These shoes are incredible. I ordered a pair for myself and my fiance. I ordered the Taos for myself and the Taos II for her. After inspecting both pairs, I noticed two improvements Keen made to the Taos II. They removed a seam in the fabric on the inside heel of the shoe, and the laces are no longer and elastic/bungee material. Both seem to be improvements to me.
We got these shoes to take on an up-coming trip to Europe, but I foresee us wearing them on a day-to-day basis. They are EXTREMELY comfortable.

Pleased with shoe - EXTREMELY pleased with Zappos!
I had to go 1/2 size UP for fit. The size I usually wear (7 1/2) felt tight around the top of my foot (and I do not have a wide foot at all). Even trying to loosen it I still felt like these would not be comfortable in the long run. I really like the look and versatility of the shoe and they serve very well on my feet all day (like at the Zoo last week!). Others have commented on their comfort - no, I do not think they are like walking on clouds but I was not expecting that. They are an excellent shoe with (to me) good support and great versatility. I have had no problems with the "lacing" system. For those who do not like a shoe to cut them a little lower on the ankle, I would say these tend to do that, but it does not bother me. I think you will be very pleased with these shoes! NOW, I am not the first to comment on how amazing customer service is at Zappos, but I wanted to anyway. I got my shoes for Christmas but my parents got them for me in the 7 1/2 size (which as I said felt too small). Unsure of what to do, I called Zappos since I wasn't sure an 8 would fit (I NEVER wear an 8 in anything). Zappos sent me an 8, without taking a credit card number or any type of "collateral" for the additional pair, and they just told me to return whichever one did not fit well. I know I am only one customer, but for a company to send out an extra pair of shoes and trust customers to have the integrity to send one back is a true mark of an outstanding retailer. I have since told many about this simple incident which I know is probably standard protocol at Zappos. Bravo for treating customers well. For the few "bad apples" who might spoil the batch, you have delighted far more and made many fans as a result!

Great shoes, poor fastening -
These shoes are so comfortable that I no longer wear any other brand. The only issue I have with them is the fastening system. The laces, which are elastic, are fastened by a sliding piece of plastic. In two of the pairs I purchased, the piece of plastic didn't work well, resulting in the laces slowly getting loose. Otherwise, they are great!

Keen Taos -
I have now had these for about 6 months, and find I am wearing them most of the time I don't need my work attire. They are perhaps one of the most comfortable shoes I have owned. I normally wear an orthotic, but the arch support here is excellent with my relatively flat feet. The pattern in the sticky rubber soles is one of the best at resisting picking up stones and seeds on the ground that I have seen. My one complaint, a trade-off really, is that the sticky rubber sole, which makes them feel secure on any surface, wears quickly, particularly at the heel. At this rate, I will be surprised if I get more than a year's use from these great shoes.

Beautifully made and handsome (if you like this style) with that great fastening system. For a mostly closed shoe, it's very airy, which is what I wanted. Perhaps it's my feet, or perhaps the shoes are sized a bit narrow, but after two weeks I'm still getting slightly unpleasant abrasion at the little toes, where they rub against one of the cut-outs. The footbed takes some getting used to -- it has an unusual, squishy feel -- but ultimately that's part of what I like. Overall a very good shoe at a good price. And I haven't yet observed (smelled) the problem some others mentioned!

Keen Taos -
I have used these for about a year now, they are very comfortable and durable. I have flat feet and these shoes fit me really well. The only down side to this shoe is, it stinks if you wear them for a while without socks.

Words are deceiving -
After reading the reviews on the Taos, how comfortable they were I decided to purchase a pair, I was market for a pair of sandals, to my surprise, comfort has different meanings. I retired from the Army last yr, so after 20 yrs of using combat boots I believe my feet are sensitive enough to feel the difference between inserts. Looks - Nothing but outstanding, love the rugged look, material and workmanship. First pair of sandals that I can use at the beach, hiking and in the evening just put on a pair of socks and your ready to go semi casual. Comfort, well they need to take another look at the design of the insert. All the reviews and also the ad from Keen, made me to believe that I would be walking on the clouds. My imagination devised a sandal with a rugged design and construction that put on my feet I would not want to take them off. On the contrary, they feel as if I have my hiking boots on, the need for exploration and ingenuity has risen, there are much better insoles in the market, but thats going to cost me a couple of more bucks, also the arch support needs work. Keen should look at the comfort in a Rockport, Nunn's new comfort sole, nike and New Balance, with the feel of any of these I would probably never buy another sandal or hiking boot from no one else again (these sandals have a variety of uses). High end sandals, shoes or boot, need to talk the talk and they better walk the walk, the walk was missing for liking and comfort was missing. At this price, I don't believe I would buy it again, unless the insole is changed.

After wearing combat boots for 20 yrs I believe of having some expertise on the comfort of shoes, for my dogs (common slang for feet)need to be pampered after military retirement. Looks, great loved the rugged look, Comfort well I would not buy these sandals again for this price. When I stepped into the Taos my expectations were to feel the clouds under my feet, what I felt was a little more comfort than the hiking boots that I had just bought three months prior at half the price. Rockports, Nunn's Comfort insole, nike and New Balance have a much better feel to them, also they are hot. Not all is bad, they fit around your foot, the leather and other material used are very comfortable and it has a dual purpose which I also enjoy very much. I can hang around all day, no socks, use for everything and at night but on a pair of socks and go casual, you can't beat this!!!!!

No Taos -
I was torn between the Taos, Boulder and Banff. I'm keeping the Boulder. Here's why; the Taos has neoprene trim around the ankle area. This liner rubs and will undoubtedly create a blister if worn without socks. The insoles are lined with cloth (like a tennis shoe) and will certainly absorb sweat and begin to stink more so than the insoles of the other models. And in general the Taos is more shoe than it is sandal, far too enclosed and too much liner and cloth all over for hot summer days. They look great but don't pass the test.

Great potential, but lacking.
I love Keen and have 2 other pairs which are great. I had high hopes for these as well, but am disappointed. The bottoms are VERY comfortable and plenty of cushion, but the tops tend to "dig in" to my feet more than my other Keens. The biggest drawback is the lack of lateral stability. I run agility with my dog, and planned on using these shoes for that purpose. First agility trial with the new shoes, I went to make a sharp cross, my foot slipped inside the shoe and my toes popped out the side. On the plus side, the traction and cushion were great! I'd love to return them, but, I suppose I could use them for something else. The search for an Agility shoe goes on.
By the way, don't hesitate to order from Zappos! First class all the way!!

Great shoes!!
I really love these shoes. I have several pairs and wear them all the time. They are the most comfortable shoes I own right now and I have many shoes.
