Nicely surprised - After hearing some horror stories about the decline in quality of Docs, and after wearing them regularly for the past 15 years, I was hesitant to buy another pair of boots. However, the leather broke in easily with some saddle soap and mink oil, and the fit was spot-on as it used to be. The only complaint I have is that the air wair soles (as mentioned in other reviews) don’t feel quite as bouncy as they once did, hence not giving this boot 5 stars. Still a nice boot, happily, though we will see if they hold up as remarkably long as the made in England variety.

Right now, I can only give these boots a comfort factor of 2. Once they break in, and that takes me quite a while, Doc Martens become the best casual boot to wear.

Fine on the feet but tough on the ankles during break-in - These run a little wide, but are true to length. Right now, my left boot is chewing a little hole in the back of my Achilles tendon where the heel cap meets the boot. Also, the leather comes VERY, VERY stiff initially; I also have a ring of bruises where the ankle is reinforced at the top of the boot. I know that this will ease up as they wear in, but I need to buy a new package of thick socks for the time being.

A different cut - I got what I thought was the exact same shoe that I have been wearing since I was 15. The cut of this shoe is significantly different than previous Doc Martens, which makes it tighter and gives it less room for accompaniment at the top. I'm hoping it'll be more comfortable when it is broken in, but the previous cut was much better.

Old Reliable - I purchased these same boots about 11 years ago and was wearing the same boots until the soles wore out and could not be replaced. The new pair that I just recently purchased are not of the same quality as 11 years prior but they will still suffice. I love the offbeat style of the boot and find them to be quite funky. The arch support is lacking in these boots, in addition to the fact that I am a woman's size 7 1/2 and ordered a size 8 as the boot does not come in half sizes and they are a bit loose on my feet. I had to purchase arch and heel supports to enhance the comfort of the boot. Otherwise I still love the look of them and hope that these boots will last as long as my other pair!!!

Doc Marten's - I am very pleased with my purchase. It was easy to order, and shipment was quick.

Outstanding service from Zappos!! Due to the whole size only production philosphy of Doc Martens, I aimed a little low and had to return my US 11 sized Docs for a US size 12; Zappos return policy made this almost unbelievably easy. This is my first pair of Docs, and while I love the look I'm not 100% convinced of the quality. They seem to be acceptable in terms of fit and finish, just a lot lighter material than I had expected.

1460 - Shoe is great. I have owned several of these shoes about 10 years ago and still cant get away from them. My only complaint would be the flat black ones I got might be more comfortable when they break in. The greasy ones I had in the past were more comfortable at first,

Great but need to break them in - I too have a pair from England but these feel great. It's taking a long time to break them in but warehouse work should take care of that.

Doc Martens from China...not quite the same - These boots are stylish and comfortable, yet do not feel like they have the same quality as the ones formerly produced in the UK. Producing these boots in China has appeared to drop the quality of the boot and its all-around fit. If you're lucky, grab a well-cared for, used pair of these boots that were produced in the UK.

Dr. Marten's - I really enjoy the new shoes and their enhanced comfort, but I wished their sizes matched american sizes a little closer.

Look great, long break-in - I've had several pairs of Docs, they all have long break-in times (lots of Neatsfoot Oil helps). I recommend if you wear a half-size, order the next size down (I wear a 10 1/2, but the US10 fits me pretty well. I didn't notice any difference between the English and Chinese made shoes, but I think the insole on the English ones was a little nicer...

A classic shoe and great delivery - First of all, kudos to Zappos. Not only did they have exactly what I wanted, but they even upgraded my shipping at no charge, so I got them within two days of ordering. What a fantastic company! As for the shoes, well, I've been wearing this style for years and they've always been durable and comfortable. The first couple of days you might want to wear a thicker sock than usual, just because it takes about two days for the top of the boot to soften, and during those two days without thicker socks I find it rubs the back of my legs, which can be a little uncomfortable. But once they're broken in, you can't find a more comfortable and classic looking boot. The only reason it gets 4 stars overall instead of five is that they've started making them in China, rather than England. The shoe quality seems about the same, but part of Doc Marten's appeal has always been the "made in England" stamp on the sole, and without that... well, I just can't give it the same five stars I would give a "made in England" shoe.

Mark - The design of the boots is great. Only thing is they make my feet sweat and when I wear it in winter. After a couple of hours wearing them and taking them off my feet, you can smell the nasty stink inside the boots.

Not what they used to be. This is my 7th pair of Docs, and my 3rd pair of 1460's in the last year alone. Dr. Martens switched from all-UK made to being made in China, and this has had a noticeable impact on the quality of both the sole and the upper. The soles don't last like they used to. They're still worth the money, although not as much, and I have yet to find a more comfortable shoe in the long run. Zappos.com is great, by the way.

A very nice boot, although stiff at first; it has taken some time to break in. It's very sturdy and well made and should last a long time. I can't say enough about Zappos though. Free, fast and efficient; I will always order from them.

Having never worn Docs before, I wasn't sure what to expect but wanted to give the boot a chance. It did feel true to size, but it was a little bit bulkier and clunkier than expected, the edge of the back of the boots dug into my calves, and the material even looked a bit cheap. Not my thing.

When I took these out of the box, I was so happy with them. They look great! Exactly what I wanted. They fit great BUT, the leather around the top is really hard and stiff so I found them to be too uncomfortable to wear. I had to send them back. I am ordering the Pascal Virginia and hoping they are as cute but more comfortable.

The boots were too stiff to even get my foot in without fully unlacing the laces. Super cute but I don't have the patience.

Honestly, I wanted to like them. My daughter has a pair (different style) that she loves. But these were so hard and stiff going onto my feet and the amount of time and probable discomfort to get them to be broken in just didn't seem worth the effort. I had a similar feeling about some Blundstone's I bought--still not broken in after 5 years. Anyway, I decided on a pair of Borns which went on easily and didn't need to be broken in at all. Felt great from day one.

These boots were an odd mix...the left boot pretty much instantly felt fine, but the right one was a nightmare at first. The instep was really tight and felt like a clamp on the top of my foot. I finally got it loosened by jamming a jar into it over a few nights, and also using a wet towel helped stretch it. The bottom part of the inner shoe (the part your foot is on, inside the boot) started to move a bit too, and wrinkled near my toes. I was able to pull it back but I don't think it's going to stay put for very long. Again, the left boot fits fine and has none of these problems. If my right boot felt like the left, it would be 5 stars across the board. The leather is a lot thinner on the upper than I would have thought, but the boot is very lightweight and comfortable. The soles are very nice too. Right now the boots are comfy, but I have doubts about the overall durability of them, especially the one that had the foot sole/insert thing move on me. We'll see how it goes.
