I generally do not write product reviews because I am never truly wowed. These clogs, however, are amazing. As a neurosurgeon, I spend very long amounts of time on my feet, standing in essentially one place. Prior to ordering these, I tried Dansko/Sanita clogs, Professional Crocs, and every running shoe under the sun with the same result. At the end of surgery, my legs/back ached and the next day I felt like I had run a marathon. I just completed 18 hours of surgery wearing these clogs and feel great. I'll never operate in anything else. I was able to wear them without really breaking them in. I've worn Birkenstock for years, though, and my feet are used to the shape of the foo tbed. If you're a new wearer, I'd suggest wearing them for a while before you test them out in, say, an operating room where you can't futz with them. One drawback is that they don't breath, so appropriate socks are a must. I find that any of the wick-away running socks work well with them. I wore them around for a few days trying out different socks before I first used them at work. They felt true to Birkenstock size, although my Birk size is smaller than my Sanita or running shoe size. They felt a little big at first but over the course 22 hours of continuous wear I was glad that the toe was a touch roomy. As a plus, they are super easy to clean with envirocide and I'm told that they can be auto-claved (although I have yet to confirm this with Birkenstock) which makes them great for dirty environments.

CLOGS
I am a travel writer and need to exist in any climate, weather and social circumstance with ONE pair of shoes. I finally found the perfect pair for my feet (but not high class social situations).
Pro: Why do I like them?
P1. Perfect fit. Technically they are probably too big, but I don't care what any podiatrist might say. I know what *feels* good.
P2. They are funny shoes. I feel like a clown wearing them (see con!)
P3. They are 100% waterproof (but see con).
P4. My feet breathe. May people ask me 'Aren't your feet hot?' (I am in Bangkok). Quite the opposite. My feet are cool - perhaps one size 'too big' helps.
P5. They are very comfortable. In any other pair of shoes, including other Birks, I feel like a prisoner.
P6. They start conversations with German travelers I meet in S.E. Asia and beyond.
P7. Although supposedly one is supposed to wear ankle supporting boots or athletic shoes while hiking I walk mountain paths in mine, and have never a problem as long as the incline is not too steep.
P8. The insoles are replaceable when they wear out.
P9. The insoles are dryable when they get wet (and they do)
P10. I can wear them with or without socks.
P11. The grip on the soles is very good. After about a year though they are nothing special.
Con: Why do I not like them?
C1. My pair are green - not exactly standard male attire. Singapore does not sock conservative colours like dark brown.
C2. Because they are healthy natural shows they cast me as a hippie.
C3. Because they look like work shoes and have no status appeal they do not appeal to females looking for a breadwinner.
C4. The insoles wore out in less than a year. Maybe this is normal. In Singapore, which is probably where I will get my next pair, insoles cost over 20% of the price of the clogs they fit.
C5. They are waterproof only on the bottom. They are not boots and they are not intended for walking in swamps. If it is pouring rain your feet will get very wet.
C6. They are expensive (but I have worn one pair of shoes for over two years - so per day they are not expensive).
C7. Frequently I get stones in them. I presume this is because they are open shoes.
C8. They are very hard to find in Asia outside of metropolises such as Singapore and Hong Kong.
C9. They are very expensive for a plastic pair of shoes. It is very frustrating to see gardening clogs in Thai superstores for a fraction of the cost of these - from China I believe. But they are too narrow and the plastic is definitely softer. I know because I tried them on. I have also heard of knock-offs being sold in Australia for AUS$20 . But who knows how good they are for durability and comfort?
Conclusion: Curiously I have bought and worn other Birks and been very unhappy with them - I felt like my feet were being tortured. I am not willing to 'wear in' any shoes. They must be immediately comfortable and stay that way. These clogs are very different. I can only suggest that anyone considering buying them might want to try a size bigger than usual.
I have a high instep, narrow heel and wide at the toes. If you are somebody who doesn’t care what people think, if you insist on comfort, and if like me you got tired of stubbing your toes on third world sidewalks - these shoes are a godsend.

I used to wear my Danskos for the first 5 years of my career. They were great for my back, but terrible on my feet. I have small, wide feet. I switched to the professional Birki’s 10 years ago and will never change back. I can stand and cook for 14 hours with no foot pain. My toes are free and the shoes are just big enough that I can kick them off easily if I spill hot stuff on my feet. They are the best shoes I have ever worn. I am a lifer in these shoes. Oh--and they are NOTHING like Crocs. Crocs are cheap and have zero non-slip protection. No cook in my kitchen is allowed to wear crocs.

