These have been my steady work shoes for 3 years and 3 months. They were comfortable out of the box, but with constant wearing and some conditioning have become uber-comfortable. The original insole gave out within 2 years, but some Dr. Scholl's gel-pads have done well to replace them. At long last I am looking for replacements. The padding that goes around the ankle on these is the weak link. It is not leather, but rather plastic and it is starting to crack and flake away. I think for my next purchase I may get a pair of 1461's that do not have the ankle padding feature. I think these shoes were an excellent value. Overall, I have been extremely pleased with these shoes, with the exception that they eventually wore out. Is it too much to hope for them to last forever?

Like the shoes, however if you are looking for the more original Doc don't go for the butero. Also have the shoes from about 5 years ago and the sizing is marked a size down from was it was then, so think about ordering smaller if you are looking at your old Docs for sizing. Other than that, love the shoes.

Super disappointed with these shoes. The a just over 6 month old and the sole is separating from the shoe (see photo) I have been wearing dr martens for many years and each pair has lasted me 2+ years. I am not sure if the quality is going down or if this was a defective pair but I will not be buying these again!

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent purchase. I've been wearing Docs for years and I love them, well most of them. I wore out a pair of 8053's and I replaced them with a new pair. This time I bought them a size bigger (US 13) because my big toe wore a hole through the top of the old shoe. I have a pair of wingtips 3989 size US 13 and bought a pair of ICON 7B10 STEEL TOE's over the summer US 13. The new 8053's are bigger than both of the other shoes. I hate to turn around and buy another pair of 8053's, but my foot is swimming in the new shoes and as you can see in the picture I can't tighten the laces any more. I wish a the sizes were true across all the styles. Very frustrating!

After several months of having these shoes the soles have started to split down the length of both shoes. The cheap plastic rim where your foot goes into the shoe has been pealing away since the first couple of weeks. The quality of these shoes aren’t worth the price anymore. I would not recommend.

This was my first pair of Dr. Martens shoes. They are as comfortable as they appear, broke in very quickly and are very well constructed. I wear them a lot and it seems like they are up to the task.

I work at a large, somewhat conservative, software company and wear these in the office with casual pants. Love them! They are about as well built as you can get. Beware, they definitely run large. I usually wear 11 1/2-12. Here I went with UK 10/US 11 and it fits just right. I haven't worn an 11 since high school- and I don't think I'm shrinking.

Yes, the shoes are okay. They're not the quality of the Vintage line, but with sole insert replacements they work out okay. The tread does wear out fast. I get less than a year out of them working on concrete. For summer shoes, I choose Dr. Martens, for winter boots, I choose Wolverine. Works for me.

I've had these for about 10 months now. I must say the comfort has never been as good as my previous Doc. Martens. The cheap plastic upper comfort bans has lost its finish and looks super cheezy. About what you'd expect from a fake pair of Doc Martens. Oh well.

These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever bought. I work on my feet all day and I would not buy any other shoe.

This shoe lives up to the hype. Great style and a comfortable walker. Many reviews claim they're comfortable out of the box but trust me, give them the time they deserve to break in properly, you won't be disappointed. Heading to Rome in a few weeks and I plan to put these beauties thru their paces.

First of all people, not everyone has or cares about your wide foot. God, half the revirews here are so annoying with this "I have a wide foot" crap. Good for you. Congratulations on your troll foot. Keep it to yourselves.Anyway, these are awesome. I keep a pair for home and for work. In an industrial setting, they'll last you a bit over a year at least. I recomend them, however...as they wear, you'll end up needing a thicker insole, as there isn't a ton of room where you draw the laces together and they'll end up touching as the leather loosens, creating a looser (but not intolerable) fit. Insole provided in worthless anyway.

Very comfortable. Nice style for casual dress. Great for someone who walks a lot at work or is on your feet all day. Great price.

These are a little wider in the heel and forefoot than the ones I bought in 2005, which is fine with me. I've been looking for something more comfortable and better made than this shoe, but I ended up buying a second pair of the 8053. Even if they're not perfect, they just look great.

I have 2 pairs of this shoe, both purchased ten years ago. One pair I have worn regularly and the other less often to keep it looking nice. They are still going strong and I just bought a pair for my husband. They are very versatile and with the help of some balsam will look great for a long time. And of course they are super comfortable and just get better over time.

This shoe is the best kitchen shoe I have ever had, but I'm not happy to see where they're made. My shoe size is 12 in the U.S., so I went with 10 in U.K., and they fit like a glove. I love them so far after two months. I will give them the test of time and see if they hold up.

In the photo for this review there is a size 13 Docs shoe next to a size 13 Vibram Fivefingers (well its Vibram's size 47 which they say is 13). The fivefingers fits me perfectly and the docs are huge even with very thick socks. Also the lateral stabilty of these docs shoes is nowhere near as good as the docs combs boots. I test the inherent stability of any shoe design by simply placing it on a firm level surface and pressing downward at 45 deg to normal on inside of the heel cup. These shoes tipped right over but the combs boots didn't. The semi clear PVC sole is the reason I bought these in the first place as they are really nice in the boots. Apart from the tilt and size issues they look expensive and I'm almost certain will have better general social acceptance than the five fingers esp in causual work environments.

Nice style, comfortable (as long as you're not walking for more than 4 hours). The right shoe is a little tight.

I have bought these since the mid 90's. The UK made were excellent. The Vietnamese made were about a 7 out of 10. This last pair is now made in China. The quality is poor. The leather is very very thin. The fit is different and the sole has weird bulges in them. The insole is cheap plastic that squeaks and makes your feet hot. My trusty work boots are no more after all these years. I can no longer recommend these boots.

This is my third pair of DM's and my favorite so far because the insole is removable for orthotics and improves the fit, which is roomy with little arch support. A woman's 7 fits more like a 71/2 so fine with a light wool sock and orthotics. I can't wear the regular style without the padded collar because it slips off my narrow heel. As always, DM's are a bit clunky and heavy, but still the best shoes for walking miles on city sidewalks. They are a bit stiff at first, but I'm sure they'll soften up like my other pairs which I bought in the UK. I love the classic style, which has suited me from my teen years to middle age. My only criticism is one insole came out easily (just tacked on lightly) but the other one had so much glue that a chunk of foam got stuck and ruined the foam backed leather insole. However, I was able to scrape out most of the remainder that stuck inside the shoe. This isn't a big problem since I plan to wear them with orthotics.
I'd also recommend:
Other brands that fit wide toe & narrow heel: Adidas, Soloman, Pikolinos ankle boots but not shoes.

I have had these shoes for 3 1/2 years and they have held up fantastic! These are very good quality and very comfortable. It took a very little amount of time to break them in.

This is the 5th pair of these shoes that I've purchased from Zappos. The last pair lasted 5 years of daily use. I just had to get another pair. These shoes are great for work, they are comfortable, and they last for ever. The soles are rubberized, so they don't leave black scuffs everywhere.

These have a fantastic look and fit! They are great shoes for the restaurant I run. I find that they grip in almost everything that I may walk through. I would certainly recommend. They are dressy enough for my position yet highly functional and comfortable. They are outstanding!
