Heavy runner's point of view- I am a heavy runner (210#), who runs about 3 xs per week, this shoe has held up well, very comfortable and looks great. I chose the 2e as they tend to run a little wide (normally I wear 4e). Great shoe overall...

587 and Dickies - I'm on my third pair of these kicks. I've been rocking the 587 with Dickies slacks for the last few years and the look is nice. For you serious people, the shoe is very comfortable but I wouldn't recommend taking it serious as an athletic shoe--too high center of gravity and too little structure--but man does it look good with my Dickies!

I ordered these in a Narrow but they are not very narrow, especially forward, enough that when laced securely the mesh area creases slightly. Also I think the style is "proven" but a little dated, but then so am I. Otherwise they are a comfortable supportive walking all-around shoe, and my orthotics fit well in lieu of the spongy insoles provided. Not impressive for the price, but adequate.

I walk a lot, and tend to have problems with my feet. These shoes offer the best support of any shoe I've ever used. They're amazing. I'm not a fan of the way they look, but that's subjective, and you can make your own decisions on that from the photos. Also, they don't have any leather in them. I'm taking a trip to India, and want to be able to have a leather free wardrobe, so that was helpful to me as well.

Really comfortable and neutral enough that I can wear to work with jeans on occasion. I don't use these for running so I can't offer a review on that, but they do offer a lot of cushion. However, I don't know if it would be enough side support for a serious runner.

Best price I could find on these particular shoes. The were just as advertised and a very good running shoe for lower arches.

The shoe appears to be very well designed and constructed with excellent heel, arch and ankle fit and comfort. For a B width however, the toe box width and volume is overly generous in size and requires two pair of athletic socks to fill out the space.

Great Walking Shoes - I have been using this shoe for years. They are one of a very few running/walking shoes that come in a very wide size (4E). They fit great and last for hundreds of miles.

Much larger than expected - In Brooks I wear a 9.5 2e. I tried ordering 9 2e based on reviews stating these run large. The shoe was much wider than the 9.5 Brooks may have to try these in 8.5 2e. I wear orthodics so I need a removable insert and the extra width. The distance between the two sides on the laces was also very narrow so there is not a lot of room to tighten.

New Balance M587 - As with all NB athletic shoes, these are well-engineered. They are everything I was looking for (as usual) EXCEPT, the men's 587 only comes in this darker combination of colors. I'd like to see them offered in a mainly white shoe. Other than that, they are perfect.

Great shoe - I like the New Balance stability line of shoes. This model seems to be as good as previous orders I have placed but at a lower cost. I would have ordered the same model but it is no longer offered. This model is a more than acceptable substitute.

New Balance M587 - True to size - plenty of room for my wide foot and high instep, with enough support for my flat feet and at 6'3" and 280 too.

Very nice shoe, but... I did a lot of research before I bought this shoe and I think it's great for supinators, but it runs wide as others have stated. I love the room it has for my toes, but there is too much room in the heel area. I've kept them since they're so great otherwise (and it doesn't bother my foot), but this is something to keep in mind.

NB-M-587 - A good cross trainer type shoe but somewhat narrow and for my wide foot. I purchased a 4E, but needed a 5E. Wish New Balance would have a larger selection in 5E width...

This shoe is way overpriced. The workmanship/design is a bit of an embarrassment. The shoe rolls in and the toe points outward when a step is taken. The laces are quite slippery and will not stay tied. The shoes are a little wide, but the toe is pleasingly boxy. I bought the N width and kept them, although I am quite disappointed. One with narrow feet has few options in available footwear.

I only bought these due to the fact that New Balance screwed up and "updated" (read ruined) the 1123 with the 1540. These are the closest I can find to the 1123 in terms of stability and support. While these do provide some support, they are not as supportive as the 1123s were. Also, they are rather ugly, make me feel "special" - not in a good way. I just hope that NB will bring the 1123 back.

These running shoes were horrible. The wide shoe strings ensured that they would always come untied and the shoes felt much wider than a narrow. I have usually had good luck with New Balance shoes, but with this model, I should have returned the shoes and gotten my money back.

Narrower toe box than the 587 used to have!!! I have 4E feet, in particular with a narrow heel but very wide toe area, and it was a godsend when I found NB in the early 1990s. Not only that they made wide widths, but different lasts -- their SL-2 was so much better than most fits. Gradually, it seems like NB quality has gone down and that they have been making fewer shoes in their more accomodating lasts. NB claims the 587 is a classic, still made like it was years ago -- even still made in USA! But all good things come to an end, I guess. Well, I just got a pair to replace my five year old 587s, and they are *not* the same. They are very similar, but slightly narrower. In particular, NB has changed the design of the toe box -- it is now narrower, though also somewhat longer. This is not just a question of my old ones being stretched, it's clear that the toe cap leather is now a different shape, and it goes much further back down the sides of the shoe. The net effect is to make the front of the shoe more "pointy" -- longer in the middle, but narrower. More subtle is that the greatest length is right up the the middle, less biased towards the inner (big toe) side than before. The difference is obvious to anyone who is a longtime user of the SL-2 last -- SL2 shoes never looked at all pointy in the front, very broad and round. So what used to be a perfect gym shoe for me is now tight across the toes, and downright painfully pinching my big toes. I imagine they'll stretch but it's never going to fit as well as the traditional SL-2 has. Be warned if you're not just wide, but specifically wide across the toes.

The shoe fit great, then after a month both shoes squeak non stop and it's pretty loud. There is plastic that's lining the inside of the fabric of the shoe and creaks and squeaks with every step. Also, because of the design of the sole a lot of people thought I was wearing shape ups which was a turn off. If they didn't sound like I needed to be oiled I'd be more inclined to buy these again because they do feel good but the quality of the shoe seems to be lacking.

I purchased these shoes about two months ago. I just wore them for walking and mild jogging, size 12N. About a week after wearing them, the right shoe began squeaking very loudly, and when I removed the insole, I saw written in red "second" and cannot help but think that I was given a defective shoe. The left one squeaks but not as loudly. I am not sure if these can be returned. I have ordered other shoes but this is the first time that I have had a problem. A response would be appreciated.

These are very comfortable shoes, but the outside of them wore faster than any other New Balance shoes I have worn. After only a couple months of walking in these, the outer covering looked awfully torn and beaten up. A few months later, and one of the shoes starts squeaking loudly when I step on it, possibly from the heel plastic bubble breaking? These shoes have not been abused, but they sure do look like they have. I am disappointed, because they are so comfortable, but with the squeakiness and ugliness problems, I have to get different shoes.

Sneakers are ok, not the greatest pair I have ever bought. Thinking about exchanging them. The support and the ride is great, just bigger than expected.

These shoes are not as good as I thought they would be. They squeak when I walk in them, so I am the one in the gym with squeaky shoes on the treadmill. The style has a dated feel and look.

Not enough sole support. Very thin sole under the ball of the foot. Very light weight shoe, good for light workouts only.

Bunion Maker - This would be my most comfortable running shoe except for one thing. Somewhere a while back the engineers at New Balance decided to make a shoe with the footbed slanted inward at the large toe. I feel like I would get bunions if I wore them constantly. I am 78 years old and wear runners for comfort, not running. I rotate 7 pair of shoes daily to minimize the bad-fit aspects of each brand. My old 475s fit like a glove in size 14; now I must order size 15 in New Balance, just like so many other foreign made shoes.