Great work shoes -
Before buying this shoe, I suggest you try on a pair of Birkenstocks in the store so you know your European sizing. I am normally a 7, but in Birkenstocks I am a 37 (US 6/6.5). I ordered my normal Birkenstock size and my foot fit perfectly in the footbed. I wore these shoes for about 24 hours before they were broken in, so be prepared for some discomfort and have alternate shoes to change into when your feet get too sore. After they are broken in you will be very happy with them. These shoes are very wide and can feel loose, but once you get used to them they are amazing! (They fit similarly to Crocs.) If you are on your feet all day, you will be grateful for all of the extra room. I found that, when you're walking, it helps to think of these shoes as flip flops -- push down with your toes to keep the shoes from slipping off of your feet. I have a pair of Danskos which I loved, but wouldn't fit after my feet would get swollen. I bought a pair of Crocs, but after a month their lack of support made my heels hurt. These Birki's are the best of both worlds: good support with a loose fit, and you can clean them very easily. I've only had them for a month, but a friend has worn his pair daily for three years and they're still going strong.

Awesome shoes if on your feet all day.
The best "kitchen" shoe ever. I have worked in the food service industry for 20+ years and the past 7-8 years have been spent in a kitchen. I have worn Birkenstock sandals for approx 20 years but didn't want to spend the $100 for "kitchen shoes" - especially since this is my part time job. Best purchase ever... Even after working a double, I can get up of a morning and walk without pain/discomfort in feet, legs or back. My full time day job is a desk job - but once a year I help with physical inventory. The first year I wore tennis shoes - big mistake! I went home for lunch that first day with aching feet, legs and back - decided to try my Birki Prof Clogs for the rest of the day - figured anything would be better than the tennis shoes. Best decision ever - the aches and pains from the morning went away and I still felt good at the end of the day. Expensive? Yes - but worth every penny! I have been wearing this pair for 3+ years and would have replaced anything else 5-6 times by now and likely spent more money.

Awesome Birk's -
I am on my feet 12-14 hours a day and these shoes are my savior. The non-slip sole is very good too. The cork foot bed conforms to your feet in about a day or two. I would recommend them for any one working in and around a kitchen.

Got sick of ruining my shoes...these are incredible -
26 Hours. Zappos had these on my doorstep in 26 hours. I won’t shop for shoes anywhere else. As far as the shoe is concerned...I get them filthy and they come clean in the dishwasher. As far as comfort is concerned, I have an extreme flat foot (yeah, it makes suction cup noises on wood floor) and they are comfortable in the hot kitchens. I wear 13 in New Balances...but 12 in Birki's.

Best nurse shoe! 2nd pair of these. Had first for 10 YEARS!!! The first pair still looked BRAND new up to the day they had an accident. Hardly any wear at all. The only reason I had to replace was because my husband ran over them with the car! And the top of them split. Ha! Ha! What a SHOE! Took a car to take them out! Otherwise, best shoe EVER! Only shoe that lets me stand all day and have no pain/shin splints/etc. No corns. No pressure! Wipe 'em down easy and DONE! They do fit a little box like though, but, to me, feels like a loose slipper. Does take a little getting used to. I prefer these over the SUPER BIRKI'S, for the higher back, otherwise, my foot slips out. They run HUGE and WIDE! Your feet definitely BREATHE. So, order down. I wear a 6, actually fit the US 4-4.5 with still room for movement. Hard to find trendy shoe for nursing, these are so cute on. Tried good cute tennies too, and they suffocate my feet and make 'em sweat. Work in busy ICU 12 hours, sometimes 16! Couldn't ask for a better shoe to get me through my days. Have tried SO MANY, and will use these for the rest of my career.

Great Kitchen Shoes -
I bought these when my Danskos wore out. I'd rate both at about equally comfortable, I'm fine in the Bakery doing a 10-12 hour shift in these, and my legs don't start to get tired, or my feet to ache.
These are more stable for me to walk in, the Danskos, with the higher heel always seemed a little more rocky, and I was more likely to stumble, these however don't handle slick surfaces as well, although they are much better than athletic shoes, or most any other option.
They don't look that great, something akin to penguin feet, but as they're worn for comfort in a professional environment, I don't really care about that.
All in all though, a great shoe, that I'm extremely happy with. I also appreciate the removable insole, and the material of the shoe... if it gets too dirty, I take out the insole and run it through the sanitizer!

Feet still feel good at end of day!
I'm a medical & radiology tech - on feet all day, some days walking 3 to 5 miles on the Pedometer. I bought these and am glad I did! Plenty of room to move feet around and get some air inside if you're standing still, can still move quickly in them when walking fast, and they have room to swell during the day. I had to experiment with my socks, slick socks that slide around didn't work out well in these, but more thick padded ones that had some "grab" to them did. I wear a women’s size 9, and was thinking of going up to 40 in my Birks from now on (this is my 4th pair of Birkenstocks, I love them! I own 2 Arizona's and 2 Birki's now), but after reading all the reviews I stuck with a 39 and they fit just perfectly. ALSO, Zappos got these to me within 24 hours! Impressive!

