This boot has the same comfortable fit as the Vasque Breeze and is a perfect match when you need boots for two different seasons. The Wasatch is very waterproof and with a light coating of Mink oil to seal the leather it dries instantly. The traction is aggressive and stable. It walks just as easy on beach sand as it does on granite slabs and is stable enough to keep you from snapping your ankles on deep skree. I ordered the Wasatch and Breeze at 1 size larger than a standard shoe so that my toes do not touch the front of the shoe when laced up snug. This is done to keep from having extreme toe pain and/or losing your toenails when going downhill for several miles. The Wasatch is a true classic Vasque fit with a roomy front interior and a great heel cup that keeps your heel comfortably in place, therefore eliminating blisters. Minor break in time is needed just to form the waterproof leather to your heel, ankle and upper arch. That took a bout 1 Mile of walking and re-adjusting my laces and it was a perfect fit and all-day comfort. I always upgrade the insole to Superfeet insoles to finish the fit.

Vasque Wasatch GTX - If you have wide feet and like lots of toe box room, the fit of the Wasatch is great. The problem is that in 30 years of hiking, and most of them in Vasque boots, I have never had a pair of boots that was so slippery--particularly on rocks. I put a lot of mileage on my boots, and the first pair worked fine. With the new ones I have fallen twice. I hiked in the same place, with the same conditions, in a pair of Keens, with no problem. I am giving up on these boots.

I bought my last pair of Vasques about 15 years ago. They served me well, but age brings spreading feet and a new pair was called for. The shoe size appears correct for my foot size. Preliminary results indicate a comfortable fit with no pinch points. I wore them for about 2 hours around the house before committing to keep them. I then wore them for 22 hours straight on a trip to Europe with no discomfort. Next up, a mountain adventure!

Vasque Quality/comfort Problems - I am about 6'1'' and 200 lbs. First Boots were defective. Felt comfortable initially but after wearing them they hurt top of my foot. Left one smaller than right one volume wise with a full 1/4" less leather over the front of the shoe and the tongue was twisted up with bad sowing. Exchanged the shoes and then the second pair did not have the same problems, but different problems. They had a very minor leak under the front toes and killed my arch in one shoe after about 30 minutes of walking because the one shoe was not made properly and forced the arch to hang out outside of the sole. As an added note, bought these at Jesse browns, not Zappos. They do not seem to want to take care of me, so I am looking for boots at Zappos. Poor quality control and would not recommend.

This boot gives me a great feeling of security for my feet. They definitely need a progressive break-in period before serious use. The foot portion of the boot was a great fit from the beginning. The ankle took more time. I'm not sure if this is caused by the inside seam that is right at the ankle.

Great boots! Great service on ordering them. Am a forester so they get hard use. Have started a fad among peers with this boot.

This review is mostly about fit. The boots are of very high quality but others have already said that. I have a difficult foot, wide and very high instep, E or EE and the high instep makes me usually look for a 4E (H) and no hiking boots come in these sizes that I have found. But the Wasatch has the best room for my feet of any boot I have tried. The Lowa Renegade are a close second. So if you have a fit problem like mine, the Wasatch are a good bet.

I've had these boots for two years now and wear them hiking at least twice per month. From the moment I put them on the very first time, they felt like a dream. I have never had a blister or any discomfort at all (and I have a high arch). Nor have I ever had wet feet. The boots have held up well and show very little wear. I anticipate having and wearing these boots for many years to come.

Very happy with the fit and performance of these boots. I wear 4E in New Balance and the wide version of the Wasatch fit great. Wear them for work as a landscaping contractor and so far so good. A coat of Nikwax and you’re good to go!

I hike California's mountain and high desert areas on a regular basis. Accordingly, over the years, I have owned a variety of hiking boots and clearly, some have performed much better than others. All things considered, I have found the Vasque Wasatch GTX boots to be my all time favorites. They wear well, feel good, and protect my feet as advertised. I liked my current pair so well, when I thought the boots were going off market, I upped my recent Zappos order to nab the remaining two sets of GTXs.

