Take a pair of Sperrys and upgrade them to high-quality leather and double the arch and heel support and you've got yourself a Sebago Dockside. These are my favorite boat shoes. I prefer them to Sperry. I can walk around all day in these without pain or feeling like I'm wearing a "boat shoe." Only downsides: 1. They take a crazy long time to break in. The leather is not forgiving so wear socks with them for the first month or bathe them in hot salt water overnight and beat them with a baseball bat, otherwise get out those band-aids for your ankle. 2. They never really wear out. (Why is that bad?) Well, Sebagos have incredible durability. I've had a few pairs for quite a few years and they literally look the same as when I bought them. This is awesome unless you're one of those who needs the saltwater stained grungy look to make your boat shoes feel authentic. These hold up so well it's going to take awhile to make a Sebago look "worn." If you're looking for shoes that look broken in, go Sperry.

It's hard to compare these to other boat shoes since this is my first pair. Sizing wise, I typically wear 10.5 for most shoes but I decided for a size 10. It actually worked out for me since I only planned to wear these with/without thin loafer socks. First wear, the leather was pretty stiff and a little tight in the toe area. It took a couple wears for the leather to finally break-in and mold around my feet. The leather also stretched enough where the small tightness in the toe is gone. Otherwise, they are comfortable as heck and look good with everything. I do plan to pick up another pair in a different color.

My favorite boat shoes were a discontinued Sebago model so when I needed to replace them I stuck with the brand.
These shoes are classically styled, which is nice. What wasn't so nice was the break in period: I have never had a pair of shoes that took longer to break in. That includes Frye boots, old school leather hiking boots, etc. I was in pain, daily, for about a month and a half. If I hadn't worn them outside I would've returned them rather than endure that break in period. Even after that was done they were never what I'd call comfortable (compared to other boat shoes I've owned).
Other minuses include the leaky soles (no waterproof-ness here) and about a year in the stitching near the lower eyelet as torn out.
Wanted to love them but ended up just living with them.

First off these run large -- anywhere from a half to a full size. Second, they're stiff as the top-side of the deck. Third, if you want comfort right out of the box, go with some Sperry Top-Siders. They've gotten negative reviews but man, they fit like a glove. These Docksides are top-notch quality, but like many reviewers noted, are uncomfortable.

Love them, but needed to use anti-blister stuff because my foot kept rubbing. The shoes don't come broken in.

Fit and function.
For the last 3 or 4 years now, I've owned a pair of Sebago Docksides. What I particularly like is the approximately 1" rubber cover between the leather top and sole. I found that they're quite resistant to water and seem to always look great.
The fit is very comfortable. Although, at times I hasten to say, it can "get my goat," the way leather laces somehow untie themselves.
Overall, I rate the shoes as a 5 Star. It's a pleasure to put them on.

This shoe is a replacement for my very favorite eight year Old Timberland blue moccasins that I have walked off the soles. My feet are very wide and this shoe should probably have been a EE width rather than an e, the latter being the widest that Sebago makes in this style/color. I like the look enough to have bought it but I am stretching out the width myself. So, if your foot is very wide, this shoe might not fit width-wise. The staff was very cooperative and sent me an additional pair for fit. No questions asked. First class service.

I was very impressed with Zappos. Excellant variety and great prices. I received the shoes less than 48 hours after ordering them for my husband.

Very good quality. The Sebago shoes that I ordered are very well made, and also very comfortable. The service from Zappos was outstanding, and have have placed an additional order. I am sure I will place additional orders in the future.

I just purchased a pair of Docksides for the first time (my first pair of boat shoes ever) and they are incredible. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase; the fit is very nice and true to size, they look and feel great and are definitely worth the money. Zappos shipping was fast and FREE, gotta love that! I would certainly purchase products from this site again, I'm very satisfied.

These are a comfortable, casual shoe with good fit options. For a larger foot size (we bought them in a 13 wide), there are not a lot of shoes available, and these were similar to a fashion brand that didn\'t carry the size we needed. They came in 3 widths which was more than we expected.

Had to return these and get them a half size smaller. My son loves these, and he is very particular. The wide width was perfect for him. They were comfortable walking long distances immediately, without socks!

Good Comfortable Shoe -
The shoes have fit well and are comfortable. They are great for someone who needs a wide shoe (4E) which is not easy to find in this style of shoe.

Bush Bashers
I've abused a pair of docksiders for the last 6 years, they have been in sea water, fresh water, bush walks on safari in South Africa, cruising in Russia, you name it they have been badly abused in every possible way(including having to attend reasonably formal functions!). They now need replacing, am I glad I found this site!!

Simply the best
This is the only boat shoe worth the money. I owned a pair for years and finally wore them out but it took some doing. They are the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. They are worth the money and not easy to find. Sperry seems to be more on the shelves but given the choice I will track down the Docksides.

I am ordering a second pair of Sebago Docksides for my husband as the pair he has now is completely "holy" but he will not let me throw them out. He has had them for years (We've been together for 8 years and he's had them way before then.) He has done everything but waterski with these shoes on so I think a second pair will be a nice surprise for his birthday.

Worth It!
My husband has a pair of original Docksides that he got when he was in high school - that was 16 years ago! They don't look their best anymore, and we've had to have them repaired once but they are definitely worth their price. Value still does exisit in America.

I'm sold. I have had the pleasure of owning two pairs of Docksides in my life. The first pair lasted me 20 years! Prior to that, I was going through a pair of Sperry Topsiders a year. The fit is fantastic and the soles seem to last forever. They are literally the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. Docksides are the only boat shoe for me!

A fly shoe. Significantly thicker, better-quality leather than Sperry Topsiders; doesn’t appear wide and clown-shoey, but definitely is more comfortable in width for my wide feet than Sperrys as well.

The look is good but as everyone else states these things are tough. I bought a wide width and they were very tight. I tried them on with socks and then without. They are still kind of tight I could not wear these for more than two hours.
