The straps look cool, but do they give me problems. They are continuous; the straps are really one long strap, going from around the ankle, over top of the foot, under the ball of the foot through the sole, over the big toe, under the big toe through the sole, over the big toe again, under the ball of the foot through the sole to the outside of the foot, and then over the foot meeting back at the ankle in one continuous loop. Confused? Try attempting to determine which side of which strap to pull in order to loosen the one that cuts off the circulation to the big toe. I’m not sure how these other reviewers hike in them; I can only wear them around casually. Trying to climb hills in them only causes me an endless cycle of loosening one strap only to cause the other to be too tight and trying in vain to find equilibrium. But they look cool.

Toe problem -
These were great - except that they strangled my toe. The straps kept on getting tighter as I walked, and it was just impossible to wear them. On the upside, the people at Chaco's were great about this - apparently it's a problem they've encountered before. First they tried to repair the shoes (they have some standard procedure that they say usually works), and when that didn't work they sent me a pair of the basic style (Z/1 or whatever) and they are great. No charge (except what I paid to send the shoes back to them).

Ouch!
Mine looked great, but the heel was way too small, and I have pretty thin feet. The two sides where the straps attached to the shoe were too thin and dug into my feet. Caution future Chaco buyers.

Didn't work for me. I need a lighter weight sandal with a flexible sole. These straps are adjustable, which would be great for my narrow feet but I need softer straps. I can imagine these sandals would work very well for most people. I have very picky feet.

Pain in my toe -
I bought these because everyone I know raves about the Chacos that they own. I chose this style because it looked just slightly more fashionable/feminine than the single strap. I regret my choice because the strap across the big toe slowly cinches down and cuts off my circulation as I walk. A friend of mine has the exact same complaint. Others Chaco owners have said that they solve this by just pulling the strap so that the toe crossover section lies flat on the shoe. Excellent solution if you've purchased the single strap style, but can't work at all with this style. Other than that one, fairly major complaint, the shoe is comfortable. I would recommend either buying the Z/2 Unaweep or the ZX/1 Unaweep. DON'T buy this one!!

Chaco's just aren't for every foot -
After I finally figured out how to adjust all the straps (not exactly how the box explains it, but keep pulling in various directions, starting with heel), I decided the heel cup was too curved inward towards my foot, despite my narrow heel, and wasn't that comfortable. Besides, everyone's wearing them now.

Painful straps -
I found all those straps difficult to navigate my toe through, also they are very stiff, scratchy and uncomfortable.

Toe loop troubles -
Zappos was great, but alas I think my shoe was defective. The straps would not stay adjusted! No matter how loose I made the toe loop (and the rest of the straps), after half a mile my toe was literally turning purple because the strap had tightened itself so much. I called Zappos after 2 or 3 weeks, they agreed it was defective and let me exchange the shoe even though I'd been wearing it. The exchange process was very easy. Except for the tightening problem, I did LOVE the shoe and I exchanged it for one without the toe loop which came today and is SO much easier to adjust and the straps do stay put on this shoe.

Not my cup of tea -
I am a huge fan of Chaco's-- the design and utilitarian function of these shoes are unbeatable. I was disappointed, however, when I received the ZX/2 Unaweep because as soon as I tried them own, I knew I would have to return them. They were too fussy with all of the straps (took too long to get on and off) and the straps around the top part of my foot did not adjust! Only the straps around the ankle. I have thin feet so this wasn't good for me. I returned them and I'm going try another one of the Unaweep styles. As always, Zappos was fantastic with their customer service and my return was so easy.

This shoe is still too big, but I felt the next size down was too small... I ended up getting the larger size, because the smaller just wasn't comfortable. I really haven't worn this shoe around much, because it looks like a clown shoe on me. I wish Chaco made half sizes!

Not quite right -
I got these shoes because I was looking for water sandals that have good arch support. These Chaco's have this. Unfortunately, the top edge of the arch support rubs in the wrong place for me. Also, they are challenging to adjust.

Cute, but uncomfortable.
I really like the look of these shoes, but the braids make the shoes much less comfortable than the normal styles of Chacos. I found them more difficult to adjust and more likely to cause blisters.

I am a Chacos fan, and these made my feet so sore and swollen. The straps are too tight and impossible to loosen, especially the toe strap. Also, the way the straps come out of the shoe rubs the arch of my foot so painfully.I'd suggest buying the ones with the thicker straps.

I had high hopes for these sandals, but my hopes were dashed. I have given them plenty of time to break in and I still cannot get them to maintain adjustments. I am constantly having to adjust them as they tighten up in the toe area. They are just plain uncomfortable and require too much fiddling for my taste. I am sorry I spent this much money on these. I love the look and the footbed but the fit is horrible.

Not sure if these shoes just really can't handle the volume of my foot: I struggled to get my foot into there, I adjusted, repeat, I gave up. I have no idea if these fit me and my high volume feet.

These look comfortable but the toe wrap rubbed my big toe and made it unwearable. They were also kind of clunky looking.

I got the 8 Wide - I usually wear a 39 in brands with a wide toe box, though I have a narrowish heel. I had the toe-strangling problem, sent them back to Chacos for warranty repair, but still couldn’t get them to stay adjusted comfortably for any reasonable period of time. I loved the support of the foot bed, so may try another style (without a toe strap!).

OUCH!!! These shoes continuously clamp down on the big toe to the point of pain. Whether I'm grocery shopping or hiking, I have to stop every 20 minutes to loosen these things up a bit. They never stay loose though!! I have two other friends with the exact same shoe who complain of the exact same problem. So frustrating, and no fix for it that I can figure out!

How to Get Them On -
I have a large foot. I wear a women's size 11. I bought these sandals to hike and wear to school for comfort; I am a teacher. My pair came the very next day that I ordered them. The service at Zappos is great. The only thing was: I COULDN'T GET THEM ON. My big toe could not fit through the little space that this sandal has. So, I sent them back.

Could never get the straps just right. Had to adjust them multiple times a day depending on the weather and how my feet would swell and reduce throughout the day. I fought to get these, and ended up just giving them away a few months later because they were more headache than worth the time and hassel of adjusting them multiple times a day.

These sandals are TERRIBLE. I ordered 2 different sizes to be sure I got the right fit - neither one felt right in the arch. While the toe straps and straps on the top are adjustable I could not get the heel area tight enough to feel secure on my foot. These would be a huge pain to deal with on a daily basis. Even if the straps had worked properly they just weren't comfortable - like walking on a piece of hard plastic. Not impressed. How on earth does it have this many rave reviews???

Sorry this shoe did not work for me as a water shoe. It is very heavy and way too complicated to take on and off quickly. Light and easy to take on and off are two main requirements. I cannot comment on fit because I didn't bother once I saw it and lifted it.

I just got these shoes, but I'm sending them back. The straps are uncomfortable for me, even after adjustment, and the rubber design on the inside bottom pad really hurt my sensitive feet.

I was excited to get my first pair of Chacos. But then when they arrived, I was a bit disappointed. It took several minutes to adjust the straps. Also, when I finally got them on, my feet looked really weird in them. I have wide feet and these were not flattering at all. I sent them back.
