The best pair of hiking boots I have ever owned. The grip these have on the ground is outstanding, they are light weight and keep my feet completely dry. Very Happy with them

These hiking boots are very comfortable. I did an eight mile hike in them right away. They are wide enough for my wide toe box and cushy around the ankle. I ordered wides and they are perfect!

Great for wide feet! My feet didn't survive two pregnancies, and my old hiking boots were way too narrow. (My feet were never that narrow to begin with anyway!) I bought these boots based on some online recommendations for a 4-day backpacking trip in the Sierras. I wore them around the house a bit before the trip, but I didn't have a chance to fully break them in. Nervously, I packed sheets of moleskin and duct tape, but I'm very happy to report that I had absolutely no problems at all slogging up/down the mountain with a 35lb pack. They were incredibly comfortable. They are very, very wide (good for me) but snug enough in the heel that I was able to lace them appropriately so that my toes didn't hit the front on the downhills. As with most shoes, I replaced the insoles with something like SuperFeet, and they were great.

I love the Montrail Torre! It was comfy right out of the box. I love that they have great ankle support and that is very important to me. There is also plenty of room in the toe box which is also important to me. I have arthritis and finding good comfortable shoes is not easy. But these fit the bill. I will definitely enjoy getting some hiking miles on these boots!

A fine hiking shoe with great ankle support -
I discovered this boot after years of having to wear an ankle brace when hiking. I hesitated to spend the money on a pair of shoes, but it's been worth every penny--one ankle has been injured so often that it's weak, and I never thought I'd be able to hike without a brace. But I can with this shoe: when my ankle starts to roll, the ankle support contains it.
The wide width is sufficiently wide for my wide foot with slight bunions, the ankle support is excellent, and they're pretty water resistant. Only minus point: when walking in the wet or snow, the cold eventually creeps in.

They were a gift for my girlfriend. She said she love them. Best boots she ever had. Good size and warm, yet easy to walk with since she has weak ankles from sickness...

GREAT HIKER!
Have had this boot for 2 years now! Wears VERY well. For the D width, you have LOTS of room! I'll be getting another pair this spring...had a short break in period and has saved my ankle more than once! Great with one pair of socks or two.

Solid hiker -
This is a great boot. Montrail makes great products-- I have been wearing their Approach shoes and boots almost exclusively for about six years to do some backpacking and a great number of long, strenuous day hikes (10-18 miles at 8,000-14,000ft). Their boots and shoes have great durability and relatively quick break-in, with terrific comfort.
However, although some testers say you can hike in this product straight out of the box, I do recommend a break-in period. I needed to wear them straight out of the box, due to some stolen boots, and I definitely had some blisters after a nine mile day hike with several thousand feet of climbing and descending. I expected it, but don't be fooled by reviewers who didn't have a single blister on the first day of wear!
I'd also recommend:
Other Montrail approach shoes, if you like lower cut, lighter weight. Vasque boots.

The most comfortable, foot conforming, mid weight I have ever used. Molds to the contours of your foot. By far the best boot I have ever invested in.

Great Boots!!!
This boot offers excellent support for feet & ankles...the right choice for the more rough & rugged trails. It did run small...my usual size is 7 wide, but I needed an 8 wide in these.

I have purchased these boots in the past and they are very comfortable and contour to your foot quickly and are very easy to wear. I would recommend and have to my friends.

Good boots -
I tried on 8-12 pairs of hiking boots before I found these. I have a narrow heel and a wide toe area, so it is very hard to find something that fits. They required very little break in time for me, but they are fairly stiff, so I can see how people might need a little time to break them in. I have had them for almost three years and wear them all the time. I am a dog walker and go hiking 2-3 times a week. They also keep my feet very warm in the winter.

vasque is nice, much narrower though

Montrail OK -
A bit stiff at first, but they fit my wide feet! Wore them for a week before hiking in Yosemite snow, feet kept warm and dry. Like them!

