I always buy Sperry boat shoes. Your boat shoes always had good padding. Recently I ordered the Authentic original boat shoe, product number 195412 (order W1050765764). I could not believe there was hardly any padding and sadly it was like walking bare foot. I bought some odor eaters to add to the padding....it hardly made any improvement. I decided to start using my used Sperry boat shoes, which still feel great. What happened?

I have had this specific shoe brand/model for decades. The pair sent to me by Zappos was of lesser quality and poor workmanship than past versions of this shoe. IMO, the leather was stiffer, cheaper, and not as soft as previous version. But the workmanship was just bad. The right shoe's "last" was cut different than the left. It really felt like I was wearing 2 different size shoes. You could literally see the difference. O where has the QC gone? Done with Sperry.
I'd also recommend:

I have worn Topsiders for 50 years. They make 3 shoe styles, in 3 versions of Brown that come in a narrow width. Why? Because the bean-counters tell them not enough people buy other colors. How would you know? You have NEVER made more than 3 colors. No problem making 3-Eye or Plushwave or Rivingston or Authentic Original or Gold Cup model shoes but do not make a regular old Topsider boat shoe in a Narrow width in Black or Blue or Red or Grey or Orange or Purple or maybe a Narrow Gold Cup.
You make me feel like a sucker for liking and buying the few shoes you make in a narrow width. I am so tired of Brown. How can I rate for style/ I can't fit any other Sperry Topsider.
There was no "online" when I first bought these shoes.

Within months of purchasing the shoes, and breaking them in, the stitches on the right shoe in the front broke through the sole. They are now irreparable because the shoe repair shops say that they lack the machine to make the repair, and even if they could get the soles (they cannot) the repair for the single shoe would be as costly as a new pair of shoes.

Laces broke after 1 month. No way to replace because they are tied into the shoe. Have had many pairs of sperry and this had never happened.

I ordered the widest shoes offered and the stitching on the side of the shoes blew out in two weeks. Sperry should tell people that their shoes run narrower than most.

I want to add my voice to those who say that Sperry shoes have greatly deteriorated. I too had the old top siders that lasted for year. Then recently I reordered - same size, same with - and I got a shoe that didn't fit and that was of lesser quality. Good luck selling slippers to the millennials. I will not be back. I also see that in the replies the company says "We stand by our product" - what does that mean when everybody is saying its a gotten so much worse?

This is nowhere near a 9W even though it is labeled that way. Either there is something wrong with QC or it is a woman's 9W

I have had and enjoyed many pairs of sperry boat shoes. I usually have 3 pairs on hand, an every day pair, a go on the bat pair and a go to dinner pair. This last pair of sperry boat shoes are not the same as the ones I have had over the years. This pair appears to be cheaply made and are uncomfortable so I rarely wear them. The shoes are made differently from the left foot to the right foot and don't have the same shape. I have been very disappointed in this pair of shoes and will be hesitant to purchase another pair once I wear out the ones I already have.

The worst. Uncomfortable. Stiff. The most over-rated shoe ever. Ended up donating them. Got Allbirds instead.

I recently bought a pair of these shoes as I had wore my previous Sperry boat shoes out. Man, was I disappointed with my purchase. What has happened to the quality of this shoe? I've had numerous pairs of these boat shoes over the years and the quality and fit have been excellent. I've had my latest pair of "wide" shoes for a couple of months now hoping they would break in, but every time I wear them I get blisters on my little toes from the stiff leather. In addition, the insoles have already come unglued. In the past, I paid up for this brand of boat shoes. I'm not sure I will continue to do that with the decline in quality.

Sperry Topsiders used to be a very reliable (if expensive) choice. No longer. There is a leather insole that never used to cause any problem, but now that leather seems to be of a lower quality; it no longer stays shiny and clean. BUT ... the worse problem is that the insole further down, under the toes is of a different material and it is all underlain by some goofy 'cushiony' stuff that's probably intended to make the shoes more comfortable for walking around but is just bunches up under the toes and makes the shoes really unsuitable for anything. Also, the elaborate (and necessary) detailed stitching, where the upper/tongue is attached to the sides is gone; just a couple of loops of stitching now. Such a disappointment. When it was a smaller company, they made a perfect product. Now they're a subsidiary of a subsidiary and they have completely lost their way. Lots of styles and colours now. Great. Couldn't they have continued to offer the originals unmodified? Boo for mega-corps, mergers, and acquisitions.

I've been wearing Sperry Top-Siders since the 1980's. They were always my favorite shoe, most comfortable and lasted years. I purchased a pair about a year ago and to my surprise they wore out very quickly and never were very comfortable. I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I was going to purchase another pair. I came to this website and read the many other reviews about the decline in quality which confirms the experience I had with my last pair. Based on my last pair and the comparable reviews I have decided not to purchase another pair. Time to find a different quality shoe. Sperry, please bring back the quality we were all use to!

I have had my first pair for over seven years, and I have worn them everywhere. They were still intact but but in thought it was time for a fresh pair. I have purchased two pairs in the past 7 months and the soles have torn on both of them. These do not seem like the same shoes that I bought in the past. I am very displeased and disappointed.

Ordered Extra Wide but they were very narrow. Return is difficult for me due to health issues so I may get stuck with these. Other than the misleading width they're great looking shoes!

I bought these fairly recently, and was disappointed with the quality. They lasted me 3-4 months of casual wear indoors (about 3 times a week) before the laces got too soft to stay tied, shoes got filthy even with conditioning and waterproofing and inner sole came off.
I had previously bought a pair that lasted me ~4 years and several thousand miles, but these only made it 4 months. I won't be buying sperry again.

I've only had the shoes for a month, and the outsole is staring to tear apart from the shoe. I've owned pairs sperry shoes before, and they have lasted for 3 or 4 years without any major thing happening. I am very dissatisfied with the product I purchased.

I love these shoes but after two weeks they're already falling apart which is pretty ridiculous. The last pair of Sperry's I had lasted me 8 years and can still be worn. This (more expensive) pair lasted two weeks and the stitching has fallen out on one shoe and the other has come apart at the toe. Sperry's are my go-to shoe in the spring/summer but I can't justify buying another pair if this the quality of the shoe.
