A shoe for all seasons and my job.
Overall they are great shoes, however just as with any leather shoe they need to be broken in. At first, they caused an uncomfortable rub on my heel. I would recommend some sort of insert; the stiffness of the sole can be uncomfortable if you are on your feet all day. They have pretty good traction as well; with all the snow we get they've held up really well. Get the Dr. Marten Balm if you're in wet conditions, it will help protect your shoes and make them look even better.

Good, but not great -
I heard how super the shoe is, but I find it to be just ok. The size is hard to fit in US but on the second try it worked. I like the look, but it is not as comfortable as a Rockport and I am a tad disappointed after all the bravo about Dr. Martens.
I'd also recommend:

Don's 8053 -
Fairly comfortable but as an indivudal that pronates, the shoes don't seem to offer a lot of support.

Most Docs need a bit of breaking in, and these are no exception. They look nice, but very basic. Not my favorite pair of Docs, but nice and classic. Several reviewers have written concerns about Doc quality since they have moved their factories to China and out of the UK. I've spent the last year and a half stocking up on the UK shoes before they all disappeaer. I'm up to 30 pairs.

Doc Martens aren't the Same.
I would love to give these shoes 5 stars all around, however, I'm not convinced that this is really a DM product anymore. . I was kinda heartbroken. I wasn't aware of this until now.
These shoes are my replacement for some 9369 DM Terrain shoes that served me well for the last few years. Unfortunately, I have trouble finding most of the styles in a UK 13. I've since grown out of the 9369's (too small on my feet), and they're unfortunately going to be my last UK made pair. These 8053s look pretty good. Let's just hope that they last the way past products did. I hope that DM doesn't go the way of most companies, making products that don't last.
Zappos.com delivered my order the same day I ordered it. Their warehouse is only a state away, so it got to my door within 24 hours. That's very impressive. I'll be buying all of my shoes from Zappos.com, since it's difficult and time consuming for me to go out and find shoes that I like, only to find that they don't have shoes in my size. I don't have the problem with Zappos.com.

classic but...
first docs i bought because they were padded and looked really comfy. they are to a degree but after many hours of walking my heel kills and the steel toe pinches my toes. Oddly I have the same version in the boot and I can wear them forever with no problem. It must just be the back on the heel, or they are are not deep enough. Steel toes are great at clubs when people step all over your feet but just dont kick anything...trying to "patch" up the chunks with doc wax is tricky. 3 years, no wear at all...its just a matter of taking care of them.

Not the Martens I Used to Know -
I've purchased Dr. Martens for years, now, and my most recent pair of oxfords has realized what many of my friends have warned me: Since production has moved to, the quality has lagged. This is true in what I believe to be the most important criterion--COMFORT. They're solid and even look similar to Martens I have in my closet, but they DON'T FEEL like Martens. They are a good shoe, but I'm not paying $120-150/pair for "good"... ever again.
I'd also recommend:
None, stop buying Martens.

Dr. Martens -
I have a pair of these that I got back a year and a half ago. They look very nice. They wear pretty well. I find that the sole is a little soft though and does wear fast in some areas. But the comfort of the shoe in my opinion was very sub-par. When I first bought them I wore then for 2-3 months and then just ordered the insoles from the Dr. Martens website. The for-foot has NO CUSHIONING! Everyone that I talked to said that they loved them and were the most comfortable shoes ever. WRONG! They were expensive and only comfortable if I put added insoles in them.

Well worn shoes-
I bought my first pair of Docs almost 8 years ago. I love my shoes, but without proper care, they have cracked which created holes. On one shoe, the sole on one side also came apart. In spite of them being well worn, I continue to wear them because they are my most comfy shoes. I would recommend this style in particular because they look good with all wardrobe styles.

Gaucho Crazy Horse -
I got this shoe in the Gaucho color and my review is based on that shoe. I have had the similar shoe in black that was very comfortable, but the Gaucho shoe is not. I don't know if the leather is different in the Gaucho, but the shoe is uncomfortable for extended wear. I have had them for almost a year now and still can only stand to wear them a couple of times a week. By the time I finish work I can't wait to get them off, and it takes a couple of days for my feet to recover. It's a good looking shoe and fine for a night out, but very uncomfortable over longer periods of time.

