Nice shoe. Very good quality. It was a bit heavy for my use and its arch support was not adequate. When i used my own orthodic to remedy the arch the combo became too hot for my feet. Also, very stiff and not flexible enough.

Stiff soled shoe that feels very solid. I love Salomon's lace tie. All the plastic/siding rubbed my foot, but I have seemed to broken it in quickly. I walk around on the street a bit and I think these will take some punishment.

I love these shoes but sent them back because the toe box is too narrow, even in a D width. I can't wait for a redesign! I wish I could find new-old stock for this shoe from 5 years ago.

Excellent, light all-purpose shoe. Two minor issues, both can probably be resolved with new insoles. 1. The top of the shoe rubs the underside of my ankle. It doesn't hurt, but it gets irritating after a few hours. 2. The arch of the insole doesn't match up with the arch of my foot.
So I think I'll get a set of high-quality insoles to solve both problems.
The question about arch support below gives me three choices, none of which apply. My answer is that the arch support would be correct if it was located under the arch of my foot.

These are nicely made shoes and looked perfect for my use; however, they did not fit my feet correctly. I generally have a B -C width but these felt too narrow and slipped in the heel at the same time. Well made but I had to return because of a poor fit for me.

These were the best looking hiking shoes I could find. I was extremely disappointed when I put them on and immediately knew the width was the problem. I have a wide foot, so it's always hit or miss, even with a size marked "wide." Unfortunately, this Salomon shoe was a miss and was not wide enough. It is the only reason for the low rating.

I normally wear a 10½ in running shoes. I do not usually need wide shoes, but I do need a little more width in the toe box for comfort (my forefoot is relatively square). Knowing this I ordered a wide. When I received them, there was nothing on the box or shoe that obviously labeled them as wide. I thought that I got the the normal width. When I called Zappos, I was assured that I did get the wide but the customer service representative also could not tell me of any labels that would designate a wide. I was able to determine later that M+ is the wide designation. I did get the right shoe, but unfortunately, even the wide is too narrow and had to return them. I tried them around the house. I like the style, laces, support and general comfort of the shoes. I could just feel the snugness in the big and pinky toe that I knew would be a problem on the trail. The length was accurate.

This is still a good shoe but not as comfortable as the ones I purchased a few years ago. The new fully integrated tongue seems to squeeze despite purchasing a wide and keeping the laces loose.

These ran a little large on me, so my heel pops up a little in the back. The "wire laces" are a little troublesome. You can either tie everything tight or loose (not the front tight but the back loose, etc.).

I have used a pair of Salomon boots for quite a while and they are the best boots I've ever worn. So I decided I'd try these. I chose these because they're the only shoes with a wide width. They are a lot more narrow than I had hoped, but seem to have stretched some. Other than that issue, they're very comfortable, after getting used to the arch support. I like the speed lace and their is good heel support.

Excellent shoes. I like the fast system for tightening shoes. It takes some creativity to bind the strings so the toe box remains loose while the ankle area is tight, but it can be done. Only concern is that the insole bunched up after the shoe became soaked. I was likely to use a different insole anyway, so not a huge problem. Tongue is very comfortable. Tread was fairly sticky to rocks, which I liked. Toe and sides provide good protection when hitting rocks or getting pinched between boulders.

I wanted these to work but they rubbed the outer edges of pinky toe in a noticeable and uncomfortable way. The hard plastic in the toe box is the cause. I went up a half size proactively but it wasn't enough and any larger would compromise overall fit. I own a pair of Salomon Speed Cross, which are great. These fit similarly but are stiffer with built in structural support; some might prefer that. There's no convenient way to store the quicklace grip, which means it flips around and hits the ground as you walk. The best solution I considered was to tuck it under another lace further down toward the toes. Wish these had worked out for me.

