as this is what I was after. These are great over jeans and with skirts. I pretty much think I'll be living in these boots for a while. Although spendy, they are a timeless style that I'll wear for years to come; well worth the cost.

Beautiful boots! Fits true to size, I am a size 6.5 and ordered the 6.5 and they fit great. I can also wear with a sock. You can totally see the quality and craftsmanship in this boot. Cannot wait to wear them with skinny black jeans or black leggings!

Just your standard, high-quality Frye boots. They look great with leggings. I have short legs and big calves, I usually have a hard time finding boots that work. But these fit fine and can be further adjusted with buckles. I love 'em!