I am also recovering Dr. Martens fan. I recevied these as a Christmas gift. They looked great, but for the retail price on these they were uncomfortable...

Not even close to my size -
My wife bought these for me as a gift and they look great but they are very narrow and a little short. It is so tight that my foot went to sleep when I put them on. Not even close to my size and yet they were a US 12.

I'm usually a fan of Dr. Marten's shoes, and have worn other styles, but these are really uncomfortable for me. These have a bumpy area in the leather at the top back of the heel that rubs blisters. Haven't been able to wear them in at all.

imports cut smaller -
I loved these shoes, the only problem is that the ones I recieved were made in China. This was the second pair of Doc Martens I've recieved that were too small, both pair were made in China. The Doc Martens made in England though are true to size, though they are no longer made there.

Docs -
It feels to me like a different fit from essentially the same model I purchased when Dr. Martens manufactured in UK. This new shoe is less cofortable and seems narrower and not the great shoes that my previous pair was, at least for my feet.

Great shoe, but only lasted 1 year -
These shoes are so comfy and cool, but the sole actually split on the bottom after less than a year of usage. I'm hesitant to purchase another pair.

Made in China -
I have a few pairs of Dr. Marten shoes that I have been wearing for 5 years and they are all made in England. I like them a lot. I needed a new pair, so I bought another pair recently. When I try them on, it was fine, but after half day of wearing it, I got blisters on the heels. Even after the blister healed, it still bothers my heel. Then, I realized that it is made in China. I don't know if that is something to do with the discomfort on heels, but made in England shoes never gave me any problems. So, I took the shoes to a very good shoe repair shop, they said that the heel is made "flat" that causes blisters, usually good shoes have an arch/curve on heel to support the average man's natural curve of heel. Right now, it is sitting in the closet. I am very unhappy about these shoes.

Ouch.
Breaking in these shoes almost crippled me, but I toughed it out since they are a good looking pair of shoes. After 6 months of wishing they didn't feel like I was walking barefoot on concrete, I finally got a pair of gel insoles for them. How they get away with calling their shoes "Air-Ware" escapes me.

Not The Same as ENGLAND made -
I had to write a review to set the record straight about Docs now being made in China. I wore my 3 year old pair of 8053's to the mall and checked out the new "cheaper" version now being offered. They basically look the same but that is as far as it goes. They run much smaller than the original Docs but that is not the main issue. The leather does not have the same supple feel and the interior of the shoe has changed as well and appears much cheaper.
It does seem that all good things eventually come to an end and Doc Marten has joined this sad new philosophy. It seems craftsmenship and quality have gone by the wayside in favor of making more money.
Unless by some chance I can find a pair of Doc's that were made in England I will never own another pair.
Fortunatly,..the Doc Marten Shoe Balsam is still the same stuff, so my 3 year old pair of ORIGINAL Docs look great. Just wish I had bought 2-3 pairs back then.
Truely a sad sad day for Doc Marteen

These should NOW be called Dr. WalMartens!!!
NO LONGER THE SAME SHOE! I bought these for my husband to replace the same design he has been wearing for over 8 yrs., but they came and he relabeled them Dr. Walmartens! DR. MARTENS ARE NO LONGER MADE IN ENGLAND, and made of anything but leather! VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE PLASTIC LOOK OF THESE SHOES. 20 steps and there was a white plastic wear mark across the top of the shoes! ALl Dr. Martens are now Made in Thailand and China - and nowhere is it stamped on the inside of the shoe that they are man-made leather, if they are a leather, it's cheap! I talked to a shoe sales guy at Nordstrom (high dollar store for those of you who don't know) and he said that they just want to sell more product. The problem with Dr. Martens is that they held up too long, they wanted the consumer to come back sooner than 5 yrs. to replace their shoes, so they figured out a way, make them crappy! If you notice, they are much lighter too, heel/footing is plastic! If you scrap your nail across the side of the heel and have shavings come off it's gotta be a bad deal! I had to return these!! They were $30 cheaper, now I see & know why! And there is the story of why these should NOW be called Dr. WalMartens! Had to go with Born Co. for new shoe, Hale model.