Elite Review -
Hi, I am a very seasoned 29yo hardcore trail runner. I am 5'11", 165lbs.
My review will be based mainly on the type of terrain I normally run in.
I am a desert jackrabbit. I run in the Sonoran Desert. If you are familiar with this desert you will know how rugged and aggressive this terrain can be. You got all kinds of hilly, rocky, sandy terrain. And plenty of lose gravel, washes, sharp rocks, lose marble rocks, the whole works.
These shoes, while definitely and decidedly very well designed and constructed, lack only one thing in my opinion:
A little extra sturdiness and/or more cushioning wouldn’t hurt.
You can mildy resent sharp rocks on the sole if you are not careful where you step and how you step.
I have an old pair (year 2000) of RBK DMX trail runners and they protect you much better from sharp rocks under your feet.
One big plus about these XA PRO 3D is that they are stable as hell. I am a person who has a tendency to roll my ankles if not wearing the proper shoe and not watching how I step. These shoes have passed my stringent stability tests and I recommend them.
If you have wide feet you will have a bit of a trouble getting the proper size/fit because these shoes are most designed for narrow feet (like me).
They fit snug like gloves and your really feel protected in them except for the lack of sole sturdiness I just mentioned.
These shoes also are extremely responsive and handle all types of terrain changes efficiently.
The traction is excellent. Very comfortable and light.
If Salomon were listening I would strongly suggest you guys add a little more cushioning and these shoes will be unsurpassable!
Too bad Salomon doesn’t seem a very customer inclined company because it is very hard if not impossible to get a hold of anyone in an easy, hassle-free manner.

Great shoe -
This shoe is probably the best I have ever owned. I hardly notice any type of shock when wearing them. The heel feels great, I have had no problems with the arch support, the toe area is snug while not squeezing. The shoe has so far proved to supply ample traction and anything but ice and even then they are as good as my "Neos" overshoes with cleats. Buy them, you will love them.
I'd also recommend:
The XCR of the same shoe, but it is not as wide.

Light shoe and a nice fit. Could use more support in the arch.

I love this shoe... I did 5 weeks of orienteering (cross-country) competitions this summer in Europe and ran on very very ruff terrain... the shoe gripped on bare rock... was comfy enough to run on road...
But after the 5 weeks I noticed that the sole started delaminating... Salomon has put in a plastic plate to make the shoe a little more rigid but the rubber sole does not stay attached to it...
This has also happened to a friend of mine but maybe it’s because we were very hard on them…
Other then that this is the best shoe around!

Excellent trail runners -
These are an excellent trail running shoe if you're looking for a little stability, excellent traction on all surfaces, and comfort. My only wish is that Salomon would manufacture these with variable widths, as the toe box is not well-suited to wide feet.

Will probably purchase another pair of the XA Pro 3D to change everyday. I walk trail (mostly grass and dirt) averaging 6-10 miles a day. Shoes were a little narrower than I expected, could be because I use orthotics. However one of the most comfortable I have owned. Shoe lace system is fabulous and keeps feet very secure on hilly and side hill terrain. Would recommend they come in a little wider size though. They are starting to shred a little due to walking in weeds etc. I am extremely hard on sneakers. However I would recommend this shoe.

Great Running Shoe -
I have enjoyed the shoe so far; it has a good feel and wraps your foot like a sock. The lace system is very good; I don't think I can go back to conventional laces now. The only fault in the shoe is the top of the tongue. It needs to be a little wider on top. So, that gives the shoe an overall 4 Stars.

Disapointed -
The look of the shoe is great but the fit was a bit narrow. I had some fairly significant lateral foot pain that I don't have with a slightly wider shoe and toe box.

I have had similar Salomon shoes before and loved them. I particularly like the quick laces which make them so easy to get on and off. Unfortunately soon after starting to wear these I got a very sore side of my foot. On investigation there seems to be stitching on the inside of the shoe right on the side of my foot which is not ideal. There should be some kind of padding on the inside to stop this from happening.
