The 996 would have been my 4th pair of NB Classics. My 991, 992 and 993 were all 13EE and fit perfectly. It seems the 996 (also 13EE) runs narrow.

I usually wear Vans Slip-Ons, Adidas Campus Vulcs, Emericas, etc, but I ordered these shoes to switch things up a bit. The price is somewhat steep, but I think they were worth it. Although they are more of a casual, "retro" shoe than a modern cross-trainer/running shoe, they are much more comfortable for running than your average skate shoe, which should come as no surprise. I usually wear a 9.5, so I ordered these in a 9.5. They work, but I probably could've gone with a 9 for a slightly better fit - something you may want to consider. Bottom line: they're comfortable and they look really good with shorts.

Best shoe I ever wore - I have purchased at least a half dozen of these. And maybe got the world's last one packed safely away for a rainy day. I have tried many other versions and this is only one you can put and feel like you have been wearing it for months. So comfortable. The other thing I like is the fact it is a nice looking non-gaudy show that can be worn on may occasions without one feeling conspicuous. New Balance shot themselves in the foot when they discontinued this model. Should have been like Coke Classic.

The most comfortable running shoe ever made! I have 5 pairs of these shoes and would buy more as these shoes are comfortable from day one. I cannot understand when a manufacturer dumps a popular shoe and substitutes an inferior product at a higher price. Furthermore, I can wear these shoes besides for running and not feeling gaudy as some of the other ugly looking running shoes would make me feel. Bring back the 996 - please!

Great Shoe- This shoe is great... it’s all I ever wear... I need a wide shoe and this is the most comfortable shoe I've worn.

My favorite shoe! This shoe was made for me- it is true to size, width and very comfortable. When one pair wears out I order another - hard to find narrow width in local stores, but always available at Zappos.

Very comfortable, light and cool on the feet. Heel is thicker than it seems in the picture--but provides great support.

These are hard to find in my size - I had been looking for the 996 in mens 13 for a while, bid on a pair or two on Ebay even, but bidding went higher than I wanted to pay...I guess lots of people want these, and for good reason. They are nicer and more comfortable than the 574s I had, once I got these, the 574s went to the donation bin.

Another New Balance winner - This is my 3rd pair of New Balance and the best one of the bunch (they are all good). Fit and finish are fantastic with great detail. Super comfortable! I wear 13 narrow and New Balance are the only athletic brand I can wear. I also appreciate that this model is assembled in the U.S.A.

Twenty five years wearing great shoes - I bought my first pair of New Balance shoes in 1980. I wear them every where except to Church, Weddings and Funerals. The M 996 fit like gloves, are light, give great traction when I fish the rivers of Missouri. The gray color is almost dressy, enough so that I wore them to work.

If the shoe fits ... This was my first pair of New Balance sneakers, and while I'm normally an 8.5, I found I'm a size 8 in this brand. Once I got the proper size (and, as always, the crack Zappos staff got me a smaller size pronto), everything's been fine. Quality, comfort, style ... it's all been good.

New Balance Classics's M 996 - This is an excellent shoe that I buy year after year.

Glad it's available - An excellent quality running shoe with modest good looks, no ridiculous styling quirks. I hope it stays in production!

Oldie but a goodie - I'm an older non competetive runner; ie ..somebody just looking to finish the run or race de-jour. I've run NYC Marathon a bunch of times in the eighties but stopped due to a non running injury. I started up again this year and thought about running the Marine Corp Marathon as I had never gotten in before. Imagine my surprise when I got in via lottery. I was using New Balance shoes in training for the run but needed a boost and looked the 996 never thinking I could still get a pair anywhere until my son suggested Zappos. The shoes have been great and met my needs, I had tried a competitor who took the order charged me and then back ordered the shoes. My son suggested Zappos, I cancelled the order with the competitor (Roadrunners), and the rest is happy history. Classic New Balance is back! New Balance M-996 is still made in the USA! I'm glad to have it again!

SATISFACTION - I have worn a large number of running shoes in my 78 years but have found very few to be as comfortable and good looking as the New Balance 996.

Great for wide feet - Very comfortable, soft inline, and perfect for us fatty footed people.

Comfortable, Stylish Retro Shoe - This shoe is one of the more comfortable NB I have owned, and I have owned at least 6 pairs. I wanted the retro look and at first tried out the popular 574's, they ran a little small and I came out between sizes. So I found these and they are actually better made and more comfortable, plus they are MADE IN THE USA! The sizing is true and they fit like a dream. Major Kudos to Zappos.com, they got this pair of shoes to me in ONE DAY, and to top it off...IT WAS FREE! It doesn't get any better than that, Zappos has made me a faithful customer literally overnight. If you want a Stylish comfy shoe, this one is definitely worth checking out, when you order from Zappos you can't lose.

Stylish and super comfortable shoe. I had been wearing Nike/Adidas for the longest time and finally purchased this pair of NB's, a great choice. I wore them during a trip to Orlando, where I did a ton of walking and I really noticed the difference in comfort. Great shoe.

Great Comfort Shoe - Just a great all around shoe. Very true to size and comfortable. Great for lounging and walking around the city.