Wear like iron -
I spend about 10 hrs a day on my feet as a bicycle tech. I've had my pair over ten years, and can't wear them out! I've been using cork insoles from a pair of Birkenstock Derby's I had a number of years ago--more comfortable than the clog's stock insoles. I wear a 42; ordered 41 per advice from Birkenstock rep. They fit well. Oh, FYI the cork insoles are from a 42 and fit like they were made for the Pro Clogs.
Buy these clogs. They will last forever. You'll love them.

Comfortable shoes-
These shoes are great. They're a neutral heel shoe, meaning there is no incline from heel to toe, which means it's like walking barefoot and there's no pressure on the front of the foot. My foot is measured with a Birkenstock shoe measurer to be just at 46, which means the shoes are a little big. The first week or so, the top of my right foot hurt, but that went away after the shoe broke in. Since the insert is a little big for my foot, I had to file down the raised big toe area, because it was pushing up on my toe. The 45 would have fit me probably perfectly, except that the front of the 45 shoe angles too much, and my second toe pushed against the front of the shoe. Other than that, this shoe I can wear all day and walk long distances without discomfort, and no other shoe has done that for me. The polyurethane insert and the rubber shoe is an excellent shock absorber on concrete, so you don't feel the shock. By the way I wear a size 13 in athletic shoes.

Best Kitchen shoe ever-
I am a pro chef in Massachusetts and this shoe really rocks! It can pretty much withstand anything except for a direct hit from a falling chef's knife, which we tested on several models! I would recommend it to everyone, but make sure you get a size smaller.

Long Time User -
I am a Pro Chef in Illinois. The Prefessinal Birkenstock Clog is consistently the most comfortable shoe I have worn. There will be a bit of play in the fit, maybe 3/8". If more than that you better order next size smaller. If youve never worn them it will take two weeks before you are used to them. The real problem with these clogs is that I wear the damn thing everywhere. Even mowing the yard. LOL. Ive owned eveything including Dr Martens but my back doesnt hurt with the Birkis. When my ankles start bothering me I order a new poly insole for $25 and I'm ready to go. The poly insole works well in some of their other styles and we like it better than the coton/cork insoles. Just my $.02

Here's the deal...
As a veteran Birk consumer (15+years), this is what I found True of the PROF.CLOG... All day long I'm a 10-1/2, In european sizing that's a 44.5, I also have a wide foot with good arch. So I've been wearing every Birk in this size since forever. I'm a cyclist and therefore need a slightly more snug-fit, so a 44 wide is a good tight fit. As a professional, I'm a vegetarian-chef/instructor, and spend alot a time standing in one spot. After reading every review posted on Zappos, I decided to run to my nearest Happy Feet Plus and try them on before my purchase. My findings are: The 43 is my perfect fit, that's a whole 1-1/2 size down! These clogs are meant to be loose, as to allow air circulation, They will fit in the width, and toe to heal quite nicely, but will be loose around the top of the foot and toe-box. Very comfortable, a bit warm, but plenty of room for you to move toes and to pull your heel out whilst standing. I did try on a few other brands, but found these to be the most comfortable... Try them at least 1 size smaller than your european size, (they also don't come in 1/2 sizes) so buy accordingly... you'll love them...

I have a very narrow foot but this only comes in a regular width. I bought 2 sets of foam insoles at the store and put them under the Birkenstock footbed of this shoe. They're still wide, but I like them anyway and with the back, they stay on all right. They are comfy.

Love this shoe!
I work in the nursery industry, and this shoe keeps my feet both dry and comfortable. In the dry season when I am watering plants and making puddles... no problem, my feet are dry and comfy. In the rainy season when there is water everywhere... no problem, my feet are dry and comfy.
I have been wearing these as work shoes for about six years now, and I my only regret is that I didn't discover them sooner. Having been in this business for over 30 years, I had ruined alot of pairs of my regular Birks.
No sizing problems. I always use the same size in whatever style of Birks I wear.
Love this shoe!

I like shoes so well, when I founded this par of shoes at a garage sale I didn't know what they were. My daughter-in-law came over to visit, and saw me with them on and said, Birkenstocks' I said "what?" and she repeated "Birkenstock's!" These old thihgs, I paid twenty-five cent for them. She said thoes shoes cost eighty dollars, I been wearing them everyday since and I love them! They are very comforable they always say somebody junk is someone treasure.

Love the shoes and the comfort that comes with them. They stay dry, but the only problem I have so far is that they trap dirt in the grooves under the shoe and when walking in my house, I always leave the dirt here. Not good!!!
