As a college student, I decided to step away from my lazy girl UGGS look and opt for something new and different--particularly, a boot that’s more durable and lasting than my UGGS. I’m so glad I found myself some Fryes because these are seriously some kick *** boots! I’m a size 5.5 in shoes, but in boots, I definitely need a little more room when I wear socks so I got them in size 6. Then came the hardest part of all: deciding between the 8R or 12R and the color black or gaucho! In the end, I chose the 8R, and I’m glad I did because if the boots were any higher it probably would’ve been overwhelming since I’m super petite. After going for the 8R, I HAD to buy both boots in gaucho and black so I can choose between them. I wanted to like the black so badly since it’s often the more popular one that fashionistas wear, but I guess I wasn’t motorcycle-tough enough (not exactly saying that you have to be) to rock these in black, if you get the drift. So I decided to stick with gaucho, which is also such a beautiful color. It still definitely has that tough-girl feel to it, especially with its rough, worn-out looking texture that makes the boot look more structured than the black, which made the boot look a bit flat and nearly rain-boot-ish on me. These are definitely your not-so-average everyday kind of boot, and they are seriously made to last! Now I can save myself from looking so typical and sloppy everyday in my worn out Uggs. Thank you Zappos!!!

Okay, I have had my eye on these for months, hoping the price would drop. It didn't - went up, actually - so I finally pulled the trigger and bought them. WOW! I love them. I know what others have said about the size, but my pair is true to size. My feet are a bit narrow and usually an 8 or 8 1/2. These are the perfect length, no trouble getting them on, and after two days of wearing them all day, no blisters. The heel cup is a bit roomier than I'd like, but allows for heavy socks. I am psyched. Oh, one other thing - because the toe is so rounded, I was afraid they'd make my feet look big. They don't at all. My feet actually look sort of cute and short. <3 True Love.

I've been wanting to get these boots for at least 5 years now...never wanted to pay the money to get these but finally did and LOVE these! frye boots are worth every penny, I love that they are made in the USA. But the style and quality are timeless. I know I'll never have to buy a pair of short brown boots again. I wear a size 8 but in these I have always worn a 1/2 size down. They take about a week to break in, but nothing like bloody ankles are anything. They are a bit heavy, but it's kinda like a work out. But you get used to the weight after wearing them for a while.
I'd also recommend:

These boots will make any outfit look even better. They are so cute and make me very happy. I was confused by the reviews saying they need breaking in and that it might hurt, so I walked around in my house with the size 7 all day. They were tight and my feet hurt too much to do anymore breaking in the next day so I just bought a half size up and its all good now. I would suggest getting a half size up from the size that you would take in flats.

Arrived fast. High quality leather and craftsmanship. Great accurate fit. Service was friendly and professional. I was treated as a VIP. Well worth the money. I like not having to pay S&H. Will buy again from Zappos. Thank you!

I originally purchased the higher version of this boot (which hit in a funky place on my calf), but returned it for this one. They were comfortable to wear for hours right out of the box, and fit true to size. I had a bit of trouble getting these on, but if you step into them, it's much easier than trying to get them on while sitting. The brown color distresses really well, and they only look cooler as you wear them longer. I get compliments on these every single time I wear them!

These boots are fantastic. I ordered an 8, which is my usual size, and they're perfect. I know some reviewers said they had to break the boots in, but that has not been my experience. From the moment I put them on they have been just right in every way!

I like these boots a lot. I have the 8R W in black and the 8R in smoke. I do not know what the difference is with the W and the help center could not tell me either. When I got them I figure they almost seem more waterproof as the leather feels much different than my 8R pair. I like the R pair better but these are great, too.

Awesome! The fit is good and I love the shorter shaft. Looks great with a simple dress or with jeans.

I am thrilled with my Frye boots! This is my second pair of Frye boots and I consider them 'investment' items. They seem to fit true to size, and are very comfortable right out of the box. I could not believe the fast shipping!

I am in love with these boots. They are so comfy and stylish. They go with pretty much anything I wear. The heel on the boot is so subtle, but makes a noticeable difference in my height. The leather is a little stiff, but you can tell it is high quality leather. It is somewhat difficult to slip on the boot, but standing up and slipping the boot on makes it easier. I would definitely recommend these boots for the fall and winter. Thank you Zappos for such great customer service.

These are super sweet boots. Normally with Frye I have to go down 1\/2 a size, but I got these in my true size and they fit perfectly. Also, I had no problem pulling them on like some of the other reviewers. I had these same boots in the 12R a few years ago and I love these 8R\'s so much better!

I typically wear a size 6, but with Fryes I usually wear a 6.5. Ordered the 6.5 in gaucho; it\'s beautiful. However, they\'re a bit bigger than my other 6.5 Fryes (Dorado riding boot and Carmen). I wear them with socks, and have no trouble getting my feet in and out of the boot. Wore them immediately after I got them, no break-in time required! The arch support is a little far back, but after you get used to them, they\'re quite comfortable. Beautiful boots!