I bought these for my husband b/c he had a pair from this brand before and loved them. He wears a size 13 and a lot of shoes are too narrow for him. This shoe in a 13 normal width fits him great. Very true to size and he says VERY comfortable! They look great too!

I was looking for a good waterproof boot for backpacking. As far as I’m concerned, a waterproof "membrane" inside the liner is pointless, since it allows the majority of the boot to get saturated with heavy water and mud. This narrowed my selection to boots that have waterproof uppers. I ordered this boot and the North Face Jannu GTX. I immediately ruled out the North Face boot upon arrival because the tongue was too short - when I tied it tightly, the knot would slip over the top of the tongue, then up against my shin. So there was that ridiculous flaw, plus the fact that the boot was way too roomy. Back to the Vasque. This boot is well constructed, with clean lines and tight seams, excellent ankle support and a rigid sole. These boots certainly aren’t as cozy soft as a pair of Keens, but when I have an extra 50 lbs on my back, I appreciate the support. The rubber toecap will help this boot last a while. I can’t really comment on the insoles because I replaced them with custom orthotics, as I do with all shoes. It’s worth noting that this boot has a roomy toebox.

They are great I love em - So far so good! I put them on and they were very comfortable out of the box. They have broken in and are still very comfortable. I wore them out in the pouring down rain at night on a hike about 2 miles round trip and my feet were the only dry part of my body. Oh yeah and it was right after Christmas so it was cold and my feet were still warm. So far so good. JD

I bought these shoes for a New Years trip to London. We expect to do a lot of walking in rainy British weather and to break them in, I've been wearing them around our upstate New York winter. They are comfortable, warm, and appear to be winter-proof. I would recommend this shoe highly.

Great Purchase - This boot is worth every penny it costs. I have been buying this boot for 3 years and am very impressed with the quality and comfort. The ankle support allows me to resume hiking and walking without the normal pain I suffered from with other boots/shoes.

I also buy the black Vasque boots Zappos carried and they are great also.

The Cadillac of Hiking Boots - I bought these while hiking in Acadia National Park (hence 'Cadillac' word play). I had a pair of Garmonts that I liked before, and was going to stick with that brand until the sales person had me try these on. These are far more comfortable. I tend to need wider shoes, I got these in a medium width and they are perfect. Perfect build. Lightweight. Breath. As long as they make these I will buy them as needed, which I think will not be too frequently!

Envy of the mountain goats... I purchased the Vasque Wasatch GTX boots a month before a trip to Glacier National Park in July 2006. I wore them several times before the trip but did not give them the full break-in I thought they should have. It did not matter because the boots performed wonderfully for over 30 miles of rocky up and down hiking with heavy pack and day pack. My feet usually blister no matter what I do, but I did not have one hot spot. I will buy Vasque again, particularly from Zappos!

My husband loves these boots! He's owned another pair of Vasque boots before these and wore them almost every day for five years. These new boots have some improved features including more ankle support and better waterproofing without being too heavy. They're a good investment.

Still one of the best brands - I still have a pair of Vasque Skywalker 11 boots that I bought around 1985. They are still in great shape but my climbs are getting longer and tougher and my foot really needed a wider shoe (the Skywalkers are 10 1/2 M). I bought the Wasatch GTX (10 W) and I am extremly pleased with the fit and construction. The toe rand really helps against abrasion and the ankle protection is also great for rock hopping. This is an all around great boot for day hikes and overnighters and will probably be with me for quite a long time.

If you need wide like me the only running shoe you should buy is New Balance

After ten months in Afghanistan, these boots are holding up pretty nicely. I am in these boots 15 hours out of the day. Great for patrols. Only issues I have are the soles are starting to crack and the rubber around the top of the big toe are starting to peal apart. Great in the rain and mud. Great here in Afghanistan. Would definitely get for next deployment.

I love these boots as they get broken in more and more. I use thick socks for best comfort and fit. These things are beefy, and I find I do not want to take them off when getting home. I am very pleased.