Very nice boot - walked all over Scotland in it -
This is a fine boot that will take a bit of breaking in, as most hiking boots do. However it is NOT completely waterproof so if you need something that is, I would look elsewhere. BUT - it took a whole lot of Scottish rain in a very deep grass Scottish field to get my feet wet, so if that's not your usual venue, you'll be fine. Well made and nice to look at, I would definitely recommend this boot. Thanks Zappos!

More comfortable than usual hiking book, needing little break-in time but also perhaps a little heavy.

Montrail Torre GTX -
A great hiking boot that can be used for long hikes as well as day hikes. Lots of room in the toe box. I tried it on at a store before I bought on Zappos, and I needed a half size larger than my usual size. Definitely make sure your toes don't hit the front of the toe box when you walk down an incline (try this before you make a decision about the fit) to avoid blisters and bumps. Since it's all leather should last a long time. Overall a great boot at a great price.

Great boot -
Great hiking boot. I put on 6-20 miles per week. As with most hiking boots I threw out the insole and replaced it with one made for hiking and with more support such as Shock Doctor or Sure Feet. I have a slightly narrow foot but need a normal width toe box. The regular width was perfect. I only wish I had purchased a second pair before the went up in price.

My daughter purchased this boot several months ago and inadvertently lost one of them. She was absolutely and completely disappointed and sick because she had paid $150 for them and found them to be a great boot. Along came Zappos.com w/the exact same boot for $50 less! This is a terrific boot and Zappos.com is a wonderful site to deal with.

Wonderful boot!
This was love at first sight with reservervations until I tried them on. Once I got them on my feet, it was, "Ah, yes!" These boots are very well made, with wonderful arch support for my high arches and excellent support all around, without being stiff. They were very comfortable from the first moment. I had ordered two pairs of boots prior to this and had to return them. One was Sketchers, which I did not like at all. The other was Active Alaska by CAT. This was a very good boot, attractive and comfortable. The only problem was the lack of arch support. I bought a pair of Vasque hiking boots 30 years ago and loved them. So far, I love the Montrails even more and no doubt will for the next 30 years.

Heavy shoe and definitely stiff, especially the ankle support. Plenty of toe room. Looks great, but I’ll have to send them back.

Great but not wide -
Ordered these boots as the reviews said they were true to width - I'd have to disagree. If you truly have a wider foot, these are not the boots for you - my size D feet are simply pinched in this boot! Otherwise, if you've got a regular width foot, they would be an awesome boot!

Clunky, but a good feel -
Ordered a wide boot to accommodate my need for a wide toe box. Have to lace pretty tight to keep my heel from sliding and sometimes the tongue gets wrinkled and needs to be adjusted from time to time. The bottoms of the soles are a bit slick on wet rocks right now, but feel these will become more adhesive with wear and roughing over time. Love the design of the eyelets and how they seem to "lock in" with lacing. Like the clunky look and appreciate the wide sizing. Overall a pretty good hiking boot. As a meter reader in New Hampshire's north country, they suit me well.

Bought these in a Women's 7.5 wide to replace the second pair of Lowa Renegade GTX's that I wore out (before that I wore Vasque boots). Right out of the box, the Montrails are not as comfortable as the Lowas were, although they're not bad. The Montrails are a little heavier, and they tend to give me a sore, bruised-feeling spot in the ball of one foot after a few miles. No problems with blisters, but I'm using these only for day hikes, not real treks, and am very careful to always wear the best hiking socks I can find, thick and made out of wicking yarns like wool or Thorlo, not cotton. The treads on these boots seem to have fairly good traction. I have a wide forefoot and normal-to-narrow heel; the heel fits me well, but the forefoot doesn't feel much wider than a standard-width boot. Can't comment on durability yet since I've only done about 30 miles in them so far (FYI, I got about 700 miles out of each pair of Lowas). All in all, I'd probably go for the Lowas next time, or might try a pair of Asolos.

Roomy for a wide -
Wow! A hiking boot that comes in wide and has a narrow heel. As other reviewers commented, it is roomy for a D width. It will also accommodate a somewhat high instep. Sadly, it isn't wide enough for a full EE width.