These boots, in black, are the most recent addition to my growing Frye collection. I was reluctant to order them online, without trying them on, but I took a chance and I'm glad I did: I love them! I have a high instep and my foot's kind of wide, so I ordered a half-size up, which has worked out perfectly for me. Sure, there's a little bit of extra room at the toe, but the break-in period has been a piece of cake. In fact, I hiked the Presidio of San Francisco in them--on only my third wearing. (As it turns out, engineer boots make fine hiking shoes.) If, like me, you've had your eye on these but been trigger-shy, I'm here to tell you: just do it, you won't be disappointed. As an added bonus, as others have noted, they're surprisingly versatile.

I love these boots! They fit beautifully. I originally had a pair of the mid-calf version, but they fit a little weird on my calves. So, I went with the shorter version. Super cool and very snazzy with just about everything. I purchased both the gaucho and the black colors, thinking I would pick one and send the other back. However, now I’m really considering keeping them both. I am very impressed with the quality of leather in these boots, and wearing these boots is almost like wearing a part of US history.

These boots are fantastic and comfortable once you break them in. They're just the right amount of edge with a dress or skirt and they work really well with skinny jeans too. They are also incredibly practical. I've been wearing them in place of my snow boots and they're waterproof and heavy duty. My one very important warning is that the instep is extremely low. I had to have my instep stretched at a cobbler's so that I could wear them comfortably with socks. If you have a high instep as I do, you will most likely need to have them stretched as well. Worth it, though? Totally.

I LOVE this boot! Thanks Santa! Why didn’t I get it sooner?! If you had any thoughts of ever getting this boot-DO IT! It’s so comfortable and I felt like I’d had it for years! It looks great with my jeans and cords-I haven’t tried skirts yet since it’s still kinda cold out. I also love how it gives me a bit of height since I’m 5’1” to begin with. I did buy it a 1/2 size larger and am glad I did since my foot slips in and out without having to use a shoe/boot horn and my foot is not swimming in the boot. I do wear socks. (I’m a size 7 and bought a 7 1/2.) I did notice the first weeks the black dye would rub off onto my skin, unless I wore knee socks-so you probably wouldn’t want to wear light colored pants/cords until most of the "new" dye wears off. A well built quality boot that will last for years! I’d buy it again in a heartbeat or at least ask Santa to get it for me.

When it comes to shopping for clothes and shoes I like the classics that don’t go out of style and these boots are perfect in every way. I purchased them in the gaucho and love the color along with the natural variation in the leather. They are perfect to tuck skinny jeans into as well as to wear with a skirt or a dress. These boots are also one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes that I own. I suffer from heel spurs and these boots offer great support. I don’t even have to wear my shoe inserts with these boots. I say all around they deserve five stars.

Great boot especially with skinny dark denim and a rocker leather jacket. The boots unfortunately make dark marks on any light colored socks. Just wear black socks with them and you will have no problem.

These boots are really stylish, and true to size for me. I can tell they will take a little while to wear in, they are super sturdy. I love them. They will last years, and are very cool looking. They toughen up my usually girly look.

These are the second pair of Frye boots I've purchased from Zappos. To me, Frye boots run about 1/2 size larger than I normally wear. In most boots I wear a size 8, but in Frye I purchased 7.5. What I really like about these boots is the quality! Absolutely one of the best made, quality boots. I'm certain these boots will last my lifetime & I plan to live another 50 years. It's wonderful to know that some companies still care about the quality of their products and thank you Zappos! Happy New Year & God Bless!

I love these boots! I have wanted them for a long time! I finally broke down & bought a pair. I was not disappointed. They are quality boots, comfy since day one. The only thing I noticed was the backs took a few days of wear to break in. Love the arch support, the soles are great & they don't slip. They look great with bootcut, skinny jeans & tights. I couldn't be happier. I expect to be wearing these boots for years to come. I wrote this because other reviews encouraged me to purchase these. Go for it !

Nice looking boots, couldn't get them on. I love the look of these boots, but it just took way to long to get them on. I realize that leather is tough, but for the amount of money paid for the boots I should be able to get them on without a huge fight. I couldn't help but see myself at a friend's house fighting in embarrassment trying to get my expensive boots on. I don't have super wide or extra large feet, but I just tried and tried and couldn't get 'em on. I had to return them much to my dismay. I did on the other hand order the Ugg Endell's which arrived the very next day (thanks Zappos!) and go on easy and fit like a dream!

Not the same boot? I had another pair of these boots that I have loved for 6 years. I've worn them into the ground--gotten them re-soled twice and reheeled 5 or 6 times. I ordered these in March and they do not seem to be the same boot at all. I don't know if Frye is having their boots made elsewhere, changed the design, or if I somehow got a pair of fakes. But I'm really disappointed. The sole has a lot more flex than previously, which is accentuated by the way the heel connects--making these boots ultimately quite painful to walk in for long distances. They were so painful, in fact, that I had to buy a pair of sneakers one day just so I could make it home. (I could easily walk 10 miles a day in my previous boots.) Also, these boots are not tight across the top of the arch--as the engineers famously are--and so they quickly became very sloppy to walk in. There is also something weird about the way the strip of leather at the back of the heel was sewn--it's not symmetrical. I have not worn them since March and I look sadly at them every day, thinking about what a waste of money they were and wishing I could return them or, better yet, time travel back to 2011 to buy a second pair of good Frye's.
